Like the title says. What am I losing without the data plan?

Will IM still work? Is there a text based email? If I use a proxy can I reroute the gmail and other program links to function by editing their urls to the proxy url?

    Thanks!

I don't understand why people buy smartphones without a data plan. You lose all on-the-go functionality which is essentially the whole idea behind owning one.

Unless you have a personal wifi hotspot that you carry around with you, it's pretty pointless.

Because its a waste of money seeing as where ever you go nowadays wifi will most likely be there. b&n has free wifi mcd's has free wifi mall's with apple store. with aunties annes pretzels they all have wifi. In a few years from now data plans for mobile phones will be completely ******ed to have. Think about it man. when you are home you are more than likely surrounded by wifi.

As a matter of fact why do apps require internet when they could possibly work like emails and everyone be satisfied?

Well aside from being able to access internet 24/7 almost every apps requires internet for usage. IM will still work and use gmail for you do not need a data plan to receive emails and last question I do not know.

So is getting fat the trade off for free wifi?

jk. But I live in NYC, and there are plenty of places where I need a data plan & wifi is not available. But once Clear releases wimax here, I'll probably ditch the data plan and pay for a 4G mifi, which is the same $30/month.
