I loved Married With Children when it was on, but it just doesn't stand the test of time to me the way a show like Cheers does.

Arrested Development
Seinfeld
Mad Men (favorite alltime show)
The Sopranos
Friday Night Lights
Top Gear (UK of course)

You said top 6 right? Also, I can already tell Game of Thrones will be knocking somebody out of my top 6 in a few years.

Edit: WTF? I am the only person that listed Mad Men? I don't normally do this, but people you need to drop whatever you're doing and spend the next few days watching every episode.

Wow! Only ONE person mentioned Doctor Who in this whole thread and that was only as an "honorable mention?" You folks need to turn in your Geek Cards!

Okay... my top five:

1. Doctor Who
2. Firefly
3. LOST (probationary and only if you forget the final season)
4. Arrested Development
5. The IT Crowd

Lots of folks put up some really great shows on their lists that I haven't thought about in years but were really great shows in their time.

If you love Arrested Development you really need to check out Soap.

Barney Miller, Cheers and 24 were really good series also.

And M.A.S.H. - that was great television there.

@Fetch Questman; I haven't seen Mad Men. I've heard lots of good about it so maybe one of these days I'll find the time to get in on it. I just gotta have time to take it in from Season one episode one until the present. I hate entering a series in the middle of things.

Doctor Who is my all time favourite show and now my 11 year old son is a fan as well.

And LOST did not make my top five because of the way it ended... Same goes for The X-Files.

Parks and Recreation Ron Swanson and Andy Dwyer are hilarious. The show has a lot of great cast members and it's just enjoyable.

Childrens Hospital I haven't laughed this hard a show in a long time. I love the cast; they're a very funny bunch. I can't wait for more!

Tim and Eric: Awesome Show Great Job It took a few viewings before I really got into it but now it's one show that I can watch over and over again.

Workaholics This is another great comedy. It keeps me laughing.

Nip/Tuck For some variety, I'll throw in this great show. It had awesome music, gripping story lines, and a great cast. I miss it quite a bit.

Some other favories include:
Eastbound & Down
Party Down
Psych
Monk
Criminal Minds
30 Rock

Does anybody remember watching "Fawlty Towers" with John Cleese?

I just had a flashback down memory lane, I remember watching this show back in the 80s when we were living in Reading, UK ... So so funny
