Why return within 30 days when you have all year?

So everyone is talking about taking back the Evo within the first 30 days to swap it out for a new handset without grounding issues, leaking light, 002 vs 003, etc, etc.

Am I missing something here but we have all year to bring it back to Sprint to ensure we get a later build. I mean surely in March 2011 or something, we'll all get dust under the glass or something else minor where we can then bring in the launch Evo and pretty much guarantee a much later build that has all the kinks worked out.

Now I know the downside is getting a refurb but most refurbs I've ever gotten were like new. It's not like they give you a dented and scratched handset.

So what am I missing by swapping it within the first 30 days?

If you still don't like the phone you can get out of your contract and wait or buy a different phone. Also after 30 days even if you have insurance or its a manufactures issue you'll more than likely get a refurb phone.

You answered your own question. You just don't understand it cause you are not some anal $*&#%& like so many folks unfortunately are here.

I am with you. My phone will be replaced whenever or IF I ever have a problem. I couldn't care less about *30 days*.

That was actually one of my questions.

What happens after 30 days? I mean, mine might never have problem, good to know. But if it does, what are my options?

Will Sprint exchange one with no extra charge? (after 30 days)?

If it is a manufacturing defect, Sprint will replace for no charge for a year. Or as long as you have insurance after a year. Again, no charge if manufacturer defect. Ever.

Yes, as long as it is within 1 year, for manufacturer defects, Sprint will swap it out. Granted I DO have light leakage under the home and search but it's not that bad. I can see it in pitch darkness but if I'm in the pitch darkness, I should be sleeping, not playing with my phone.

Now if you're not careless, like I said, by month 6 or anytime before month 12, you can bring it back and say you have leakage or the screen is raised, or just say you have dust and you'll get a refurb that is just "like new." At that point, we should be glad to have a refurb since it will be dust free, a later manufacturing date, as well as a non scratched up Evo.

BTW, as mentioned, I do have slight leakage on an 003 with a Novatec screen that is very slightly raised . No big deal for me.

To be honest, it depends on HTC. In 30 days you have no hassel return/exchange. After that, it could get tricky.

For example. HTC is referring to the screen separation has a minor cosmetic problem. Which means after 30 days, you will not be able to to return the phone under htc warranty. Sprint insurance "should" cover the device though.

So if you think htc will cover the screen separation as a manufactures defect, then keep the phone, if you think they are going to be evil and call it cosmetic then return it before 30 days.

It is 50/50 shot. But you have to choose.
    To be honest.

You will get an exchange but it will be a used handset not new. Only within the first 30 days can you get brand new equipment.

Well, I will not exchange just to get a new one within the first 30 days.

If something happens to it, hopefully not, after 30 days, then whatever they give me will be newer and functional than the one I returned, that's for sure.

Unless you lose it or it gets stolen, then it is 500 bucks plus how many months payments you gave to best buy, baby.

Well its good to be me Baby...cause I got both ,Sprint and Best Buy...$17 a month for pure piece of mind. Kinda like those people that would rather sit in traffic to take a bridge, instead of paying to take the Tunnel to get into the city...a few bucks can go a long way..Guy!

I will be returning my launch day 002 today mainly because the power button has sunk so low it's almost flush with the top of the case...how far is it going to go? Is it just going to go down into the case and I won't be able to even power it up? There should have been a separate, dedicated button just for waking it up.
Evo is a fantastic phone...and I knew going in that it was a first run device so I'm not disillusioned at all...

What is wrong with a refurbed phone? When I had my Palm Pre I had to exchange it 3 times for some pretty major issues and the third phone I got was a refurbed and it was the most solid one I had received and it lasted me 9 months until I got my Evo.

You're an insurance agents dream! Paying over $200/year to insure a $450 phone.

Generally speaking, all you folks out there with Best Buy "insurance" don't be so secure. They are well known for screwing the customer when it comes time to use it. Read the fine print carefully. They can tie up your phone for weeks before giving you the "new one in the box."

Don't they only swap out to a brand new handset within 30 days, and then if it's after 30 days you have to deal with HTC directly?

Some people have a relationship with their cellphone as close as the one is with their mothers. Would you accept a refurbished mother?

You don't deal with HTC, you deal with Sprint.

Pretty much the only people who complain about refurbished items don't understand what the word means. A refurbished item will in every way look and work just as well as a brand new item.

Ummm no, it's because its not "NEW".

And let's not forget even if you take back under the 30 days you still have a 1 year warranty, but now you have a phone that will only be 11 months old at the end of that year.

I know about No Lock...I've had it installed for about a week now and yes it works great.

But how long before the button goes so far in it doesnt come out? And the phone wont turn on? I'm really not wanting to take this back...absolutely no screen issues at all, minor software issues (no notification bar at the top no matter what I do and Ive done everything out there) Not a scratch on it...I really hate having to take it back. I even posted around looking for the button part to put in myself.

As Ive said elsewhere, this is a great phone and I want another one..and I knew that first run devices can be like this...not bitter or disillusioned one bit.

All it needs is a F*****G power button hahahah..aint that the shit...just one REAL thing wrong...the thing that makes it go :)

OK let me put this out there....if anyone knows the power button part number, where to get it..please let me know...I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any help on this...I'll hold off exchanging for a few days, but I'm getting low on days here.

All I can say is this. I am not one to worry about what "might" happen. I would use phone until day power button actually stopped working. Not one day before.

so you're really not going to take the phone back for not having a dedicated power button? I'm assuming you're joking, right?!
