Why not more excitement over 5 home screens for stock users?

I know this is becoming quite a root-centric forum, but for us non-rooters, I think getting 5 home screens will be the biggest upgrade in 2.1. It hasn't been confirmed though so as soon as someone finds out, LET US KNOW!

If we get all the multi-touch + 2.1 Gallery + 5 home screens I will be a very happy camper.

and I guess it would be nice to know if the keyboard is updated for multi-touch as well, but we just won't know for sure until the first people start getting the update.

I think it really is that having more screens will pull more from the Cpu and running at the stock 550 might not be enough . I had some lag with just 3 screens . Im thinking there was a reason they stopped at 3 screens ....but i just rooted yesterday so im good . :D

For me the screen numbers don't really matter because i am the kind of person who hates a cluttered desktop on my computer and the same goes for my phone. I have the bare essentials on my screens and a have a hard time as it is using up the 3 stock screens they give us let alone the 5 that BB 7.4 gives me. I hate the thought of putting widgets all over the place too because i dont want anything killing my battery more than it needs to be as i feel like the constant updating would do. If i need an application its just one swipe away in my apps drawer and that way nothing stays running when i dont want it to.

Honestly, I hope there is much more than this. I am more hopeful of the things that may not be readily visible, ie under the hood stuff. I have had a few strange glitches that I hope are taken care of related to the battery among other things.

In addition improved battery life, improved performance and stability are what I am hoping for.

That being said, I am very excited to see 2.1 rolled out.

These are the exact things that I really hope are in there. Everything else will just be the bonus plan.

Can't find enough things to fill them with. I have everything I want on 3 screens.

I had good results from using Home++ before I rooted. That gave me 5 screens that actually looped - unlike the 5 screens in the rooted roms.

Using Home++ I started with 7, then went to 5, and now am back to 3. Out of those 3, I barely even use 1 of them.

I think most people who have wanted more than 3 screens have already acquired them with rooting or home replacements so it's not that big of a deal. I use Pandahome with 5 screens now, and I think I could have up to 11!

I want a glitch free smooth experience with no lag. I am presently stock and I have a little lag between screen and icons. If the new update irons this out I would be happier. As of right now nobody knows exactly what the update will include or exclude there really is no reason to get excited or disappointed right now. I can do without the live wallpapers and other gimmicks for an improved user interface and smoother screen transitions which I know is very possible. I downloaded "3" media player from rock on and that is extremely smooth and quick and it is still in testing stage.

I don't know if maybe i'm just weird but I only use one screen?

    Well two, kind of.

On my main screen I have Beautiful Widgets Smaller home, the "new" stock news widget, and then i have four icons along the bottom; phone handcent browser and the brightness level widget.

On the second screen I just have the power widget. I use home++ so I guess the bottom bar adds a little extra functionality, but even before I used that I always thought it was so easy to just pull open the app drawer I never put many things on my home screen...

What kind of things do you guys put on your home screens?

Depends...Every home alternative I have used has had FC issues. I just installed Bugless Beast and now have 5 and I love it. For people who don't root, this will be a HUGE addition for some.

Eh I use the Pandahome91 and can use up to 7 screens with no FC. I really only use 4 though.

I am not rooted and downloaded ultimate favorites. It holds two carasual with each holding 16 apps. I do not care about extra two windows.
I already downloaded the gallery which is really cool. Nav has pinch and so does two of my browsers. I looking for stability and better battery life.

My five screens aren't filled up but I use my five screens for categorizing my shortcuts and widgets. LIke I have one for Google based apps, System apps, Media, and Games...oh and of course the home screen.

I'm still not sure why more people haven't rooted yet. My phone is now faster (overclocked), has the five home screens, 2.1 gallery, pinch zoom, multi touch browser, wifi tether, and so on. It's not like you guys can't go back to factory settings.

I am waiting to see what happens to the rooted people after the update. If like last update, I will be 4-5 days behind the rroll out. I will have time to root then if no bad effects appear. I am also wondering if it will unroot you.slipping an unroot program does not sound impossible.

    Whoa....

I know what you're saying but I'm betting there are alot of people that you just can't make this simple enough for. I am a 'techie' and being new to android...things didn't always work the way I expected them to. All I'm saying is that some people are probably lucky to turn the droid on and check their gmail. For example...Setting up pop email is simple business but do a search and see how many people are having issues setting up yahoo or aol... :)
