    Hello,

I am sure there are many people like me who were on the verge on buying htc desire this year but the announcement of iPhone 4 has made them change their decision.

So I was wondering what you guys think and if you had a choice to buy a phone now which would it be and why?

I have never owned an android phone or an iPhone.

    Thanks

Desire, but then people on an Android forum would say that.

Depends what you want in a phone.

    General Pros of Android:

-Open source, Google dont develop Android for profit (not directly anyway)
-Open OS, you make Android fit your needs, not fit you needs to the limits of the (i)OS(4), shortcuts, nested folders, widgets, programs, what ever you need.
    -Real Multitasking
    -Constantly inovative hardware/software
    -HTC sense ui
-Android devices are cheaper than the iPhone and hardware/contract/accessories are included for better functionality

im sure others will add more

Well I want a phone which will last about 1 1/2 years or so.
    Multitasking is a must.
I am not sure as to how stable the android platform currently is and would it become more stable after 2.2 release for htc desire?
I've read that there are many flaws with htc desire like it randomly restarts, the call is ended when taking the phone out of the pocket etc.

It's really confusing for me to choose a phone especially after I bought samsung jet based on reviews.

I've had my desire for a few weeks now, and not once had an issue with anything you've said above. I don't see how you have the impression of android being unstable either...

    Easily confused???

Every single phone ever made has had some negative remarks made against it. Given mass manufacturing then within every batch of phones produced there will be some that have issues. The thing to remember is that for every 1 person who mentions a negative there are probably 10's or 100s or 1000s of people who don't have that problem. Also, people don't generally start threads like "I have no issues with my Desire". Forums are used to resolve issues a lot of the time so that's what you'll see.

An additional point is that if you read EVERY post (if you have time) then you may find that for some apparent phone problems that it's not a phone issue but an app issue or more often than not a user problem.

I have had my phone for over a month and not had a SINGLE FAULT or issue with it. It's stable, far more stable than my HTC Touch HD and Nokia N95 before it. Doesn't random restart, doesn't end calls for the hell of it and doesn't order Jihads while I sleep :)

You just got to ask yourself what you want in a phone and realise that the top phones being "sold" at the moment are the top ones for a reason.

As for longevity, EVERY phone will last 18months. They don't suddenly stop working after 15months because they're tired :)

Final point, the poll doesn't actually make sense when associated with the question/subject. Many reasons why to buy an Android phone but you're seemingly wanting people on an Android forum to say whether you should by an ANDROID phone or an iPhone! Which do you think they'll say? :)

    I'd get a Desire!

    - Removable components (Micro SD cards, battery) means that you can carry spares / purchase replacements easier than with the iPhone.
    - HTC Sense + Android is very easy to use, not much more difficult than the iPhone, but you have a lot more freedom to do what you like with the phone.
    - Android is evolving at a faster rate than iOS.

I owned a first gen iPhone and I can say that my Desire is better in nearly every way.

Edit: also, I have not had a random restart since the latest software update :)

Personally, I'm getting the Desire, but for most people, I'd say the iPhone would be the best choice...

Glad you saw the fun side :)

Well I've only downloaded about 10 games in total as I just look for fun little pick up put down type games. Been some good and fun little ones for free and I am sure there are more out there. Remember apps will really start to excellent within the Market now that Android phones are becoming more and more popular with people. The Apps store didn't happen overnight!!! :)

games is one thing android doesnt really do that well, however the practical benifits of android and the desire far out weigh a few frankly meh iphone games.

tbh if games is a deciding factor your not really looking at android for the right reasons.

Do you think android market would become as good as app store by the end of this year?
One feature I really miss on my samsung jet is YouTube.
So how good is the YouTube playback, quality and can you use advance search options?

youtube has been fine for me, not had any issues. V nice playback not sure about advanced

I would say a tentative yes but the tech market is a hard thing to predict. I currently havent searched the market and thought ''damn!! that xxx (as in random app not hard core s3xing app lol) app i want is on the apple app store''

    Haha okay
I'm going to wait till 2.2 upgrade for desire, then read some more reviews and then make a final decision.
How's the loudspeaker, I'm guessing it can't be worse than samsung jet

    Okay
well I think the video playback, quality is pretty good on an iPod touch.
Is it the same, better, or worse on HTC Desire?

Having had an iPhone 3GS I can honestly say that I don't miss it since getting my Desire. There ARE some things that iPhone does better but they're outnumbered by Desire's pro's.

I have to admit that the HD video at 30fps is a tempting addition but the videos and photos I've shot on my Desire look good enough for me.

And apparently there is a hack out that makes the Nexus One record at 720p. it's currently a hack but it shows the physical hardware/camera is there. And I'm guessing if it's in the Nexus One it will be in the Desire. (Hopefully :p)
