It's unfortunate, really because it's the closest store to where I'm going to college. Oh well, it will have to be Wal-Mart.

I went in today to ask if the guy has any idea when they will be getting some Xs in stock. Before I could even finish my question, the guy bursts out laughing, boisterously in my face.

Man, that pissed me off (I hope I'm allowed to say that on here; if not, so be it - moderate me). He went on to tell someone who was buying two Droid 2's that the Droid X is not something that can be carried around in your pocket. Unfortunately I exercised some restraint and didn't tell him that the reason he can't carry it in his pocket is because the cellulite in his legs probably occupies all of the extra space in the legs of his pants.

My pant pockets ARE my carrying case. Verizon sales reps are generally less than informed.

Wait.. these things aren't collecting dust on shelves yet?

Don't get me wrong, I love mt DX, but these should not be on back order still...

They're still very much on back-order. I think I remember reading that Verizon stocked up on a few times more than the Incredible on its release, and ended up selling out even quicker.

    Motorola DROID X

September 16th ship-by date and it's the 2nd today. That's a little better than it was almost a month ago, when I ordered mine, but that's still quite the delay. On top of that, who knows when that date was last updated. It could change to the 19th or 20th by tomorrow afternoon.

I've had similar dealings with a few Verizon stores. I have one close though that I LOVE the people there and they won't blow smoke up your bum.

I really don't get the complaints or issues with the size of this phone. I understand everyone has their own preferences and for some it may be too big....but in all honesty, it feels lighter to me than my iPhone did and I carry mine in my front left pocket.

    To each their own...

Duh! That's how most guys carry them. Did you say WALMART... If they weren't "cheap", nobody would go there. I love meeting such ignorant idiot sales guys. I love to train them-something they should learn in their training. Watch that laugh turn to embarassment soon... Walmart is my fav school. Especially camera dept. They only fool old ladies and newbies.

Yeah, I went to Wal-Mart after I left that clown at the Verizon store and asked the pleasant older-than-middle-aged-but-not-quite-elderly woman if she knew when they would be getting the Droid X in stock. She didn't know, but she took my name and phone number and told me they would call me when they get one. THAT, my friends, is good customer service.

So now my concern is this: I'm buying my DX/Verizon plan with a refund check I'm getting from college. I'm getting really impatient and want a smart phone asap, however. Can I get some other phone (say, Droid 2) and then exchange it for a DX when they have them in stock? I think I've seen/heard others talking about a 30-day window of some sort, where you can do that kind of thing.

    Anyone know?

I recommend walmart, very happy with them after today. I have been calling around for the past two days trying to find a Droid X and noone in town had one. I called walmart and got a similiar response they did not have one but the woman asked for my number and said she would call me when they had one in stock.
About 45 min later I got a call they had one Droid X that was hidden behind some blackberrys and she found it when helping some other customers. She held it for three hours and when I got there she went to get it from the back of the store where she had held it. She was really cool and seemed excited that I was getting the phone, no commission she even said it wasnt her department she had to keep calling for help because she worked in toys but the mobile person called in. I have to say way better customer service then I have ever gotten when purchasing a phone and I buy ALOT of phones. Just my little rant. :D

No worries here, our WalMart (Ukiah, CA) doesn't have a Communications Center, just some PrePaid Phones and Card. However, getting help in the Electronic's Department is pretty tough, you better know what you are doing already :D

The Wal-mart employees at the store close to me are as knowledgeable as the Verizon employees I have dealt with. They are useless so you better not be there to ask questions because you will get screwed.

However, they may be useless in the knowledge department, but the Wal-mart employees do admit they don't know anything, are friendly, and seem to want to help you.

I'd have just said it, laughed and left.
You can order online or get them thru Best Buy or I guess Wally(we beat our vendors into submission) Mart.
Wal Mart employees know nothing and purposely try not to learn anything. Ask me how I know ;)

I got the same treatment at a local Verizon the day after the X launched. They just laughed at me. Then some dumb girl tried telling me to get the incredible cause it's so much better. Just ordered it online and got it a week later. I hate dealing with people at a store anymore...

I think the whole thing with Wal-Mart is that there is not a strong corporate culture of good customer service. Consequently, people get wildly varying experiences - if you hit upon a nice person who is interested in helping you, then great, you'll have a good experience. But the average person, who isn't interested, is never trained to be interested and friendly. They just get handed a vest and a nametag and pushed onto the floor.

Companies with good customer service don't just end up with friendly and helpful employees. They foster a culture of good customer service and reward it. Wal-Mart doesn't do that - but some people will still end up with really positive experiences because they happen to deal with really nice people who want to help.

For this reason among others, I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart, in principle. Of course, they're within my typically-meager budget, so I end up shopping there anyway.

Suffice it to say, I would love to see the evil corporate juggernaut drive that piss-ant Verizon/TelUSA store into the ground. Then I'll hunt down that walrus of a man and, you guessed it, laugh my ass off while he's forced to slim down, because he has to share the little bit of food he gets with the rest of his family, rather than wolfing it down on his own. (I know, I'm making a stretch assuming he managed to impregnate a woman and start a family). Then, since he doesn't have a job, he won't be able to afford smaller pants that fit, and he'll be miserable because his fat pants keep falling down all the time. I'll laugh and laugh and laugh, then I'll take pictures and record (in HD ;)) his wailing and moaning with the Droid X I bought from the nice Wal-Mart lady across the street.

Then I'll find some other poverty-stricken family and buy them groceries, especially food, with the money I saved on my Droid X by buying it at Wal-Mart (equivalent to the $100 mail-in rebate), laughing all the while.

Actually, yes, there is still a giant backorder, and not just on the X. The Incredible and the iPhone 4 all suffer from the same problem: microchip manufacturers are behind. Waaay behind.

Should have went to his manager. Told him/her that they just lost a customer because of a disrespectful employee.
