A repository for older versions of apps?

It's a real bummer when an update screws up an app and you can't go back after a certain window.

I believe that apkmirror.com may also help.

I used to have a great one, sadly it must have shut down because I can no longer find it.

Edit: Oops nevermind. Here it is:

That's for computers. I always keep the old download of any program. I do know Oldversion. I also have all my old installation disks. Even the ones on floppy.

Sadly, I don't think apkmirror would have what I want.

I liked the old version of Weatherbug before they went social. Weather Underground is also heading in that direction.

The same with Audubon Birds. It's now free for your email (so they can pester you)
I'd bought Birds when it was 9.99. I'm feeling resentful that I can't go back to what I paid for. Their descriptions will say new birds added to families, etc. and nothing about the social BS. I gave them a spam addy that I just delete.

Green Mountain Digital put the guides out originally, then Audubon took over and GMD went to hell. They also do Keurig coffee and you might remember the stink when Keurig wanted DRM protected coffee containers for the machines. They backed down.

Why does every mfg think that anyone who has a cell phone wants it to be social all over the place? Most just use one app anyway. FB or Instagram. So now everyone wants those two integrated into their apps.

I can block on the PC. You don't get bothered on Linux. NoScript is fantastic.

If you pay $800 for a phone, and you are paying full carrier bills, and only have pay for apps, why does that give any company license to try to sell? It's not like you have a lot of freebies which should market to you,

  6. Yeah, that seriously annoyed me. A lot. I even rated the app just to comment (which I never do) and they were so rude! I was supposed to be happy I was getting a great "free" app. They missed the whole 'I paid for it and now it sucks' part. Their emails go straight to trash, such a shame they wrecked it.

On the right side the last tab is Android.

You're right though, paid apps like audubon are difficult to find. Unless you look for pirated versions. Even if you've already paid.

    Demographics.

Pooh to demographics. I don't fit mine. I did work for an agency that dealt with demographics. The buyer said I'm every advertisers' worst nightmare. There's ways around.

Some use it for business only. Convenience.

They are rude and crass. My MIL was a member. She died, they saw the funeral notice and promptly asked for a planned donation.

The problem is we are small in number. It is much more profitable to cater to the masses, than the few.

  11. That makes me want to delete the app and badmouth them all over town. Like it would make a difference.

    What jerks though.

Use it, and mark any correspondence coming from them as spam. Delete.

They do spam. At least 5 per day in my spam account. The only permission I gave them was storage.

The other problem with social - PERMISSIONS.

As soon as an app gets into being social, they want camera, contacts, phone, location.
Sibley Birds wants all of it, in their case I think they are checking for copyright violations. That still doesn't feel right. Accuweather went social, and now wants camera and a few other things. At least Accuweather will work if you say no.

In the case of Sibley - I OK when I want to use it, then promptly deny when I close the app.

Some apps do explain why they need info. You can read and make up your own mind.

Isn't there a way to get the apk from the phone and store it?

If you are rooted it is easy to get the apk.

Otherwise I guess you could try a Helium backup - the apk should be in there somewhere. I think there are other non-root apps that can do this but can't think of names at the moment.

I snoop, so I'll try to see if it's in there. Tried Helium again. I'd bought it when I had a Nexus 4 and it wouldn't open when I tried to put the stuff on an Oppo.

    Thanks
