Will Canada be shafted in any way when getting Froyo? I'm hoping we get it day and date with Americans. Anyone know anything?

Nexus One is sell through Google checkout and is not subsidized by Rogers so you get the update OTA from Google. Will Canada get the release at the same time ?! I say yes unless there is some big issue with CRTC.

I got mine here in Montreal this morning. I have my Rogers sim card that was in my Magic and I didn't give Rogers the Nexus IMSI so. I did however do the *#*#checkin#*#* thingie through the dialer phone pad and it returned a little while later with a positive answer in the notification bar but still nothing. I even connected by wifi for a while but still nothing.

then it just appeared this morning on 3g.

It's a force check to see if there are updates available.

"Another hidden function can be accessed by dialing *#*#checkin#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*) which will "check in" to Google's servers. This will force your Nexus One to search for patches and updates immediately."

You can always just download the update directly from Google's website and do a manual install if you don't want to wait for the OTA update. That way you can have it the moment it is released.

I did the checkin thing last night and about 20 minutes later it said 2.2 was available. i don't know if it was a conincidence though because my friend said he got the update when he never checked.

Coincidence most likely :p I just manually upgraded mine to FRF85 and when FRF91 came out, I got the OTA.

And there's a very good reason to un-bundle your phone from the provider. Even us old timey Magic users without a locked phone can run 2.2, that is 3 major versions ahead of the so called official R version. :)

Hi. Do you think that if I unlocked my Magic and went with Telus that I would still get the 2.1 update from Rogers?

I wouldn't think so. And why would you want it anyway? That's the whole point of un-bundling the phone, to have more choice of firmware as well as service providers.

Hi. I do want to unlock it but I don't want to root it. Perhaps they will leave the update on their website.
