Default [ROM][JB][CM] Paranoid Android Ver2.53 Alpha 1 (01MAY2013)

This is totally built from source code. This is JB so a lot of stuff is not working yet. Also expect another version of this. The whole source code has not been released, and they have two versions, CM and AOSP. I am working on AOSP as we speak. This is just to give you guys a taste of Jellybean.

THIS IS AN ALPHA RELEASE EXPECT THINGS NOT TO WORK!

After spending some time trying to set up the repo for the source code, I found that I was using a few wrong repos because of the switch PA made when they rearranged everything. The CM version got abandoned and this is the actual CM version 2.53 instead of 2.99. Everything is set up and ready to build. Source can be pulled with code below.

General info:
To be honest, this is not tablet mode at all, it has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks.

This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode.
This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even systemcomponents individually.
Remember, android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigationbar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course.
Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on.
This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better.
Paranoid Android - Home
https://github.com/ParanoidAndroid/android

Triumph specific:

https://github.com/MT-ParanoidAndroid/android

repo init -u git://github.com/MT-ParanoidAndroid/android.git -b cm_jellybean

Thanks to isaacj87, Tickerguy, Whyzor, mantera, g60madman, rukin5197, and anybody else that was involved with Triumph developement. Thanks to the whole Cyanogen Mod team, and the Paranoid team.

I'll update with more info in time, just need to figure out how things are running. There is just too much for one person to test, so let me know how it goes.

INSTALLATION:
If you have never flashed a ROM before, follow these instructions.

If you are on a rooted ROM, it would make it easier to transition, if you backup all of the apks in data/app with a root explorer. Then you don't have to download them and you can just install them from any file manager.

For those that have CWM or TWRP Recovery already installed follow these steps

1. Backup
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Flash Rom
4. Flash Symlinked Gapps for JB
5. Reboot

6. Enjoy

pa_triumph-2.53-01MAY2013-183418:
Second release.
Changes:
First boot may get stuck, it is the graphics driver, I just use adb reboot and it works fine, you should be able to pull battery and should boot fine after that.
Wifi saves password and reconnects after sleeping.
Other fixes across the board.

Not working:
3G
GPS?
HDMI
Camera will NOT preview but will take pics
Video does not record or play
to be continued...

pa_triumph-Alpha-2.53-01MAY2013-183418.zip

Old Builds:

calitrippin, RolaAddict and mstech like this.

Ok, threw this on (making a nandroid backup of the last one), it looks nice. Seemed to want me to login to Google twice. Have setup setting to Phablet to see when it was like.

Mobile data seems not working
Wifi works, but doesn't auto save settings so doesn't reconnect.
SMS Test worked (out and back)

It's currently downloading 73 apps from Google. This could be interesting.

wow bsydz excellent work! were you able to put this 3g fix into place: androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/606349-rom-mtdev-cm10-build-20120825-alpha-3.html#post5215348

EDIT: I tried it, did not fix 3g

Camera works similarly to how it does in CM9.

Glad to see another JB ROM out. I really hope we can fix the WiFi issue because it's getting on my nerves. Has a real weird error in logcat as well..

But glad to see you get this out and running!

Try Silent Camera app from play market.I used it on CM9 and it is saving my pictures but only when I use serial shot.If I use it any other way it force closes and can't be used again til reboot.

My goodness the devs for triump,h are great first we we get the camera real close to working then we get paranoid ics and jb roms I'm happy to have my triumph and the devs for it. I was getting scared at the loss of devs and the slow in development, so much so I started learning to develope myself. Which I'm almost to the point I could start contributing to the community. That's a good thing but even better is the renewed vigor I see in MT development.Im pretty happy with my phone and until I can afford another 300 dollar phone it will serve me fine especially for 25 a month. I've put my phone side to side with newer "better" phones and see very little to run out and pay for. I'm sorry I ranted off topic a bit but this past week has made a flash junky like myself very happy. I love having something new and exciting to play with. THANKS GUYS.....

all over really..android development and source pages , Java and their tutorials , all kinds of threads on the development and general sections of xda forums , and all kinds of pages I ran across on google .. I did a lot of researching
and searching some more, and tons of reading. I suppose the first thing I would suggest is reading on how to setup your android development kit or sdk, and start looking for tutorials it depends how far you wanna go. You can learn Android Java c++ and any other programming languages you get interested in if you really want get into it but it takes time and patients . If you need more info there's general sections here to ask and others will know more than me or pm me and I'll answer what I can and point you to some links

wow thanks for giving us a taste of a new rom! I've been running it for about a day so far and the only problem that i found that others aren't reporting is how it displays the multitasking cards. Thanks again for all your hard work BSydz.

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I just don't have time to test everything, so this is a great help. So not working seems to be wifi saving passwords, 3G, video playback, and the multitasking icons not filling. I now there are a lot of other things not working with the UI but right now I need hardware feedback. I think PA switched gears to AOSPA which is based off stock android code, so I have been working on that version but it is a pain switching from CM to AOSP, so I haven't even got a full build yet. But this can help with CM10 in general, just knowing what hardware works and what doesn't. CM10 is more complete UI wise, so some of the PA stuff may not work. Thanks again.

This ROM rocks!!It's running smooth as of now.So far no 3G,no wi-fi tethering(couldn't use anyways without the 3G),video doesn't work (Download MX Player and use S/W codec for most videos),camera previews but doesn't save (like in CM9 use 3rd party app),and headphones don't work. This is all I found.Calls work, bluetooth works, apollo music works,wi-fi works but won't save passwords. If I find more I'll post. Also used Skype and for some reason I got logged out.I had let it set there without using it while logged in.I'll keep an eye on that too.Anyways great work!!!If you fix the 3G I will make this an everyday ROM

ok my triumph isnt activated so i cant test 3g speeds, but the rom is is very snappy and after modding the build prop( VM heap is at 96m)and ROM Toolbox app(cache from 128k to 1024k) this feels like a brand new phone! and the UI speed matches my sisters Samsung Reverb running ICS!! im very impressed with this ROM...now im going on a bug hunt

Is it possible to update this to PA 3.1? I would really like to have some of PA's new features on my Triumph.

I want to help test ROMs like this, and even do development myself. Can someone give me any advice on how to get started? With this ROM, preferably (gotta get my Jelly Beans for Easter!).

When PA made the switch to Jellybean, they started with CM10 as a base but later decided to go pure AOSP, and abandoned this branch. That is why I put CM in the title. I have pulled the source for PA AOSP, but haven't got around to it yet. If you want to look at the paranoid github, it is here: https://github.com/ParanoidAndroid/android, there are 3 branches cm_jellybean, ics, and jellybean. I wasn't able to pull the ICS branch when I tried, as they moved some of the files to github. But I believe that the two JB repos should work.

There are guides all around these forums and the net, search for android build environment, and check out these threads:

Yet another "How-to" build, MTDEV style

Developer's tips and tricks

I will push my changes for the Triumph to my github sometime in the next few days, I have to make sure it will build and boot. Or you can get the device files from mantera or MTDEV-CM10, just search for those names and github, should be in the first few results. Good luck.

As much I would like to contribute, I can't due to technical specifications. My Triumph has more capabilities in it's hardware than the computer I use, with the exception of RAM. Since it's a friend's computer, I can't install Ubuntu on it.

It's all good, it was just an overly technical answer, just in case somebody was wondering.

Well if there was a way that I could go into the zip file and fix the 3G without having to make a build I would cause that's the only MAJOR issue with this ROM.The other bugs are annoying but not a killer to the ROM.

I agree, if even 3G was working I'd be using this as a daily. The prime things I need in my phone are the actual phone calls working, 3G, and MMS. The other bugs in this ROM aren't too bad, but are surely annoying.

Yeah well if someone lost service with Virgin Mobile and wanted to use the phone as a tablet this ROM would be great for that.

BSydz, is this in the 'jellybean' branch of your PA git repo? I see a 'cm_jellybean' in one of them... I think the 3g issue needs some attention.

As of now ... yes. Man it is a pain setting up a repo. The last build is built with the source from the repo, it can be found in the OP. MT-ParanoidAndroid cm_jellybean

On a side note I got the M410 kernel fully functional with CM9 the no preview was because of the pmem. The only issue with it is it drops signal, so @jhonka232 the signal drop is the kernel.

So ... , who wants some Jellybeans? ...

First boot may get stuck, it is the graphics driver, I just use adb reboot and it works fine, you should be able to pull battery and should boot fine after that.

PA CM JB:
pa_triumph-Alpha-2.53-01MAY2013-183418.zip

CM10:
cm-10-Alpha-20130501-UNOFFICIAL-triumph.zip

PAC-man JB:
triumph_PAC_JB_4.1.2-v19.3.0-Alpha.zip

Let me know what you think.

Flashed, the phone is a joy to use! So smooth, touchscreen is super-responsive...It's awesome.

Bugs, which you probably already know about:
No 3g
Camera has no preview, but takes pictures and flash works
Switching to FFC throws a "Cannot Connect to Camera" Error

o.o, the camera can take photos now?
Oh boy oh boy oh boy
As soon as this gets 3G working, and I get a better job, I'm donating to the MTDevs.
