Sooo hi guys, I'm new to the forums because I just bought a Droid 2 (Milestone 2 as known here in Brazil). It came with Android 2.2.

I have a Mac Mini, and it has an Airport Extreme card built in. Now I never had a notebook or need to use WiFi, so I'm a noob in this area.

I try to create a new network, the Droid 2 will recognize it but just won't connect, and the Airport connection in Network preferences just shows that Airport has a 'self assigned IP address and won't connect to the internet' (and yes I'm connected to the net wtith my mac via Ethernet - cable modem).

Could anyone explain to me or refer me to a guide on how do I use my Mac Mini so that my phone uses its Wifi instead of using the expensive 3G connection when I'm at home?

Thanks a lot and sorry for the newbish Q.

You've got that backwards. Your computer does not create a wifi signal, your phone does. I'm afraid you can't do what you're asking. Your phone uses your 3G connection to get/send data, and then creates a wifi access point that your computer can connect to. That means your computer can have internet anywhere your phone has 3G signal. But you can't use the wifi card on your computer to provide internet to your phone.

Thank you very much for the answer. But I actually figured that out (google search yay).

I was trying to do that via the Airport preference pane, but actually I just had to go to the Internet Sharing preference pane (which uses airport as well) and turn it on for devices that use Airport (in my noobish understanding that's how Apple calls Wifi, I never had a notebook because I have plenty of computers at work and my previous phone had no Wifi or 3G).

I turned internet sharing on, assigned a password and now my mac mini is a hotspot and I'm using my droid 2 via my mac's WiFi :)
