I was listening to internet radio on my Legend today and a question struck me that always pops up when I use the internet on my phone and start worrying about using my precious 500mb of internet use that I pay Vodaphone for .......does the Legend automatically know that I am connected to a wi-fi network and direct all internet usage through that connection or am I making a mistake by thinking it does this when I am in fact using up my non-wi-fi allowence ?

This probably sounds like a stupid question, but I've never had a phone capable of connecting with the internet or that could use wi-fi and I've never had it explained to me just how the system works.

I believe that once you connect to a wi-fi point, android will give the wi-fi connection a higher priority than the mobile data connection. Therefore, it will use wi-fi. (I think there is also a setting in the Wireless & networks window but I can't seem to find it now.. maybe it only shows when I'm actually connected to wi-fi.)

You can test this by installing a data monitoring app such as NetCounter and setting it up to monitor wi-fi and mobile data usage. Then, listen to the radio and see which one increases. There are also a few other apps in the marketplace that might be useful that "scream" at you if you reach a specified amount of mobile data usage, 500mb for example. You might consider these apps.

Finally, http://androidforums.com/support-tr...e/101576-silly-wifi-question-please-help.html doesn't relate to the Legend specifically, but I believe the concepts still apply to your general query.

That's basically what I thought happened, but I've never been sure. Cheers, mate.
