    Hello everyone,

I just picked up the Droid X yesterday and so far love the phone. I had the Incredible a few months ago but had to return it due to some camera hardware issues.
Anyways, my phone came with Android 2.1....I upgraded to 2.2 after charging my phone. I'm just throwing this out there as I have no idea if that's what's causing my 2 problems.

    1) Whenever I turn off Wi Fi, within 1 hr my phone will keep telling me it detects wi fi networks, i'll go back in control panel and sure enough wi fi has some how turned itself back on. This keeps happening and I'm wondering if anyone knows about this issue and how to fix it?
2)My battery usage icon, when I click on the battery to get a breakdown of what's using power it 'force closes' every time. :(

    Hope someone can help, thanks.

    1) under settings>wireless & network settings>wi-fi settings, make sure the network notification is turned off. (Hopefully that will fix your constant notification issue)
    2) the battery usage "force close" is a common issue on froyo for the x.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the problem still persists. WiFi is not just notifying me, it's turning itself on. I'll put my phone in airplane mode when I sleep and then I can wake up in the morning and WiFi will be on...this is really annoying. I'd rather have a deal breaking bug so I can exchange the phone, to have this little nuisance means I'll just end up living with it. :(

-Did a quick search on Google, seems like other ppl are having this issue as well. Majority of them are attributing it to the 2.2 update...wondering if I should have kept my phone 2.1 longer instead of updating right away. Anyways, this Wifi is putting an unnecessary drain on my battery, if this persists what are my options? If I exchange the phone I have to reinstall all of my stuff which is TEDIOUS having had to do it from Incredible over to the X, and the new exchanged phone may *still* have this problem. :-/

    Okay, so a few things:

    - I leave WiFi on all the time. It does not drain the battery as much as you'd think. Are you turning it off because you think you have a substantial battery drain, or because you actually see its effects?

    - Are you rooted? If so, there's a really simple build.prop modification that will turn down the frequency at which WiFi scans for access points. That will reduce the battery consumption of leaving WiFi on.

    - I would tend to suspect that there is an application turning on WiFi rather than the OS doing it, but of course I can't be sure about that. Do you have any WiFi scanning applications installed?

    - If I were to factory wipe my phone right now, it'd take me probably 30 minutes to load everything back on. My Gmail, contacts, notes, calendar, etc. are all stored in the cloud so they all load automatically. Apps install quickly though Appbrain.com. Many applications have a "save settings" feature, or you can use something like Titanium Backup. When you say it's "tedious" - do you mean you just don't want to have to do that stuff, or are you manually installing your apps one-by-one?

(incidentally, it'd be really nice if we had an Apple-esque backup and recovery function that saved everything on the phone and could dump it back on in one shot)

Any chance you have Y5 battery saver installed? That automatically turns on wifi when you are in an area with a remembered network. Long shot, I know.

Very weird...2 days into my Droid X and all of a sudden the Wi Fi hasn't been turning itself on any longer and the battery manager works now. I can actually tap on it and get a break down of what's using the battery. As of right now everything is functional...got my Steinheil Crystal screen and I'm all set. Thanks everyone.

Okay Wi Fi started to turn itself on again but I found the culprit! It's Epocrates Drug Guide, a known bug which they plan on fixing by 10/14/10. Just wanted to post this so ppl with similar problems can see that most of the time it's an application that is turning on your Wi Fi.
