One of the great things about Android is that application vendors can distribute their apps outside of the Android market. This is great for people who can’t purchase items directly from the market (due to their device or country), but it seems that the grass isn’t as green on some acres as they are on [...]

In other words, Gameloft wants you to pirate their games. I don't plan on buying anything from them, either way.

Isn't this the same game company who a week or so ago said that they were staying out of the Android market and selling direct because they didn't think they could make enough money in the market and wanted to "explore all options"?

Don't market rules allow users to test drive apps and get refunds if they don't like them, as well as port them over to new phones?

If so, It sounds to me like Gameloft is simply trying to mimic apple and retain control, control control over what you do with what you buy. Oh well, screw them, more opportunity for other companies.
