Default Is there a way to stop an app from updating in the market?

I know if I sideload an app then it won't appear on my list for a while, but the market seems to see it again after a while. Is there something I can do with permissions to make it so it won't update? I know I have the flash player that works with hulu and everytime it tries to update I get a message that it wasn't signed properly or something and it doesn't update. Can I do something like that with other apps I don't want to update?

You can go in to the market bring up the app and select manual update. It wont update unless you physically press update.

Yeah, I know that. But I don't like having to keep track of what apps I don't want to update. Plus I like to just hit update all whenever there is a large list. I want to know if there is actually a way to block an app from being able to update, like some way of altering the permission or something.

Then I would say no as your only options are manual update or auto update. You can hit menu and select my apps. Then it brings up a list of all your apps. Then you can hit update all. That's the extent of the market.

Is there a way I could sign the app or something? I don't really know what signing an app is. I know you say there is no way to keep it from updating, but you're wrong. As I said, I have the flash app that has been altered to play hulu on the web. It shows up as Adobe Flash Player 11 under my apps in the market, and it shows up under the update menu on the market. But when I hit update, it tries to update it but then it says update failed due to a problem with the signature or something. Then it leaves the version I have installed. So there's definitely a way to do it. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Edit: the message says the package is not signed correctly.

Ok I'm this is what I do my apps that are "market" friendly you can set to auto update. You apps that's you have got from another source don't mark for auto update or you'll get that error message. The only way to fix that is uninstall that app go and download the newest version. It is a pain but so is paying for something that you can have for free. Just my opinion.

If it is not a paid app sideloading should stop it from updating.

You can use TiBU pro to unattach it from the market.

I think I have tried the Titanium method, but can't remember so I'll try it again. Sideloading works but the market is tricky and must do some kind of refresh on its own. It always figures out that the app is on my phone after a while and it shows back up on the list to update.

That is odd, the update should fail if it does show up there. If you get something from the amazon app store does it show up in your market because mine doesn't. Is this an app you paid for?

It's Phantom Music Widget, so it's not paid. My Amazon apps don't show up either, except for Johnson's Bubble Level. It shows up and will let me update from the Android Market, which is totally weird. I think the reason the sideload ones show up is because I originally did download them from the market, then uninstall to get them off the list, then sideload them. But maybe who knows?

You could get apk tool and decompile the app then recompile and sign it. This would give you the same effect as your Hulu app.

Yes! That's the solution I was looking for. Is that a program I download for my computer and is the process pretty self-explanatory?

It's pretty easy you can get it from here. Put the apk in the folder place-apk-here-for-modding, open the script, 22 for set current project, select the project number and enter, 1 extract apk, 3 zip and 4 sign. I'm pretty certain that this will work for you without having to decompile the app like I originally suggested. A lot of the other options require ADB to be setup properly but those functions above are not dependent upon ADB.

In case anyone is interested I found an option in Titanium to detach an app from the market. Doesn't show up after that. Not sure if it will be permanently detached though.

I have a ZTE Blade running Konsta's CM9 in which the YouTube app from Play won't open. There is an older version which runs fine so I have been attempting to prevent it from updating or appearing on the update list. Using TB Pro and unlinking from the market didn't work for some reason, but using Papadroid's suggestion of APK Multi Tool worked a treat.

Thanks, Papadroid. I used this procedure on the Aldiko ebook reader. I did not want to update the app and did not want to have to always be careful to not update it. If there is no notification of a new version it is easier. So far no indication of updates available for that app.
