Default Switch to stock rom over OTA?

I want to switch to stock ROM to get GB, but I cant plug my phone into the computer.

The mini USB port is all jacked up, and the only way I can charge it is using a battery charging dock, and then putting the charged battery into my phone.

I feel like I read in the past that you could make your phone accept an OTA while rooted, but mine wont find the update

Any help? Thanks

The easiest way to get back to.stock while rooted is flash the OTA rom. Taking the OTA requires hboot flashes and isn't as easy as flashing a rom

Yes the thread titled "the gb OTA has started if you are rooted..." does in the OP. I'm currently using the app so linking isn't the easiest thing. Ill get on a CPU in a few to give you a link

just realized that i could use a micro SD card reader to load rom into phone to be flashed. heh. so I should be able to flash stock rom in that manner and then accept OTA and it'll be back to stock right?

will accepting the OTA remove root? I seem to recall that used to happen with Froyo. Havent been on here much since last time I rooted

*edit* I'm perfectly ok with it removing root, btw. Would be preferable actually. lol *edit*

You wouldn't have root access but your hboot would still be s-off. You would have to flash to the stock MR2 OTA rom in recovery, flash back to the stock radios in hboot, flash the stock recovery in hboot and hope to get the OTA and it work. I still suggest just flashing the OTA rom and uninstalling superuser if you are trying to make it look stock. Much easier and less chance of bricking since there won't be any hboot flashes.

You can download all of this directly from you phone so it doesn't have to connect to the CPU at all.

The link in the OP of the other thread is the OTA rom, you just need to flash that in recovery (wiping the partitions as described) then you will be on the OTA.

Then all you need to do is uninstall superuser and it will look as if you aren't rooted.

Is this for the phone you are sending back to VZW?

Indeed. Just wanted to give it to them as close to normal as possible

Really if you compare the OTA vs the stock rom the only real difference is the OTA doesn't have superuser installed I really don't think VZW looks at hboot or recovery. You may wish to install the stock recovery after you have flashed the OTA rom not that I think VZW will check but if someone gets your phone after it has been "refurbished" and there is an OTA they can actually get it

just flashed the rom. It turned on, and went to the setup wizard, but right now it's in "Phone Activation" and still "Activating.."

the spinny circle is still goin, so it isnt locked up, and it will also time out and turn the screen off. but it wont let me click past it, and so far hasnt "activated" the phone.

been a few minutes...

*edit* I found i can exit back to where you select your language (ie, Page 1 of the wizard) but it then goes to the activation page and continues taking forever

*edit 2* ok so now I'm thinking it just doesnt have a radio now...? Which radio should I install to be stock? Why doesnt this stock rom have a radio? I can download it on my other phone on SD Card and swap SD card back to old phone to flash it tho..

That is odd. I haven't heard of any others having issues activating after they install the rom. You do have your SIM in the phone correct? And as far as I know there isn't a 4G outage currently. Those are the only 2 things I can think of that would prevent activation.

I don't see how a restart could hurt at this point. You could also try a factory reset if you want to (I am not sure how much it will do since the phone wont activate)

Do you know what radios you are on currently?

my old rom was a Froyo BAMF using the old radios. I bet that's it. I'm reading now that the old radios only work with the Froyo.

If that's true, I'll need to download a GB radio to my SD card, and flash it...from hboot? Never done that before, only ever flashed anything from Clockwork, and with the new stock rom installed, i cant press the power button to restart into recovery...

That is the problem, I would bet on it

First can you get on wifi? If you can then we shouldn't have any issues.

Download the 5th GB radio from here http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/399960-radios-recoveries-hboot-updated-9-24-a.html#post3104540

The file needs to be named "PG05IMG.zip" that is a zero not an O and placed on the root of your SD card.

Power the phone off and then hold volume down while pressing the power button to turn it back on, this should take you to hboot. It will scan your SD and prompt you to update. Press volume up, it will update and say press power to reboot, do so and you should be able to connect to VZW's network again.

No problem The_Superhoo, glad you got it back to how you wanted it. I got worried there at the end where you needed to flash the radio. And yeah the phone should appear stock to any casual user (which I am not even sure you can call VZW's refirb dept that much )

yeah without trying too much, the most obvious evidence I saw that it was rooted was in Recovery, that was it without digging alot.

Thanks again.

Yeah if you boot into hboot it will show but at this point without a working microSD slot there isn't a way to change hboot, you could flash the stock recovery in hboot.
