I'm about to delve into the Android and I'm deciding on what phone unit to purchase. But since it's almost year end I wonder if it's the right time to do so. Just heard that the NEXUS S is being released. Sounds like a great phone and just wondering if that would be worth all the trouble of getting someone in the US to head into Best Buy and purchase one for me.

Considerations for me:

• I live in GSM land
• Need it to do lots of email
• Occassionally browse news sites
• and, of course social networking

[*]I live in GSM land
need it to be able to e-mail (I've been using a BB)
occasionally browse news sites via browser, and of course,
• social networking.

The units being considered:
• HTC Desire HD
• HTC Wildfire
• Nexus S
• Xperia X10
• Galaxy S

Which one then? any other suggestiong/feedback? Oh yeah, and I prefer value over all the bells and whistles...Thanks!:)

Nexus S is the cream of the crop right now. You didn't mention you cared much about storage. It isn't expandable, but it is 16gb on board. Are you paying full retail for said device? If so I think the Nexus S gives you the best value currently (and you get to play with 2.3 before anyone else!)

Considering the Nexus S lacks a MicroSD memory card slot for expandable/removable memory and backup, I'd hardly call it "cream of the crop". This insulting omission of a basic feature I've had in my last several phones for years instantly removes it from the running for me, and most other people according to polls I've seen.
