I am confused. Some people swear by it. Others say "No way Jose."

I used it on my Moto Droid and sort of got in the habit of killing apps every so often, especially after using one.

Should I not use it for the X???

I want to best possible performance out of the phone and battery but don't know what to do.

    Thanks

I do SWEAR by it. The first couple days i had the X i thought the battery life was horrible. So i downloaded ATK and looked and i was at 52mb free. I killed everything running except for the few that i added to my ignore list and i got to over 200 free and my battery life is amazing now. I would say just give it a shot and see what YOU think and forget about what everyone else says. Its not gonna hurt to just try it out.

There is only one way a task killer would help and that is if you have an app installed that is defective and uses up resources in the background even when you don't want it to. People who have a task killer and report improvements to battery life have one or more apps that fall into this category. They would be better off figuring out which apps they are and getting rid of them rather than running the task killer. Task killers do more harm than good.

Why you don't need a task killer

Configure or get rid of whatever app it is that is killing your battery. Perhaps you have it auto updating too much and/or haven't set it up yet or it's just a bad app.

as long as u know what to exclude its priceless.
well, for me being a power user. with games and music and crazy apps i download running in the back...sometimes the only way to close them is to power it off, or take the batter out or...advanced task MANAGER widget :)

...I find that it depends on the phone.

When I had my Incredible, my Incredible was a BRICK without ATK. (Would force close, slow down, not work... :().

But I have absolutely no need for it on the X. So it really depends on your phone.

I can't figure out if I'm just used to a phone going without a charge for more than a day or if my phone is not holding its charged well enough.

It says it has been 8h36m since I last charged my phone, and it is telling me to plug in the charger. I really haven't used it that much today. I downloaded two apps, visited a couple of websites, and made two brief phone calls. I also customized my screens a little bit. Otherwise it has been sitting in my pocket.

The battery usage says that ~75% comes from the display. I imagine that's typical? I just went and cut down the screen brightness and I reduced the display off time from 1min to 30s. Although, I always just lock the phone whenever I put it down anyway.

People are saying that if your battery is going down too fast, it may have to do with a faulty app. How do you go about determining this?

What is the sense of having all this ram and not using it. I do not use a task killer although I have in the past on my Droid when ram was an issue.

The performance is great without ATK. In general I would use as little utility software possible.

Edit: My battery is lasting 16+ hours with moderate use.

lol 16 hours? Very hard to believe people when they say that. I get nothing compared to that even after the update. Moderate use or not.

Seriously dude you must need a new battery. I am running completely stock. I am not using the blur social stuff. I have not gotten below 20% before charging at night yet.

How often do you have your email updated? I can make it 10 hours on moderate use and thats it. No Blur widgets. Just 2 email accounts, facebook, and twitter updating every hour.

I believe it...yesterday I turned on my phone @ 6:30am, it powered it's self down @ 9:30pm...15 hours of moderate use and I did the update around 7:30am. The day before was about the same, except it never powered down, I just plugged it in before I went to bed @ 10:00pm...15.5 hours of moderate use and still had 20% of battery left. Today I downloaded ATK...we shall see if my numbers remain consistent.:D

If you're not getting real good battery life, when the battery gets down to say 40%, turn off the phone and take the battery out for a few seconds. Put it back in and restart the phone, and the phone will probably display the battery to be 70%+ full.

Then put the phone on the charger and let it fully charge, plus an hour at least. After that you should notice a little better battery life at least.

Oh BTW, took the phone off the charger this morning at 6:30, it's now 5:30, been streaming Pandora for an hour or so, listening to MP3's a few hours, light Facebook, downloaded some apps, installed the system update, rearranged my home screen a half dozen times, plus 3 email accounts getting pushed to the phone, and my battery is at 70%.

I am jealous. I took the phone off the charger at 6:30 put it in my pocket didn't touch it until 12 mess around for half hour few texts, emails and such. Again at 2 same thing few texts, emails and internet browsing. Last time at 5 and its down to 20%......

Today I changed my brightness from auto to 20% I do have 2 emails, twitter, and facebook updating hourly. Maybe I need to change the social apps from syncing. I do not run a live wallpaper.

Yeah I use it to close a specific app or two, but that's not the same as ending all apps regularly for a speed boost.
