ClockworkMod – also known as Clockwork and CWM – is a custom recovery for Android phones and tablets that allows you to perform several advanced recovery, restoration, installation and maintenance operations on your Android device that aren’t possible with the stock recovery.
To install CWM, do the following. If you wish to UPGRADE an existing CWM recovery that you already have installed, you still follow the following steps or alternatively, you can try the steps at the end of the post in the UPGRADE CWM USING FLASHABLE ZIP IN RECOVERY section:
1. Download the CWM Recovery file using one of the links at the end of the post. I recommend one of the latest versions--currently version 5.5.0.4. Unzip the recovery.img file from the Zip file you downloaded (using WinZip, 7-Zip, or another zip utility) onto your desktop so it is easy to find.
2. Turn OFF your Motorola Triumph (MT) phone.
3. Once the phone is off, make sure that it is not plugged into anything at this time.
4. Hold down the Power + Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the phone vibrates. (I usually hold the phone in one hand and then simultaneously press one button with my thumb and the other button with my forefinger)
5. The phone will boot into Download Mode. You will see the following types of messages on the screen:
polling, get oemsbl_mode=1
6. Now plug the phone into your computer. A drive labeled MOBILE will appear in your computer (MAC or Windows. Not sure about Linux)
7. Open the MOBILE drive and you should see a folder named image.
8. In the image folder, you will now see the recovery.img file.
9. Rename the file to recovery.img.old (or something like that) so you have a backup in case you ever want to revert back to the stock recovery.
10. Copy the recovery.img file that you unzipped in step 1 into the image folder in the MOBILE drive on the phone.
11. After the copy is complete, unplug the phone from the computer and take out the battery, wait a second, and put the battery back into the phone.
12. To boot up into CWM, hold down the Power + Volume Up and Volume Down simultaneously until the phone vibrates.
Please note: DO NOT be alarmed if you see these types of error messages. Many people (including me) get them and none have reported that the errors affect the operation of ClockworkMod Recovery:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
The MT should boot up into CWM. The latest stock version 5.5.0.4 will have blue lettering.
The controls for CWM 5.5.0.4 (as well as all previous Isaacj87 versions) in the MT are:
Volume up --> up
Volume down --> down
Power --> turns screen black Menu --> select
Home --> nothing
Back --> back
Search --> nothing
If you want to view a video of how to install CWM on the MT, Minus5252 put together this video on this post -- just don't download the version shown in the video as that version is old: ClockworkMod Recovery [For Motorola Triumph]
This Zip file is a flashable Zip file in clockworkmod recovery or follow the instructions above to install if you do not already have a previous version of clockworkmod recovery installed.
This version will recognize the .no_confirm or .one_confirm files in your clockworkmod folder when wiping data and cache also in addition to installing zips. See this post for instructions if you are interested in using the .no_confirm or .one_confirm:
CWM 5.0.2.6 (thanks to isaacj87 and tickerguy) supports ext4

UPGRADE CWM USING FLASHABLE ZIP IN RECOVERY:
If you already have a Recovery on your MT and wish to flash a newer or different recovery version, b_randon14 has provided the following flashable ClockworkMod Recovery Zip files that you can just put on your SDCard and flash as normal--I have not tested them so, as usual, do so at your own risk:
Changelog:
MT_CWM_5504_20120527_yellow.zip
-Changed menu and text color to YELLOW.
-Always show the "Go Back" menu options on submenus.
-The keys for this version are:
Volume up --> up
Volume down --> down
Power --> select
Menu --> nothing
Home --> nothing
Back --> back
Search --> nothing
Huge thanks to Koush on whose work all CWM is based on. If I missed anything or forgot to thank anyone, let me know and I'll update this.

If you are using Tickerguy's CM7, you must have the new recovery, due to CM7 running of of EXT4 partitions, which the new recovery can handle. However, if you only use 2.2 ROMs you should be able to use the other builds. (There is maybe one or two ROMs that work on the old recovery and won't work on the new one.)
If you are unsure, just ask the dev of the ROM what CWM you should use to flash it. Hope that helped!
Regardless of selected option in CWM 5.0.2.3 I see the hat graphic in the center of the screen and ultimately need to press the power button to return to the menu. I had no problems with 4.x. What is going on?

I get error's displayed ( not sure if they are really errors) on all of my CWM install. CWM works fine and all can do nandroid backup and restore can install from zip card.
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount/cache/recovery/last_log

Any insight on what this means should i be alarmed?
Yeah mine says it everytime I boot, and trust me I can for one say I flash the crap out of my phone testing my ROM and theme, as well as doing multiple backups and restores, and everything works a-ok!
updated OP to include the latest 5.0.2.6 CWM posted by Isaac.
No need to update if you don't want to if you are already using 4.0.1.5 or 5.0.2.3 -- unless you're like me and just have to have the latest versions...
Has anyone ever had any issues booting into CWM holding down the power & volume keys? I’ve tried it 4 or 5 times today and my phone just boots into CM7 as if I just used the power button. I can select reboot into recovery via CM7 or Rom Manager but not by holding down both power & up/down volume keys. I can’t imagine it’s just me being stupid which is always a possibility but I have had this phone since the week it came out and have booted into CWM this way more times than I can imagine. Have also verified that both my volume keys are working as that was my first guess at the problem. Otherwise I haven’t made any changes other than flash manteras OC Kernel and I can’t see how it could affect anything when the phone is turned off.

Actually, my wife's phone sometimes has a hard time booting into recovery as well.
First thing is, make sure your MT is not plugged into the charger or your computer.
Second thing is, just keep trying... I find it sometime helps to do a battery pull, hit the power button for about 10 seconds or so to make sure all power is discharged, insert battery, and then try again.
Also this is probably just coincidence, but if I've tried a few times and it keeps not booting into recovery, after doing the battery pull steps above, I leave the cover off and it works miraculously goes into recovery mode when I try... It's sometimes ornery.

mantera, what files need to be edited to change the color of the recovery (in the repo). I'd like to build my own themed version. I already changed the background pics, but where is the file(s) that determine the color of the text. I currently have my own built from Issac's repo.

You do that in this file in the device folder: device/motorola/triumph/recovery/minui/graphics.c

I installed CWM 5.0.2.6 and then TG reloaded. Now when I go to google play, it wants to update CWM to version 5.0.0.3 and SuperUser from v3.0.4 to v3.0.7
From what I understand reading here, I should not update CWM because the 5.0.2.6 is specially made for Triumph, but how do I set it so that it doesn't show on the google play update list? I'm afraid i'll hit update by mistake and run into problems later. Is there a problem if I update superuser?

You can't update CMWR through the play store... Maybe you mean rom manager which doesn't matter if you update it. Also you can update superuser with no problems.
You're right, it's the ROM manager. So it doesn't matter if I upgrade it? Actually it's more like downgrading from 5.0.0.5 to 5.0.0.4. How about SU?
Yes, you can go ahead and upgrade superuser. It doesn't matter if you upgrade rom manager or not since for the most part, the Triumph doesn't use it and it's not fully supported. I just usually get rid of rom manager, actually.
I only use it for the "Reboot into recovery" button.
I updated mine and it is 5.0.0.6, which, IIRC, can recognise hacked versions of CWM.
If that's all that you use it for, then all of the custom ROMS already have that option in the power menu. So unless you just like having that app installed, there's no need for it.
Obviously, it's just your personal preference, but I prefer not to have an app installed taking up room/constantly running and checking for updates, etc, when a simple option on the power menu will do the same thing.
Btw, if you're using cm7 or cm9, the reboot into recovery option is listed in the Reboot option in the power menu.
Or if you're using MIUI (1.11.25 build), then you can either flash the Extended Settings mod that other people have mentioned, or flash this mod that just modifies the power menu:
I don't have a reboot to recovery option in my CM7 power menu; I do have the confirmation box disabled, if that's where it is. (I loathe "Are you sure?" prompts.)
I almost used it for backup/restore but since CWM makes it so easy to do a cold backup, there isn't much point.
I'm with you in that if it isn't used, get rid of it!

Hope someone can save me some research time but has anyone been able to get Windows to recognize the Triumph why in CWR, if our CWR even supports it, not sure about that. I have been doing a lot of init.d script testing and just mounting system and swapping out the file with ADB would be a lot less time consuming then restoring a backup every time I get stuck in a boot loop. Sorry if anyone has previously answered this question.

I'm not sure exactly why the MT doesn't recognize adb and mounting the usb in cwm. All of the code needed "seems" to be there the last time I looked into it.
However, for your situation, I would recommend that you just make a flashable zip with the original files to undo everything if needed and keep that on your sdcard so if you bootloop, you can just boot back into cwm and flash the "undo" zip file. This is quicker than having to restore the whole ROM. That's what I do when I'm testing out mods like you're doing.

Can the usb mounting in the recovery be set to diag. mode? I've found keeping it that way via anycut keeps me from having issues. Also, sdcard adapter and reader, then you can just unmount/mount in the recovery.

Basically what's new that I added is that this version will recognize the .no_confirm and .one_confirm files in your clockworkmod folder when you are wiping cache and/or data.
Basically, having the .no_confirm file will just do your selected action without all of those NO lines.
The .one_confirm file will have only 1 line of NO and 1 line of Yes on the confirmation screen. I recommend this if you are like me and really hate all of those No lines.
To create the file, the easiest way I found is as follows (in Windows):
1. Connect your phone to your computer via usb.
2. Mount your USB drive so it shows up in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
3. Open Notepad or Notepad++.
4. Create a new blank file.
5. Click File --> Save As and browse to the clockworkmod folder on your phone.
6. Name the file as either .no_confirm or .one_confirm -- BE SURE TO TYPE THE PERIOD IN THE BEGINNING OF THE NAME EXACTLY AS I HAVE LISTED. Also, you'll need to change the Save as type field to "All Files" so that notepad does not add an extension.
The next time that you boot into cwm and try doing an action, you should notice the confirm prompt either no longer prompting you or only having one line of NO, respectively.

Will Notepad's insistence on adding a file extension (.txt) pose a problem?

Yes. It will. I think if you change the file type to all files, it may not add the extension. I'll have to test later when I get a chance or let me know if that worked.

Can't rename the file without extension once it's on the phone, but creating a replacement with the "all files" option did sort that out.

I added a new version of CWM to the OP. The current version is 5.5.0.4. There really isn't a change log but from my observations and looking through the code, there were a few small bug fixes and also the background image was updated. I also included my fixes from the last version 5.0.2.8 in this.
So update if you want to, or don't if you don't.
The Zip in the OP is a flashable Zip that you can flash in cwm.

I can't mount my sdcard in recovery using this version?
When I had my Intercept, the CWM recovery we used had a passcode protection option which I noticed isn't present in the Triumph's CWM. Any way something like that could be added?
Here's a link to the Intercept recovery (it's the CM01.zip; the post is pretty disorganized).
