    Hi
As all of us have been seeing and reading issues regarding X10. Let's sum them up. Let's be more precise about what is a real deal-breaker.

1- Absence of "Multi-touch" has really made people change their decision.

2- Some people are worried about the screen resolution.

3- Android 1.6 is an issue as well.

So, please give your opinions about these issues, how important they are to you and how they are deal-breakers. Any other issues faced by the X10 owners.

The only concern I have on that list is the android 1.6, hopefully the update is soon rather than later.

Absence of multi touch is not an issue for me, the only thing I guess multi touch is useful for me is if there are games that uses it but that's why I have an itouch for. I did not get an android phone for the games (had a HTC Hero too).

Can anyone tell me what the issue is with the screen resolution? or maybe am not too picky? or an expert to notice something with it? because I think the screen resolution is great, have converted many of my movies to fit onto the whole screen and it looks amazing. What's the problem?

Sleepless, As you have used Hero before, is there any good / nice applications, not games, that need MT? I want to get X10, but wondering if there is any nice application cannot be run due to lack of MT. Thank you

Yeah, of those three potential issues:

    1. This one's legitimate and a poor decision by SE, especially for a phone of this level.

    2. As Markiz stated above, the issue is with the color depth of the screen hardware, and not the resolution (which is 854x480 - same as Motorola Droid, and highest on any phone currently to my knowledge).

There is concern that the hardware is only capable of 16-bit color (65K colors), rather than the 18-bit (256K colors) or true 24-bit (16M colors) of similar devices. As the X10 runs Android 1.6, which is limited to 16-bit color, we cannot verify if the hardware is capable of more. However, those who own the X10 seem to be quite impressed with the quality of the display, and Sony sent me the following when I emailed them asking about this very issue:

Didn't get any as to my understanding, multi touch was only possible at android 2.0 and Hero is still on 1.5.

I think the screen is great; no complaints here.

    As for the negatives;

No multi touch is a bit of a pain, but not the end of the world.
    Not loud enough from speakets
Camera should have auto flash, not just a light you have to manually switch on.
Simple editiing features are missing (like moving emails into folders)
Missing the trackpad for accurately positioning cursor in text fields.
    Battery not great
Mediascape pointless as you can't alter what it presents.
Timescape is not a lot of use to me, but it may be handy for some.

Best bit of the phone is how it looks!

Hey guy's, 1st post here, so go easy on me!!

Here is my take on this.

1- Absence of "Multi-touch" has really made people change their decision - In this day & age, with the Blackberry Storm 2, Nexus One, iPhone & even the HTC Hero all with Multi-Touch, its a shame to see Sony lagging as usual. It would be great to zoom in & out of web-sites, or use Google Maps.... but hey

2- Some people are worried about the screen resolution - Screen looks great to me!! It way not have the colour depth that the HTC Desire packs, but it still looks sharp!!

3- Android 1.6 is an issue as well - 2.1 will be available 2nd half of the year according to Sony.

4- My own issue. The X10 does not have a flash player!! Although Adobe have confirmed it will launch flash for Android, it will only work on Android 2.1 or above. This leaves me to think us X10 users are going to be left in the cold.

The only reason I got an X10 is because I think it is the best looking phone ever. I find it absolutely beautiful.

The display is really impressive. my only issue with the phone is, sometimes the touchscreen is does not respond properly. other than that, I'm fine. also, 1.6 while good, 2.1 would be better because 2.1 is really optimized for hardware.

My elder brother received his X10 today and I spent an hour or two with it. Here is what I have to say.

1- Regarding its touch sensitivity, I see no difference between iPhone and X10. It's highly responsive. Back in mind, I had a thought that SE may not be able to bring that responsiveness but it proved me wrong. Whether you are scrolling through contacts, menu, Timescape, etc, etc... It's brilliant.

2- SE's UI is quite useful and in my opinion, I like it more than HTC's Sense UI. Because the way it brings all the stuff at one place, Sense UI doesn't do that. Animations are really cool.

3- There are only three screens. HTC Desire has 7 or 9. But it's not a something very important. Three screens are enough to accommodate all your short-cut icons.

4- Absence of Multi-touch is hardly noticeable.

5- Couldn't understand one thing. In wallpapers, one can flick through them by sweeping finger but this feature is missing in photos. You sweep your finger but instead of moving right or left, new pic just loads.

    6- 1GHz processor's performance is marvelous.

7- Camera result is very good and features are satisfactory as well.

8- Some people wrote about keyboard problem but I didn't experience it.

IMO, this phone is really worth buying. One just can't ignore it just because of absence of multi-touch.

I've been debating pre-ordering an X10 from Rogers here in Canada all day, been really excited about this phone for a while but then to hear bad reviews of the keyboard and hardware lacking any kind of multitouch at the same time kind of gave me cold feet. Now that I've thought about it though, the keyboard is easily swappable for something better if Sony doesn't get their act together in a hurry. I've been hearing a lot of good things about Swype as well as the HTC keyboard though I haven't really used either much (HTC's for a few minutes only, seemed perfectly fine.) ..so I imagine I'd end up using those over the Sony one (which looks like an intern designed the bottom row in the engadget review) and to hear it is sometimes not registering taps.. well.. it's very disappointing, but not the end of the world. The virtual keyboard is a fundamental part of the UI, and Sony's designers should know better.

multitouch is not a deal-breaker for me, I've never had a phone which had it though my laptop trackpad does, and it can be handy but honestly anything you can do with multitouch can be done with a gesture or taps or a good old fashioned UI element. multitouch is more of a "gee-whiz neato" kind of "feature" to me.. yes pinch-zoom is nice but it's far from necessary for me.

The only real concern I have still is whether Sony makes good on their promise to update to 2.1, hopefully sooner rather than later. They should not have released this kind of powerhouse hardware running 1.6 this late in the game in the first place to be honest, but I'm confident the poweruser and devs drawn to this gorgeous hardware will put enough "gentle pressure" on them to expedite the process, and failing that the community will work something out on it's own.

tl;dr: as long as they roll 2.1 out sooner rather than later, I'll be happy. also first post. :)

Nothing. It's just another "I-too-must-have-my-whining-topic" with not a single real issue listed in it (there are problems one could rightfully complain about but this topic has none of them.)
MT is a gimmick, it's clearly a subjective stuff, not an issue, screen is amazing (people worried about 65k colors have no clue about colors whatsoever) and the version of Android is not an issue but one item on the spec list, let alone the upcoming 2.1 upgrade.

Interestingly enough most people whining about these things does not have an X10 - nuff said, I think...

    1. Personal Applications are stored on the local memory rather then the SDCard.
    2. Doesn't seem to be a way to locate personal apps using a file manager.
    3. Find the keyboard a bit fiddily.
    4. Touch screen is great like the useability of it.
    5. No multi touch.

Over all I think it is a great phone just need to work on 1 and 3 in my opinion.

Hi. I'm new to this forum, and I have had an X10 for about a week now, and I have some serious issues with the device which I haven't seen addressed here yet. I'll start a couple of new threads about very specific issues which I'm experiencing, but to sum up I have problems with the following:

    1) Excessive CPU usage.
    2) Mediascape functionality/force closing
    3) Timescape home screen laggy
    4) Keyboard problems (like everyone else - will update to new firmware before going further with this...)

I'm quite a techie, and I've installed various apps which monitor CPU and memory usage, and so far I'm not impressed with this phone's performance. And I'll of course refer to these numbers when reporting issues with the phone.

I hope to get some of my issues solved here, and also hope that I can help other people with any problems I might be able to solve...

    regards, Artur

I'm a CS system engineer by trade and to be honest I'm rather impressed by the responsivity this phone manages to maintain even with ~20 apps running and syncing in the background... once you ran out of memory switching between apps slows down a bit but it's understandable (memory paging) and still miles ahead of Windows Mobile 6.5...

Mediascape works great for me, no lag, no problems, Timescape loads a bit slow but then works fine - maybe a bit laggy when first slides to individual communication splines that are not part of the main one (caching issue perhaps?)

Keyboard is laggy, I agree though mine is not as bad as others describe here but it could be due to several reasons.

Those 3 things haven't bothered me in any way yet.

The only things I have issues with is the sound level and battery life. They are good don't get me wrong but could be better.

The sound level is good, but I have had the W550I and C905 where the sound is LOUD. And with it being Sony Ericsson you would have thought it be the same!

Battery life, I haven't noticed too much because I have constantly plugging in with my comp to get things sorted. But have noticed it does drop quite a bit with use.

Does anyone else's X10 drop WiFi connections regularly. The router had no problem with the TG01, but for some reason the X10 drops connection.

My only other issue is the lack of home screens, three simply isn't enough when your using widgets.

Sorry but the first 3 listed by the OP aren't "Issues"

Issues are thing such as the battery life, the keys being a bit akward to press etc
