Not sure if this belongs here, but what the hell.
What would you guys do in the advent of a zombie apocalyspe?
I'd grab a gun, make sure my loved ones and friends are ok, grab them, and head to the midwest with a shit load of food, water, and ammo

I'm actually reading The Zombie Survival Guide right now, lots of great tips on how to survive against the hordes of the undead. And packing up and moving is one of the last things you should do, finding a good defensible position is a much better way to do it. Prisons are great places to hole up, although the second story of a two-story house works well, too. Move all supplies upstairs and destroy the stairs, and the zombies won't be able to get to you, they are unable to build or even climb ladders. When you are on the move, you are in a much more vulnerable position and will have much more limited supplies. And you just say grab a gun, but don't say what kind. And unless you are an excellent shot (you have to hit the brain, or the bullet is wasted), then a gun isn't the best weapon. A crowbar is one of the best multi-use tools to have with you in a zombie outbreak, as it can be used to move things, wedge doors open, or as a weapon for destroying a zombies braincase fairly easily.

I started reading that just recently too. And I won't admit it to anyone (even myself), but I bought a bad a$$ Ka-Bar machete after reading a few zombie books. HAHA!

I will never join the Apple ranks... lmao

but seriously Zombie out break is totally plauseable and everyone should read "The Zombie Survival Guide"

Guns= no go unless you are picking them off from a distance... i will use my .22-250 for this.

i can pick off a small ground squirl from 100-150 yards i can def get a head shot on a zombie. but i will still stick with my no-ammo weapons for close quarters

Also one thing that everyone is sure to over look is the need for the "double tap" TY Zombieland, always confirm the kill.

btw the midwest will be the worst place to go. Flat plains with no defensive postions... i would vote for the Mountains, as long as you don't mind a little snow it will make it easier to set up camp and see tracks of anything that is around.

I disagree. A nice plot of land out in the middle of nowhere, where there are the least amount of people, ample recurring food supply, and a big fence would be the safest place to go =)

maybe i am just byist (sP) since i am from there but i would rather deal with snow (which the cold weather might be something the virus can't survive) than to have a "deffensive" set up in where they have tornado alley IMHO

Once a dead brain is infected and creates a zombie, cold weather won't kill the virus. And cold, water, heat, none of that stuff affects a zombie, as they can't feel pain. They can survive underwater too. But the most important thing is to hole up in a well-defensible place and not move around unless you absolutely have to. If you are already in the midwest, then stay there and hole up. One benefit there is the low population means fewer zombies. Same would probably apply to the mountains. You just need to make sure that you are able to be in an area where the zombies won't be able to see you before you see them.

I feel like I'm taking this way too seriously!:p

We live in the country, but not entirely sparsely populated.

We'll need supplies after a certain point.

We'll hole up in the house (solar panels to provide power, cut off from the grid). Nothing is coming IN my house. So, as long as we stay inside, we're fine.
Once things calm down, we can do a few things.

Tear the metal off the roof of the shed.

Dig into the wall of the basement. Lay a metal side and foundation.

Bring in two rabbits for breeding (for food). This brings in a fairly consistent food supply.

For other supplies, we would raid a local store (depending on how far this has gone). I should be able to lead the majority of the local zombies away using a vehicle... and then circle around from another direction in order to get to the store.

This will give us most, if not all, of the supplies we need. I will need to pull a radio out of a truck to get communications. (Most dangerous because I can't predict what I'm going to find IN the truck).

The only real concern will be water. That we can get with rain, assuming it's not tainted with the virus.

I think it also depends on what type of zombies you are dealing with. Dealing with Night of the Living Dead zombies is completely different from dealing with Zombieland or Dawn of the Dead zombies. One group is slow moving and non-problem solving and the other are fast with some problem solving skills.

I may have to pick up the Zombie Survival Guide just to make sure I am prepared. I know I would have guns though....I like guns. :D

No, no, no, WRONG! The basement is the WORST place to be in a house during a zombie infestation! Metal sides and foundation will not keep the zombies out, as they can just fall in through the door! You need elevation, zobies are incapable of climbing ladders! So move all your supplies to the second story or the attic if you don't have a second story, and then either destroy the stairs (zombies can work their way up those) or raise the access ladder to the attic. Basements are below ground level, meaning zombies WILL eventually get into it if they know you are there, and you are just trapping yourself in your own grave down there.

Guns are OK, but you need to pick the right guns, and really be an excellent shot. A bullet to the head is the ONLY way to kill a zombie. Any other kind of a hit is just a wasted bullet. Remember, zombies are already dead, and thier internal organs do nothing, so shooting one in the heart, lungs and gut won't even slow him down. Plus, with guns, you need to carry ammo, which is heavy and takes up space that could otherwise be used for food. Single-shot hunting rifles are good for long range, and other than that, a .22 rimfire is very good, since the rounds are light and small (you can carry more), and the lighter projectile, in the event of a headshot, tends to bounce around inside the skull, causing just as much damage as a .45 would. Otherwise, hand weapons like crowbars and KA-Bar knives are ideal, especially since they can be used for more than one thing, thereby keeping your load lighter. And those running zombies are just Hollywood fiction, real zombies are slow, dumb, yet singleminded in their hunt for human flesh to feast on. Although why they eat human flesh is unknown, as, like I said earlier, their internal organs don't work, so the flesh isn't digested at all. Recently killed zombies have been disected and found to have a digestive tract full of undigested flesh. Why do they hunt us then? Science is still working on this question. Also, zombie have no senses or stregth/power that we do not have. The biggest thing they have going for them is that they feel no pain and don't get tired, so they will keep coming at you until they are dead.

The house is solid... the basement is for raising rabbits. The metal roofing is so that they don't dig out and escape before I can eat them.

But, they are not getting inside my house in the first place. and if they cannot get inside my house, they cannot get inside my basement.

lol There are actually a few states that have zombies as part of their disaster preparedness programs, although I highly doubt you will find anything on record about them. :D

Exactly how "solid" is this house of yours? Concrete with barred windows? If not, it is not zombie-proof!
