Anybody watching the premiere of Falling Skies on TNT? It seems pretty good so far. It kinda reminds me of The Walking Dead but with aliens instead of zombies.

I am watching. Reminds me of Jeremiah with Luke Perry. So far I like it.

Nothing special to me. Lots of special effects little substance. The preview after the show looks like things might get better substance wise, but I don't know. Feels more like survival fiction than science fiction to me...

With a tv series, you always have to give the characters a chance to grow. There's not much on tv worth watching, so its cool to at least have something new on thats halfway decent.

I agree with above: The pilot looked great, but substance-wise it fell a little flat for me. I'll give it a chance because there's really not much I like on TV these days, and hope things get more interesting.
I've been interested in watching it, but missed the pilot. I'm sure I'll catch it, though. It's worth a shot, but I don't know if it'll grip me enough.

Not sure I'm even gonna open this can of worms... might just delete it from DVR... maybe i'll wait till this weeks episode though, see what is said... meh
I watched it and it's somewhat interesting but not good. I'll give it another chance before forming an opinion.
It does have a few attractive women in it though.
Second week was ok. It's worth watching, but nothing groundbreaking. I can see it getting better over time as there are a lot of characters to get to know.

After watching the 2-hour pilot and this past week's episode I haven't quite made up my mind. I know the commercials try and bill it as some spectacular event and different from all the shows that it could be lumped in with as similar but I haven't gotten that sense yet.
I do applaud TNT for televising a show that is outside their usual summer schedule in that it's not a cop (The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles, Memphis Beat, Southland), thief (Leverage), medical (HawthoRNe), or legal (Franklin & Bash, sort of) show.
I stated in the thread on what makes a good tv show that there are far too many cop, legal and medical shows on television and there is a void for something different. My main concern right now with Falling Skies is the likelihood they can keep the show fresh and interesting over several seasons without revealing too much too soon. On the flip side, if things move too slowly will enough people tune in?
I'm enjoying it so far. The end of the second episode does tweak my interest to see where they go...Like others have said, it's different from other summer boring tv, so I'll stick with it.
The special effects are abysmal. Nothing about the aliens really makes me feel that they are actually there. I realize this is lower budget than, say, independence day, but seriously, I don't feel immersed. The story is a good one, I just wish things looked more real than they actually do.

Agreed about the special effects. I've seen worse though (The remade V for example).
The story has been good so far, there are certain parts I find quite cheesy like the fact the main guy is constantly dropping some sort of war based history trivia, but I've enjoyed so far.
Never saw it to be honest, though I am fairly sure it died after one season.
I am guilty of liking "one season wonders" though. Flash Forward is my most recent. Still don't honestly see why that one failed. Maybe people felt it was going nowhere. Might have been beter suited for a miniseries. Just wish it didn't end the way it did.

2, but they were both pretty short

Flash Forward sounded brilliant, but I never bothered with it because it lasted a season. There are loads of shows that need to be given time to develop, but they're never given the chance.
The 2 hour season finale was tonight. After watching the first season, my opinion is pretty much the same as it was after the first couple of episodes-worth watching but not all that. I wouldn't consider buying the DVD or Blu-Ray, put it that way. I was kind of surprised that they are already making the second season. I figured it might be one and done, but apparently the ratings were good enough to justify a season 2. All that said, I'll probably be watching when it returns next summer. Any opinions now that season one is in the books?

The way I saw it was the rating were good enough to justify the hype for the 2-hour season finale, which I personally found disappointing.
I have seen all the episodes from Season 1. I used to pay close attention the first few episodes but to be honest...the show just started getting boring.
The finale was HYPE AND HYPE AND HYPE...and it was just disappointing.
So much dialogue and not enough action.
I'll watch it Season 2 just because nothing good ever comes on in the summer but i was just overall disappointed with the finale.
I actually was pretty happy with the finale. Some interesting plot twists here and there. I just hope they get to tell the whole story before it gets canceled, as seems to happen with so many shows these days.
The finale would have been much better if there was not so much exposition
and there were so many key scenes they could have shown instead of just
explaining what happened.
i wonder did their budget run out by the end of the season.

There was one episode i think it was called "Mutiny" where it seriously just a bunch of talking and took place in two rooms of the school. At the end of that one I was left thinking...Nothing happened, the show is in the exact same place as it was before this episode. I guess Spielberg wasted his SFX budget and needed to fill out the season.
I will admit some of the story elements are getting good, I like the new aliens a lot, but I always thought the whole taking the children thing was a cheap attempt to get some emotional distress in there. Hopefully it turns out to be something more interesting.
But the biggest gripe i have is with the characters....They're sooooo boring! Pope is the only exception, he's the only one that shows any signs of life. But for all I know they are supposed to be boring because they are average Janes and Joes, and the show is trying to be realistic (because lets face it. normal people are boring). And I thought Noah Wyle was supposed to be some kind of history professor and use his epic professor knowledge about the history of warfare to help fight the aliens... That would have been awesome and educational plus make his character less effective as a sleep aid.
The season finale will have me coming back for more. I kinda liked it, except for that RIDICULOUS shot with the rpg, that was BS.
Yeah the characters are rather boring. The only thing that makes the characters interestign is the harnessess on the kids. Now that actually was kind of interesting.
But Pope and the harnessed kids aside, the rest of the characters just are...boring.
I just watched the show because not much else is on on Sundays. LOL
Just saw the preview for season 2. I'm kinda surprised they actually made a second one, but the preview looked pretty good. Hopefully they learned some lessons from the first one and will make this season a little more interesting. Not that the first season was terrible, just kind of meh.

Love the show, we're currently rewatching the first season to get into it... the Only thing I disliked is the time between the seasons, good lord it seems like 2 years ago when we watched that season

I agree. We are about to watch again before season two starts
