Tell her to email it to you lol! I hope google decides to offer MMS... I'd gladly pay a one time fee for something like Google Voice Pro or somethin like that...

I have Google Voice but don't use it because the call quality is horrible. It sounds worse than my Magic Jack (which I expect to suck).

Been using GV on different devices since the Grandcentral days. I have not given my real number out in some time.

Use it for free calls (in and outbound).

I give my real number out to only a few people that I MMS with...

For a tip, I don't know if this will help anyone, but you can setup a personal voicemail greeting for every individual contact you have. I set those up for all my most called contacts.

Okay... I just found out something crucial regarding Google Voice.....

IF YOU ARE USING THE EVO AND DO NOT HAVE THE $99 EVERYTHING PLAN, YOU SHOULD NOT USE GOOGLE VOICE TO MAKE CALLS!!! When you make a call using Google Voice on your EVO, you are pulling from your 450 or 900 minute pool! I was under the impression that calls were free because they were VOiP... I was SUPER wrong... All Google Voice calls, even ones to other mobile numbers, are routed through landlines first which mean Sprint counts it as a land line call!

Now if you don't think you'll use up your 450 or 900 minutes in a month, by all means, use Google Voice, but if you are like me and hardly EVER call a landline, and call a bunch of mobile numbers, then stay away from using Google Voice to make calls...

SMS are sent over the data network so those are actually free but having a sprint plan you know its redundant because sprint gives you unlimited Texts already...

Sadly, I gotta put GV on the shelf until they make it true VOiP...

This is the big discussion for GV users on Sprint. Evidently, outgoing calls using google voice count as landline calls (i.e. not free), since it dials through your google voice number.

The big question is, when you receive a forwarded call through GV, does it count as a mobile if the call is originating from a mobile and as a landline if the call is originating from a landline?

You need to add Sprint to Home service for $5 a month and designate the GV # as your home #.
    This might work.

I use it exclusively for the transcribed voicemails, and the custom individual recording. Also because I am in the middle of getting ready to move to another state my GV number has a TN area code for job calls, while my phone is still and always will be my WI area code.

I use GV as my business # and it works great. All my employees have GV #s on their company EVOs and I have heard very little complaining. I definitely recommend using it!

I have it on my Samsung Captivate strictly (at this point) for the transcribed voicemail feature. What I really need to work now is a way to make voip calls on wifi while I'm at work. AT&T signals find it hard to reach me working beneath a library.

So if outgoing calls count towards your 450 minutes, does incoming count too? I never realized this, been using GV for a long time on my Droid. I just got my EVO last week and been using GV all this time. I assuming it was free, as in not using my 450 minutes.

Same here. I use it for voicemail exclusively because of the transcription option, which it does a pretty decent job on.

I have a bigger concern?? Say some one calls me using my GV #, it forwards to my cell phone, i heard sprint charges 20 cents per min for call forwarding, but immediate call forwarding is free. Anyone know the exact definition. This is what has prevented me from givin my GV # to my friends as of right now. I am worried bout charges. I obviously wouldnt make calls using my GV as i have unlimited mobile to mobile, And your GV # doesnt pop up on their caller ID only during SMS form what i have read.

Anyone shed any light on this?

With the EVO you can choose to have your GV number displayed on the other persons caller id when you call out. I don't know about the 20 cents a minute thing but I would say that if you don't have the $99 everything plan, I wouldn't use GV as EVERY call you make would come out of your minute allotment.

Yea I dont plan on using it to make calls. I was more concerned about the call forwarding. I would love to use my # when im at 49ers games and people that i meet up with ask for my # now and then. I got a sweet # that has the 49ers related. But if every call i get charges me 20 cents a min thats not gonna work well for me hehe.

Damn that sucks man. I was just about to sign up for this.

Connectz, how did you find out about it pulling from your minutes ?

I'm assuming the Everything Data Family Plan is a no go as well ?

As soon as I got the phone, I setup my Google Voice account on it and set it up so that ALL calls made from my phone went through Google Voice. About 4 days later, I was trying to add a shortcut on my screen so I can click it and get my minutes (I have the 450 everything plan). It said I used something like 170 minutes from my 450 minute pool.

So I went to GV support forums and learned that GV is NOT VOiP. All calls are routed through landlines first which Sprint counts against your minute pool. If you have the $99 everything plan then its not an issue.

what I did was get the 5 dollars call to home. I then called CS and told them I was told I could get the friends and family thing (whatever it is called where you get 3 or 5 numbers).

The very kind CS lady did it happily for me and for the 5 bucks I added any landline (including my GV number) I would potentially call.

A month later using that 5 dollar add on I used a total of 20 minutes of my 450 allotted minutes in my plan. :)

Well worth it to keep using my GV number

What is the advantage of using GV for calls anyway? I use it or VM but why would I need to make calls from it?
