After reading the Hero Forum the last week or so I have decided to take
the plunge and get the phone.
This is really a question to UK users I guess, I am currently on 3 Mobile at the moment and have read that they will be getting the phone next month.
What network do you think is the best here for the phone, I have looked at Orange and it looks OK but I don't see why I should have to pay to get my voice mail.
I have been on T-Mobile in the past and they was alright, I am happy with 3 though I have to say.
What do you Guys recommend please especially as far as coverage is concerned and deals.
    Thanks in advance.
    Peace,
    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,
I had this dilemma of who to go for provider wise in uk. I had to look at the 3g coverage as this is the main point to owning a phone like this to me. This very quickly lead me to 2 choices, O2 or Vodafone. Both seemed to have their plus and minus points so i deployed some horrible logic to get my answer lol which was O2 have the (big sigh) iPhone and seem to be a bit ahead of Voda because of this with coverage. I hate the iPhone but i guess it had to have 1 benefit to society lol, so i use the O2 simplicity 30 day contract tarrif with the unlimited web bolt on as my option. I am in the south of England so i dont know what coverage is like where you are for networks but here only Voda and O2 have any kind of usable 3g. Dont know if this will help you at all as its always a nightmare trying to get the 'right' provider but it has worked for me :D
Good luck and i hope you like the Hero, its an awesome piece of kit !!

    Hi Duncs,
Thank you for your quick and helpful reply, you was talking about
usable 3g, 3 are the only 3g network are they not?
I have the Nokia N95 8 Gig that I am upgrading from, am I wrong then
    about their 3 G coverage?

    Peace,
    Andrew.

I've just switched from O2 to Orange as the o2 signal was rubbish in my house. Two things that really annoy me about Orrange

    1) You have to pay for MMS, it doesn't come out your free texts
    2) "Unlimited" data limited to 500mb

I dont know how Orange get away with charging for MMS when O2 dont

I Would personally stick to 3 , Think about it:

    1) If your already on contract and you upgrade you may be able to get a better deal than taking one out new

    2) You already know what 3 are like , signal in your home etc.

    3) The internet Fair usage policy's on other networks can be pretty shoddy. Take Vodafone & Orange for example. Both on a crap 500MB limit compared to 3.

    4) You know 3's internet speed and reliability

    5) Plus you get Spotify for free if your with network 3, it's usually

I've just bought the hero and i'm on 3. When i first put my sim in the phone, i got a text from 3 saying 'unable to send internet settings' so i put them in manually. mms works, facebook and twitter apps work, browser has trouble but is ok with wifi, but i just want face, twitter and IM and they all work.

If 3 are getting the phone anyhow i'll ring them for the proper settings in due course.

Stick with 3 they are the best!!!!!

    Hope this helps x

    Currently I'm with 3Mobile.

Tomorrow should arrive my new SIM FREE HTC Hero. I will keep 3Mobile as I'm using skype all the time to make phone calls abroad. The only problem that I think I will have until 2nd of November(3 will announce HTC Hero on that date, so they should have proper Skype and Settings for Android) is that skype would not work.

To be honest I don't really like 3Mobile because of their bad customer service but I cannot compare as it's only operator I used in UK.

I have had experience of the following networks in the UK.

T-Mobile. Crap reception. I've tried them in more than one house over the years (most recently when the G1 came out) and 3 times I've taken back under 14 day returns.

Orange. Generally good signal, but service has gone down the pan over the last few years. Also the data bundles are way behind other networks.

O2. I'm currently running an blackberry for work and an unlocked Hero on this network. Whilst not perfect the data bundles are better and support seems to be a little better than Orange.

I've never been with Vodafone or 3.

3 pride themselves on free unlimited msn, so when they announce htc i'll def be ringing for the proper settings coz meebo im and ebuddy just aren't msn. I had a Sony Ericsson and MSN ran in the background all day everyday and only popped up when i had a msg, did not waste the battery either!

    Roll on 2nd Nov!

There is a skype app on the market, i've not installed it coz i don't really use skype, but there are some good reviews on it. That should keep u going till u can get the proper settings.

I will most likely stick with 3 then but my worry is that as the Hero will
be a brand new phone to 3 I am wondering how much they may
ask me to stump up to get the phone especially as I am only working
Part time at the moment due to serious illness.
I have to be honest and say that I am Loathe to pay money that I cant afford for a phone even if new when the Network already will be handcuffing me for another 18 months, you know what I mean Guys?
One thing that I don't like with 3 is having to deal with India with
Problems and they don't give good deals either I have found.
Anyone got any advise about this please?
Roll on Nov 2nd (Hopefully). :)

    Peace,
    Andrew.

I like CEX too, although the queues are always huge and tend to be mostly made up of burglars!

Before they buy anything from anyone all electronics is going thru test. So if its stolen and it has been reported it will come up and cex crew is calling the police,if piece is not reported then nothing is coming up. So,if its there t,its good stuff. I'm dealing with them for last 3 years, quite often, and they never let me down ;)

Me neither - but I'm referring to the folks they turn away.

Bringing PS3's in in netto carrier bags, scruffy little hoodies with iPhones with no charger.....

Unfortunately in 3,if you don't use your allowance within a month, its lost.
And it applied to any kind of allowance.
