Help Why does a Google Voice number become "grandcentral" on my phone?

This is bizarre. When I enter a phone number for one of my Google Contacts and then choose "Google Voice" as the label (which is already a pre-defined label in the dropdown box) and then sync with my phone, the phone number in the People app shows "Call grandcentral".

What in the world is that??

Grandcentral was actually a phone number consolidation company that Google purchased in 2007. It operated independently under Grandcentral for a while before being renamed GoogleVoice.

Yeah the transformation of grand central into google voice is quite interesting. The founder of grand central and the google venture capitalist who funded him came and spoke to my class last night at school. Funny guys. Very entertaining.

Thanks for the information everyone. This was bothering me. Doesn't make sense that Gmail would just automatically change it from Google Voice to GrandCentral though.

I couldn't understand why it kept switching on me. Now I know (and knowing is half the battle!)
