Will The Sprint Epic 4G Get Ice Cream Sandwich?

I have the Epic 4G with the slide out keyboard from Sprint. I've just opened my Sprint account and can still swap the Epic (already swapped from the EVO) but I don't really see anything I'm in love with.

What I do love about this phone is the screen, its amazing and much better than that of the EVO. I would be sure to stick with it though, if I knew I would get ICS.

    Any info?

  2. Doubtful. The phone is over a year old I believe and it hasn't even been updated to GB as far as I know. My friend has one thats still running Froyo. If you think thats a nice screen and aren't attached to the keyboard, go get the Epic Touch 4G. That will for sure get ICS

Officially, doubtful.. But as long as the Epic continues to receive devloper love, we should see ICS in a custom ROM...

As far as GB goes, I'm guessing end of next month...

at least over to the 4g Touch like the other person suggested. Bigger, faster and already on GB. With the exception of the keyboard there is no reason not to change. Got mine in Aug this year but wish I would have waited a couple weeks.

I'll be surprised if we even get Gingerbread at this point.

Doesn't look good. From the ruined going around it doesn't look like the Galaxy SII will be getting it for a really long time. We can't even get Gingerbread yet because they can't seem to fix all the bugs. Not sure why but last I checked they even pulled the source code from the site. Personally I think they should let all the great programmers we have at places like here, let them work on it and fix it to at least be as stable as some of the rooted solutions and then compensate them for doing what the developers could not do.

I'm no programmer but I don't understand why they can't make some of the changes the people here have and other rooting sites have made and at least get us a workable update.

It drives me nuts that I have not able to root my phone because I only have Mac computers. I was very hopeful and excited when I saw qbking77's videos on rooting without a computer but for some reason it would not root my phone even though I followed the video step by step. Same phone, same files and procedure. I feel like Samsung and Sprint are just put to make me miserable.

I really hope there is a Mac person out there that will create a section on helping other Mac users who want to root their phones but are having trouble. Or even better any programmer able to perfect the "rooting without a computer. I think that's a fantastic way to do it since even using a PC is sometimes a pain. Wishful thinking I guess.

I just want to make it clear that I still appreciate all the hard work qbking77 and everyone else involved in helping us root our phones. They do what Sprint and Samsung can't seem to do, create miracles and help make out phones better.

Considering Samsungs sad update record with cdma android phones in general, I don't think one can make this statement. Even if it eventually did get ICS, it will be long after most care...like with the Epic getting GB.

You can always try copy and paste. I think you have to be at a certain level here to actually add a real link. Sorry, I'm not at that level obviously.

Swap it for the Nexus S if you want official ICS. The Epic 4G will most likely get ICS from development environment. I wouldn't hold my breath for official ICS, even if Samsung or Sprint says yes, which I doubt.

Not that I hate my Epic 4G, I don't and I expect to hang on to it for a while yet, until Sprint gets the next Nexus device.

I the sprnt epic 4g. With the gingerbread latest update. With that being said. The nexus s. And the epic 4g is pretty much the same phone other than the nexus not haveing a memory card slot and obviously a physical keyboard. So hopefully the epic 4g does get ICS. Cause if the nexus will be getting ics. The epi should as we'll . Considering they are both samsung products. And the nexus is pretty much a galaxy s product

Personally, from reading all the press and rumors (well, not all), I don't think so. Unless you mean soon as in mid-2012. With Sprint in the midst of bringing up LTE, I doubt very much that they would bring on anymore high-end devices until closer to mid-2012.

But don't let me stop you from your happiness. Do what's best for you with the facts. Fact is, Galaxy Nexus S 4G will get official ICS.

ICS dev kit has been out for a few days now. Has anyone made a port yet? Im running strong on offical GB with a few tweeks. I love the speed enhancements. So much faster over froyo. I might stick with this longer with the speed boost GB offers. I was looking into the epic 2 with the bigger screen but i really like the keyboard. I dont want to half a$$ it with the ics dialer, just give me the full ics lol.

Sure you can copy and paste. Press and hold on the text and you can select the text, it copies to the clipboard and you paste it in your browser. Doesn't matter now. It's old news and Gingerbread has been sent to us and I'm very happy with the difference in my phone. Like I got a new one!

i agree - i'm very happy with my EPIC and won't be trading in anytime soon *I've had mine since the beginning of November last year* - i hope they keep upgrading us, but seriously, this is the best phone i've ever had. My co-workers and even family would always joke about me buying new phones constantly - everyone is shocked that I've had this one over a year, LOL! Even the IT guys that come to my work to fix stuff have EPIC's if that tells you anything.

I just don't see ICS coming to the Epic 4G. At the rate that updates come even if it did my two years would have passed and it would be time to upgrade my phone. Personally I wouldn't purchase any phone from this day forward that doesn't already have ICS installed. This way you won't have to worry about if you will be supported with the ICS update.

I do agree with others that since the GB update I have a much better working phone. It is a great phone when its working but Froyo made my phone unusable and I almost left Sprint because of the problems I was having so the timing was perfect but not giving credit to Sprint or Samsung. Little by little Sprint is pushing their customers away. The sad part is there are no real good options on service providers. No matter who you go to, one way or another they will rob you, its just a matter of what you are willing to accept. AT&T are rated number one in data speed, Verizon are number one in cell reception and Sprint falls into last place for both. The only thing Sprint currently has over the others is the unlimited data plan, smartphone only. When they take that away, and they will, they will not have any advantage over anyone else. When Sprint totally drops the ball and gives me no reason to stay with them my only choice is Verizon even though I don't care much for them either there is no way I will ever go to AT&T. The future doesn't look so good so I'm hoping there will be another company that rises from the ground and shows the big three how business should be done. Until then, I'm stuck with Sprint and their lack of customer support.

They'll update the Epic 4G to ICS when There IS LTE. SO they can intergrate LTE Technology into the ICS update.

Do you think that they will somehow reprogram the WiMax radio in the Epic to use LTE instead?
