Start with rooting. Then you can do wireless tether so your Xbox can get online off of your phones internet

Dang! I used the leak so I couldn't root and possibly mess up my phone. Wish I didn't know my self so well. Oh well I got faith in the devs working on rooting the leaks. When that happens I will no longer have the security measures I set for myself. More than likely I will root then brick my phone 24 hrs after root is found. Boy I can't wait lol!!!

Trust me... It is VERY hard to brick these phones. I have gone through many roms, been stuck in many endless boots.... and yet here i am still using my eris. And this is my first smartphone and 2 months ago i had no idea that cell phones could be modified:eek:

not really sure what you want? do you just want to wirlessly share files with your xbox or use it as a connection to the internet.

i thought that there was a root rom that could run a wireless hotspot but not sure how to connect the xbox. for file sharing the xbox to pc connection requires a code generated by the xbox that you input into the pc. not sure you can do this with a smartphone or that teh xbox will recognize the phone. have you searched the xbox forums?

Needed to add that with the pc in order to share files it must have windows media center on it. either windows 7 home or above or windows xp media center edition. files are shared through media center. so you would most likely need windows media center on the phone too. like a winmo phone.

this forum link talks about wirelessly tethering an xbox 360 to a droid using root.

Yeah, I have wireless at my house. I want to use my phone as a way for my Xbox to get on live I don't know if this is the same thing as tether because I'm just learning all this new lingo.

    ok.
Now my only question is if you already have wireless, why do you want to use your phone?
I'm sure that your home internet is faster than what you will get out of your eris.
With that being said, you definately need to root your eris if you want to do this. Look into this if you want to do this:

    http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html

After that, it's as simple as installing an app called Wireless Tether or aNetshare, and you are set.
You're eris will turn into a hot spot and your Xbox or other computers can get online.

i know winmo phones can connect to xbox live but not sure you can with an android. while you would have to tether to get the internet connection using xbox live services is another thing all together.

Okay to clear up some confusion, there is and adapter that you can buy for 99 dollars that will allow your xbox to connect to wireless internet. I have a wireless modem but i do not have the reciever for my xbox. I would like to use my phone for this and not have to buy the 99 dollar reciever. So to do this I need to root and tether? Or were you guys thinking of something different. Also there are some apps that let you connect to your account and I have these. I use spark and xbox avatar widget. P.S. Thanks for all the help and putting up with my ignorance.

i'm not sure if you could tether the phone into the xbox with a micro usb to usb cord like you would with a laptop. i use easy tether for my laptop and it requires a program to be running on the pc so that, and pdanet too, wouldn't work for the xbox. i think there is a usb port in the back of the xbox 360 near the lan port i just don't know how you would configure the phone to act as a router. you probably would need root to do that.

the phone would act as both the modem and router and I think this is the only way it will work.

OK. I had it all wrong. I thought your Xbox was ready to connect to the internet... and all you needed was the internet. Which is what wifi tethering would give you.
If you're saying this adapter costs 99 bucks... I'm assuming it's somethign specific for the xbox... so you probably dont have a choice and have to buy that. But i'm not even sure.
    Sorry for the bad info

Lol ok, and it dose'nt have to be an xbox reciever my g/f's brother has an off brand one that he got for 60 dollars that's cheap but it would be free if I could use my phone. Maybe ill try to make this app some how and charge one dollar and steal all the business from microsoft and other reciever companies lol.

What if someone could make an app that would allow the phone to trick the xbox into thinking that an android phone was that spendy 99 dollar wifi adapter? I think we're looking for a USB tether for Xbox, which would function as a COMPATIBLE wifi dongle.

Its more than likely next to impossible. There aren't even 3rd party wireless adapters that connect via USB to the Xbox. Microsoft apparently won't let anyone else make an adapter. But since the USB wifi dongle is proprietary, I don't think anyone but the engineers at Microsoft know how it interfaces with the Xbox so it would be impossible to write a driver for a phone to emulate it.

So your phone isn't the problem, its Microsoft trying to keep everything hush-hush.

However if you have a laptop, you can always tether your Xbox to it and share its Wifi connection.

Isn't it possible to get the Xbox wifi dongle to work on a linux machine? I remember reading about that somewhere. Just can't remember where at the moment...And I'm not sure if it helps any, but the Xbox 360 has been able to run linux before. I'm not an expert with drivers or anything, but if you have access to the Xbox through linux, wouldn't you be able to look at the driver that the Xbox uses with the wifi dongle and maybe work from there as a start? I mean, wifi is a feature that should have been included with the 360 IMO, and it sucks that Microsoft charges an extra hundred dollars just to have it. Especially when you compare that price to one you can get for your pc, which will be compatible with any pc you plug it into.

I tried finding what you were talking about on Google but turned up nothing. I either got people saying outright that it doesn't work on a PC due to lack of drivers, or wireless ethernet bridges which would work with the Xbox.
