Hey everyone today I ordered a ZAGG full body max protector to replace my Body Glove case. I didn't know if anyone had any experience with covering the whole body with this thing? I went with the max vs the easy version because I'd think the corners are going prolly mostly likely to get hit if it's dropped and the easy version doesn't protect sides/corners :-( Obviously this provides no shock protection if it's dropped but it's a nice compromise between showing off it's sexiness and protection.

Had one on my iPhone and hated it. Started peeling pretty badly after a few weeks, and the screen protector had really bad orange peel effect. Sent the screen part back for a replacement and the new one was the same way. The $10 3 pack of screen protectors I got at AT&T for my Captivate are much higher quality.

Interesting. I was looking into the ZAGG screen protectors but they were a bit expensive so I went with the 3 AT&T ones as well. Thanks for the info though!

Zagg to me is like the Monster cable of protectors. Except they are actually bad quality.

I have a Zagg full body on my iPhone 3GS, it's been on for over a year now, and went on a week or so after I got the phone. I don't usually notice the orange peel effect, though I do admit that it exists. For me, it's about not scratching my phone. More so because iPhones have great resale value should I decide it's not with being an iPod to me anymore now that I have the Captivate. The Captivate, while outstanding, will probably not have a big resale market, like the iPhone, but part of me still would like to keep it scratch-free, especially since I just found my first small scratch on the beautiful screen, and am considering exchanging it out for a new one.

    Yikes!
I'm usually pretty hard on my phones. I've been very careful with this one.
Any idea how your screen got scratched? I want to avoid that (obviously) I was hoping it is strong enough it's not an issue.

I am waiting for my zagg full body protector maximum. i am seeing lot of negative reviews about this product. what is that orange peel effect? i thought zagg is a good brand. i used to have contour body case for my iphone 3g and used a screen protector from zagg but it did not have any orange peel effect. is it something specific to phones other than iphone?

Orange peel effect is when the film has a translucent orange peel look to it. It is not specific to other phones than the iPhone because all of the invisible shield products I had for my iPhone had them pretty bad. They weren't AS noticeable when the screen was on, but it was definitely still visible.

thanks dontshakepandas!! so the orange effect is left on the film and not on the screen of the phone right?

I was hoping the screen was strong enough too, though it's not a big scratch. It looks more like a small pet hair, but by running my fingernail over it, I can tell it's a scratch.

Not sure if it came from setting it in my car's center console while out yesterday, and a pen tip got it, or in my pocket, but I only keep chapstick in the same pocket, but my best guess is that I pulled the cord for my iPhone charger or the mini USB charger out of the corner that I charge stuff at, and the screen may have been resting near either of the cords and the connector scraped against the screen.

The orange peel effect is the film itself. The film is designed to take the force of any objects that hit or scrape the screen, so it has a slight gel-like quality to it (along with the fact that you apply a spray to the film befor applying to the phone), rather than being a rolled out piece of plastic like other protectors. As a result, it has a slightly bumpy look to it, like the peel of an orange, and a slight texture when moving your fingers across it.

Yea, the orage peel thing does exist. But wasnt really noticable to me much. It is because the Zagg film is kind of rubbery and thicker as aposed to the cheaper ones are just super thin strips of plastic film.

In contrast. My wife and I got our iPhones 3g phones at the same time about a month after they came out. I put a zag on mine, and she got the cheapie 3 pack ones. Yea, I noticed the orange peel effect, but it wasnt a big deal. My wifes cheapie protector started peeling about 3 weeks in. After the forth week it looked like crap. It was peeled, wrinkled, and had dust and crap trapped under it. My zag was fine. She put on the second one and it lasted maybe six weeks, then the third, that one lasted about another 6 weeks until you could bairly see thru it. She peeled it off and didnt use a protector, a few months later one of her keys put a hefty scratch on her screen :(

About a year after I had my first zagg on, I broke a bolt off while working on my car. I stuffed the boken bolt in my pocket (forgetting my phone was in there). When I got to the hardware store, I took the bolt out and relized my phone was in there next to this jagged piece of metal! I took the phone out and the screen protector was scratched to HELL! I was really worrried, but i got home, peeled the protector off, and the screen was as good as new. I Put another zagg on, a year later, I buy my captivate, and my trusty old 3g still has the zagg on it looking as good as it ever did. I just put a zagg on my Captivate. I hope this one lasts as long as my old ones.

Sorry for such a long story, but for a lot of the crap the zagg ones get.. In many cases it people who dont put them on propperly. It does take some patience and skill, like tinting a window, but smaller. Also, once its on, you need to let the protecor settle overnight before you go about slidding it into your pocket, or holster or w/e. I have never tried the full body ones, but been very happy with the screen protectors I have used for the last 2+ years!

I got a full body protector from Gadget Guard, ZAGG's smaller competitor. GG's protector uses similar material, is thinner (from what I heard) and cheaper (got it for $14). I have not heard of orange tinting in GG's protectors and have not seen it yet in mine. No peeling at all yet either, though I've only had it on for a week. It was tricky to put on, but I managed to do a good job and my Captivate looks like its sexy self while being fully scratch protected. My only complaint is that the edges tend to capture tiny lint from being in my pocket, but I guess that is expected and not really a big deal.

Here are pics of my Captivate with Gadget Guard on it:

This is the one I got:
Samsung Captivate FULL BODY Cell Phone SCREEN PROTECTOR - eBay (item 180540149490 end time Aug-06-10 09:32:31 PDT)

There's also another brand, Clear Protector, offering a similar product:
FULL BODY Screen PROTECTOR For Samsung AT&T Captivate - eBay (item 390220560198 end time Aug-20-10 12:08:19 PDT)
I have not heard of Clear Protector much though.

Orange peel is how Zagg creates their products to not show fingerprints. Mine's on it's way. Figured F-It, the body glove case hid too much. Took away from the overall sexiness.

Not sure if these companies have made anything for the captivate, but bodyguardz and wrapsol are better products from my experience. The original wrapsol has a nice matte feel on the back and the new one apparently has some shock protection, (I'm curious).

While I love the svelte lines of the phone, I'd rather cover it up to protect it against potential harm.

What Body Glove model fits the Captivate??

    Thanks.

I have the Body Glove on my Captivate with no screen protector. I'm very cautious with my phone so the Body Glove should be enough protection. The case hangs over the screen a bit all around so if it falls flat the screen won't hit the floor. I also make sure to having nothing in the same pocket that my phone is in to prevent scratches on the screen.

zagg is the same exact stuff, its all 3M anti-paint-chip-from-rocks film used on cars. yes, there are different thicknesses but all the stuff for mobile devices like phones is pretty much the same. it all comes down to the application of the film. take your time, and make sure the phone is super clean.

The one from AT&T - some stores will have it, and it's online in the AT&T accessory store.

I got mines from my AT&T store. First I went to a reseller store or whatever they are called and they had a generic pouch and they swore there were no cases out. I left and went to the AT&T store in the mall and they had the Body Glove. Fits like a champ and is not loose at all.

I installed my Zagg full body last night. If installed correctly, the orange peel effect can be held to a minimum. If you keep phones a long time like I do, then Zagg is a good way to go. If it peels or gets damaged, just send it in for a replacement. All you need is one replacement and you've made your ROI.
