Default Who seen The Hunger Games? Possible Spoilers

I thought The Hunger Games was interesting; I do look forward to the sequels. Jennifer Lawrence was gorgeous lol. Overall the movie can compete with Avatar, but in a different league.

What did you think?

I'm going to try and read the books first. I just bought the trilogy for around $3 from Kobo

Not bad. Reading the books for me would ruin it because I would be analyzing the film to see what changes. I would also know what is going to happen which would ruin it for me.

I'm going to see this tonight. I read the books last week. I thought the books were pretty good, not great. There is the aspect in the books with the girl being confused by her feelings for two boys. At first I cringed thinking they would try to play that up in the movie but from the reviews I read, that doesn't seem to be the case.

In my opinion the movie is overdramatic...i've heard the books where pretty good though (before it was even planned to be a movie)

Went to see it Sunday and thought it was actually really good. Jennifer Lawrence is awesome. (check out Winters Bone, she's amazing in it) It stayed pretty close to the book, but having read it I think added some deeper context to the movie. Anybody who liked the book should be more than satisfied with the film.

I thought the movie was great! And Jennifer Lawrence wasn't hard to look at

I definitely wanna go back and read the book now though as well. Plus reading it now might be nicer because I'll know what everything is supposed to look like as I'm reading.

I read all the books, and I liked the movie well enough...I just feel like they left a lot of important details out that would've made the movie much better.

I think they spent too much time filling in the blanks of what wasn't in the books. The book series is all from Katniss's point of view and the movie shows more of the bigger picture. Personally, I think they went too far in that respect. Yeah, it was cool to see how the games were operated but I think they left out too many things from the books which usually happens with novel based movies.

I don't think this example is a huge or pivotal spoiler but the dress made for Katniss to wear in the capital was awesome in the book. I thought it looked lame in the movie though. You'd think if you're making a movie you'd try to spend some time and money on the more visual aspects of the book you're basing the movie on.

I think they did a pretty good job with the dress lol.
It was already a long movie, and they can only fit so much stuff in. I do think reading the book first gives you a deeper perspective when you see the movie, but that's to be expected. That being said, my sister watched it without having read the book and didn't have any trouble getting into it or understanding what was going on. I think this is one of the rare instances when I actually liked the movie better than the book, mostly because of the great performance by Jennifer Lawrence. I am sad to hear they have hired a different director for the second movie, allegedly because the studio wants to rush it out and they wouldn't give him the time he felt he needed to make it the right way. I don't like the sound of that.

Yeah, I thought it would be a lot less...'Brutal?'...for a 12/PG? But yeah, not bad.

Considering the age group it was written for, I'm not at all surprised. My 11 y/o daughter really wants to read the books/watch the movie but I just don't think she's ready yet. When it comes to material of this nature it's up to us parents to decide what's best for our kids.

That said, I loved the books and the movie was pretty well done. I didn't find it as brutal as the book, yet it managed to retain core message and emotions very well.

I agree about the perspective. That was one of the qualities I liked about the book was they really pulled off it all taking place in the 1st person. The Katniss in the movie just isn't as interesting other than the fact shes easy to look at.

I thought the dress was ok it represents burning coal. Im a guy so didn't really get into all the hair and make up in the books.

Just saw it a week ago, and I found out that this movie was very good to watch, it was interesting and the story line was different. But one thing I must mention here that despite of all the positive points it has, the movie is not memorable, just like The Amazing Spiderman was a treat to watch, but the film is not memorable. Both these films won't be remembered after a few months, unless their sequels come.

I just now saw this thread bumped and had to straighten one thing out.

I'm a guy as well.

What I was getting at was the fact that some parts of the book are so descriptive it seemed almost a crime to not try a little harder to get it on the screen. It looked like a boring black latex outfit. They spent so much time on an impromptu funeral for a character I don't think they got the audience to have an emotional investment in. Just seemed to me there were a few misses but overall it was a good movie.

Now excuse me while I enjoy my breakfast of a bloody rare steak, scotch and cigar while reeking of engine grease and motor oil and complaining about the cut rate replacement refs screwing up this NFL season.

I couldn't agree more and that's coming from a tried and true Bears fan. There hasn't been a single game this season that the refs haven't screwed up. The Green Bay, Seattle game was just the worst of a long series of bad calls.

it is so obvious this season.

There was a big buzz about this movie, some friends recommended it, and it is the kind a of movie I like to watch.

Still, when I watched it, I thought every single aspect of it was pretty lame: acting, story, special effects, directing, etc.
Most elements of the movie were out-of-place and pretty much point-less.
The story was also weak, predictable and overall unimpressive, the ending was kind of boring also. Some things were unnecessarily over dramatized and some cool elements of the story were under-explored.

There is a movie with a very similar premise and setting called "Battle Royalle", it's old and under-budgeted, but it's much better executed than "Hunger Games" I think.

I thought some of the acting was good. Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress. The little girl who got killed (can't remember the name), she was good. The guy who played Peetah, ok he was pretty lame lol.

I found myself comparing it with Battle Royale all the way through the movie. It's been a while since I saw that movie but I remember it being darker and more brutal in a way that reminded me of Stephen King's brilliant novella The Long Walk.
