Help Wi-fi connected in airplane mode

I finally got an update for my HTC One X Asia edition yesterday. Nothing that I notice except cosmetic changes on the box. I don't know whats inside the box

Today, I noticed that when I switched off wi-fi through settings, it would still turn it on all by itself. I put the phone in airplane mode, still it would connect to wi-fi, check my emails, messages etc.

Anyone knows what is going on here? I did not reset to factory settings yet but I think I may have to do that. Before I do that I wonder if anyone has a solution.
