XDA keyboard issue

    Installed the XDA keyboard so I could access Speech-to-text input. Works great except that the "Hide Keyboard" button doesn't appear after I disabled the "Smiley Hack" per instructions I'd read. I never use smileys but often use the hide keyboard function ... help!

    i dont think i've ever had a hide keyboard button, and not using xda keyboard at the moment, but holding the menu button down will show/hide keyboard, if that's the same intention as that hide keyboard button.

    hitting the hard back button also hides it

    I used the keyboard for a while for the same reason as the OP. I think there's an option to not use the smiley hack in the settings. this allows the KB to show the hide button instead. (I think. I remember having the hide button on mine, anyway)

    XDA Keyboard is that the same as better keyboard??

    not sure if the actual layout is the same or not, but as far as i know, better keyboard is a pay app through the market, and the xda keyboard is free through their site

    I searched it on the market and nothing shows up under XDA Keyboard, now I know why, LOL

    Want the easy solution? Smart keyboard from the market, which has an HTC skin as well as several others.

    Did you kill the keyboard after disabling the smiley hack?

    No, I didn't "kill" the keyboard ... I didn't realise I'd need to do anything more than disable the option. Went back and looked at the info listed for that option and saw it said to "kill keyboard." Scrolled thru the settings and found that, killed it and it the "hide keyboard" button is showing up. Much thanks!
