Default Radios, Recoveries and HBOOT **UPDATED 4-18-12**

This thread serves to keep all the radios, recoveries and hboot's in one place for people who may need them or just want quick access to them.

Scotty and I will be updating this over the course of the weekend.

If you think this thread's a good idea the thanks button is available

Cheers!

Just an FYI, every ROM available right now is compatible with the MR2 radio and up. The MR1 is what the TB shipped with and is no longer supported outside of running dated Froyo

sorry for the inconveniences,guys... i will try and get mirrors for all these, starting with the ones that wupload is not available. it may take me a few days,so bear with me. if you need a specific one post at the end of the thread, and ill move it to the top of the priority list -scotty

Radios

Rename these to PG05IMG.zip (if they aren't named that already), place on the root (not in a folder) of your SD, check MD5 and make sure they are an EXACT match and then flash in HBOOT

HBOOT's

the following are for the most part, intended for return to stock purposes,or other advanced uses.

giving proper credit, the original thread for shadowmites permanent patch hboot is here on xda. if you havent flashed it yet,you should. ive included it here for a download mirror.

each of these .zips contains a "readme" text file that contains the md5 of the PG05IMG inside. to flash in hboot, move the inside PG05IMG to the root of your sd card and rename it "PG05IMG" and boot to hboot to flash. the original root eng s-off bootloader will let you flash any of these,so dont do it without reason, and knowing what youre doing.

if you need the image to flash in fastboot(to replace the permanent patch hboot) simply extract the image contained within. i will eventually get md5s for the image themselves, and for the .zip downloads. for now just double check the inside file with the provided md5 before using the image,or flashing in hboot.

and a word of warning:
DO NOT mess with your bootloader without good reason. without it,no software will load(read:your phone will be a paperweight). flash the wrong one with the wrong firmware, and you may end up with a SECURITY WARNING and recovery may be difficult.

so please, seek advice if you need to change one for whatever reason and are confused or unsure of what to do.

and now,on to the downloads

shadowmites permanent patched hboot(same thing that is included in the revolutionary root method). flash it if you havent.

I agree, but the powers that be did not want it to be a sticky. I have the link in the TB Root/Unroot Guide sticky if you ever need to find it again quickly.

I just just rooted and installed CM7 on a friends phone. Everything went well other than not being able to send or recieve phone calls (shuts off everytime). I figured it was a radio problem so I downloaded the above links and flashed...Everytime is says installation aborted. Any help would be appreciated.

You're going to have to be more specific. Which radio did you download? Did you check the md5 sum? Did you make sure if was named properly?

Two ways to do it..

1) Download an MD5 sum checker on your computer. (just google it and you will find one)
2) Transfer the downloaded file to your Tbolt and download an app called AFV (Android File Verifier, I believe thats what it stands for lol)

Your done

You don't need to check the md5 twice. Download the radio and check it on your phone before flashing.

Ok, use the instructions jivens posted and check the md5 against this MD5 - b1e10920c1f191561fd05f1e9c445482

if it matches then the file isn't corrupted and it was likely just a bad flash. Try flashing it again and, may sound stupid, but make sure that the battery cover is on or you won't have any signal

You're flashing it in recovery,Wich is not correct. You must rename "pg05img" and flash it in hboot(more detailed instructions in the "how to" sticky

Yes, Scotty is correct. To get to hboot power the phone off then hold volume down and power. A white screen will pop up, the radio named PG05IMG.zip will be read by the bootloader and you'll press volume up to accept the download. DO NOT POWER THE PHONE OFF WHILE IT'S UPDATING! Set the phone down and let it do it's think. When it's finished updating it will ask you to press the power button to reboot

ha I should have re-phrased what I said. I meant there are two ways to do it, and choose one of the two lol..no need to check twice unless you're OCD (which I can be about wiping data three times LOL)

i always check it twice. i check it on my PC(no point in transfering to phone if its allready bad) and then i check it on my phone with AFV.

maybe seems overkill or paranoid, but better safe than sorry

if youre only going to do 1 check, make sure youre doing the phone check,as it *could* get goofed up during the trasnfer

That's why I always just check on my phone. It really doesn't matter how many times or where you're checking, as long as everyone is checking them, that's all that matters

I am not sure if you are on MR2 they may be able to use the GB radios since GB roms can use the MR2 radio. I would download a GB rom to put on the SD before you flash just to be safe

Just a quick fyi... everything from mr2 forward uses comapatible radios.

We could call shipping firmware to mr1: 1st Gen
From mr2 forward: 2nd Gen

RZ is about to update to 2.1.2. It fixes a bunch of issues, the most important is loading backups correctly. Should be up later.

Just an FYI.

It is linked in the second post of the how to root/unroot sticky. It was a sticky at one point then it became a regular post again. See this post http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/399960-radios-recoveries-hboot-updated-9-24-a.html#post3290503

Someone felt that this wasn't deserving of being a sticky so I had to bury a link in another sticky and let it fall to the bottom of the threads

It seems like someone dont like us bolt owners. I have seen more useless crap in other sections become stickies. This is important info for rooters. Not like we have a lot of people posting in this section. To the powers that be let us have our stickies for files that we need. So we dont have to search for them.

Most root sections have a generic sticky with most important threads linked in it now. If the community want's one done for the TB that will have every important thread linked it can be done.

i wouldnt be opposed to using scarys generic roor guide, and filling it in with our stuff. we wouldnt have to follow it exactly, but could use the basic idea.

heres what it looks like in other forums: Merge: All Things Root Guide

what does anyone think?

edit: just noticed yeahhas new avitar. it gives me warm, fuzzy, happy thots of childhood

Hello Android Forums,

I am attempting to reflash a recovery and then to reflash superuser, since my phone was wiped a while ago, but my wifi tether (and superuser) was still working. Later, it stopped working, saying that the phone was not rooted, but superuser was still in the applications. I am not sure which recovery (or recoveries) to flash, since there is quite an extensive list. Which ones do I reflash and how?

Also, if it helps, I used revolutionary to root my HTC Thunderbolt

When you say your phone was wiped what do you mean? Is your hboot still s-off? Are you on the stock recovery?

If you are on the stock recovery I would suggest flashing the newest CWM as that is what most people use. You would download it and flash it in hboot.

Thank you for the response

Its memory was completely erased when the OTA update was applied last month, but my phone is still s-off. I am not sure what recovery I am using, is there a way to check?

you can boot to recovery via power/vol down(from powered off state) then select "recovery" with the volume rocker after hboot checks for files(green writing flashed)

if it takes you to a recovery,it should say what it is at the top of the menu. if it doesnt, pay attention to the color, that may help

if it takes you to a triangle with an ! that is the stock recovery. as yeaha suggested the newest clockwork is prolly an acceptable choice. if want to try a different one, just pick the newest version of which ever you want to use. i personally use twrp or amon_ra.

edit:
while your in hboot, tell us if you are revolutionary s-off, or if you have the 1.04.2000 eng hboot.

If you accepted the OTA I would assume you are on the stock recovery. I also like twrp I suggested CWM since most people use it

I recently rooted my phone with Revolutionary, can someone help me figure out which stock recovery I need to prevent an OTA from being installed?

None of them. A stock recovery will install an ota,not prevent it. Best way to prevent installing OTAs is to install a Rom

In the other thread I thought you were telling me to install a stock recovery. I don't want to install a custom rom right now unless it can be done without wiping my data, is there any other way?

what other thread? i prolly was telling you to install a stock recovery,as its my opinion that its the best way to deal with OTAs.

however, you may have misunderstood the reasons.

when your running a stock rom,you will recieve notifications when OTAs are available. in some cases, the OTAs will apply themselves wether youve agreed to them or not

there are basically 3 ways(that i know of) to deal with this:
1)install a rom. even a stock rooted rom should have had the files that trigger an OTA removed. this will wipe your data(you can try to "dirty flash" or "update" by flashing the rom overtop of your stock one with no factory reset/data wipe but that is NOT the reccomended method, and more often than not causes prollems). if you backup all your user apps with titanium backup,re-set up on a fresh new rom install is fairly painless, plus making a nandroid backup prior to flashing allows you to go back to your current setup if you get too fustrated or change your mind about the new rom.

2) there is a file that lives in system/etc/security that you can rename with root explorer or the equivalent. this will cause the OTA to not install. however, the phone will periodically relaize there is an OTA,download it,and the install will fail. a minor PITA but it will keep you from accidentally installing OTAs wile running a custom recovery. directions and description in post #34 here

3)install the stock recoveries and let the OTAs install. IMO this is better ,as the OTAs do bring benefits and improvements that you may not ever get with options 1 or 2. it does require you to have rooted with revolutionary,or be running shadowmites permanent hboot,if you rooted old school. that way your s-off hboot is not overwritten during an OTA.

number 3 technically will lose your root after the ota is applied. however this is not a big deal. all you need to do,after every OTA is applied is the following:
-install a custom recovery(like clockwork)
-relfash the superuser .zip file(like when you originally rooted with revolutionary)
-reinstall your stock recovery in preparation for the next OTA.

hopefully that clears up some things for you
