These are both great causes, and I can imagine I will be doing the same thing, but remember about the 30 day return policy. Make sure you love your phone before you commit to it for two years.

Selling my old Q9c and my girlfriend's Samsung Delve (Alltel) on eBay... figured I'd offset the cost of the Droid...

I usually hold onto at least one old phone in case something happens and I can't afford the replacement. My wife and I had to fall back on this when she lost her crappy Moto flip phone about a year back. She started using my old Razr. I do think that it's a good cause to donate your old gear. Thanks for posting the link and providing the information.

Not through Verizon's plan. scroll to the bottom of that link you posted.

"Donated phones are not tax deductible."

But there are some others posted in another thread for womens shelters that ARE tax deductible.

Keeping a backup phone is certainly prudent, when the list price for a replacement is $699. But a line in a Verizon contract cannot affect whether a phone is tax deductible or not. I say deduct everything and wait for the audit to tell you otherwise. And usually local women's shelters are just as delighted to get your used phone. Think globally, Act locally.

With my unique contract situation Verizon is telling me I have to send them back my Samsung Saga in order to upgrade. Shame, because I did like the Saga and I intended to keep it for GSM use, but whatever, give me my Droid!
