    I connected to wi-fi but how do you check that your phone uses wi-fi to connect to internet and not 3G

    One thing you can do is turn off:

    Settings->Wireless controls->Mobile network

    Yup I've done that. I just had a quick look at page 2 and downloaded some app called APN droid. I don't know whether that is working tho lol
    Also, how do I add its widget to the front?

    Easy, push the Menu button, add, widgets. APNdroid works for me, when 3G data is active I can see an "H" icon to the top status bar right to the left of the singal bar. Whens it's off the icon disappears.

    When you see this icon in the notification bar [IMG] then you know that the phone is connected to a WiFi network, if you don't see that icon and you have enabled WiFi, go to Menu>Settings>Wireless Controls> WiFi Settings then select your WiFi network. If you don't want to use the cellular network ever, then go to Menu>Settings>Wireless Controls>Mobile Network to make sure that checkbox is unticked.

    Ok thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it. I now managed to add the widget and there is some icon that says off. I also see the wi-fi icon too. Its it now safe to have that mobile network set to on or should I leave it as off?

    Set it on, you will control it via the widget now. Another useful app is "3G Watchdog", it counts your data traffic through 3G so you always know how much you spent out of your quota.

    When it's off the widget has red color. Green when it's on.

    Awesome. So basically when the icon is red the phone cannot access the internet unless it has connected to a wi-fi connection? Thanks for clearing this all up for me :)
