Default Most Over Rated Movie

This is a spin off of another topic "Most Under Rated Movie"

Avatar. Great visuals, granted, but for me that doesn't compensate for cardboard cutout "characters" and a cliche-storm of anvilicious "humans are horrible" "plot".

Really? I thought it was AMAZING. Then again, most people love Pulp Fiction. I think it's a giant turd.

Spiderman 3 was way way way over rated. The dance number was enough to make me never watch again.

Forrest Gump. I really hated that movie and it is like 5 hours long, that is a lot of bad movie right there.

Its not at all though. I think we are now all "pre-conditioned" to look for twists in a movie. I found it predictable. The idea was good but it was poorly executed. At best, I can only describe it as "Meh". A contrived attempt.

I'm going to take a lot of heat for this, but I have to say The Dark Knight. It wasn't terrible, but it was just a typical action movie to me. If Heath Ledger hadn't died, I don't think it would have gotten so much attention. IMO, those over the top performances are the easiest thing for an actor to do. Also, the whole end section with Two Face felt tacked on and unnecessary. This is coming from someone who liked Batman Begins a lot, likes the director a lot, and likes Christian Bale a lot. (check out his performance in The Mechanic if you haven't seen it). I just don't see the worship for The Dark Knight being justified. Overrated.

Also, "Precious" was terrible.

The Piano.

I remember all the critics falling all over one another to praise this movie. To listen to them, this was probably one of the greatest movies ever made. So, I went to see it. It was crap. That's not really a fair statement, I suppose; as anything that rises to the level of being “crap” doesn't deserve the insult of being compared to this movie.

American Beauty received similar praise from the critics. So eventually, I saw it. It wasn't nearly as bad as The Piano, but it certainly fell very far short of all the praise that it received.

I suspect that there is something that sometimes happens among movie critics, similar to the principle in the classic tale of The Emperor's New Clothes; wherein a movie comes out, that is mediocre at best, and in some cases, just plain bad, but some highly-respected critic likes it, and gives it a highly positive review, after which other critics are afraid to contradict that first critic, for fear that their own credibility will be damaged if they don't agree with the first one; in much the same manner as all the foolish people in The Emperor's New Clothes who praise the nonexistent clothes, fearing that if they admit that they don't see the clothes, just the emperor standing naked before them, that they will be branded as stupid or incompetent.

I will agree being overrated but to me, it was Christian Bale playing Batman overrated.
Heath Ledger made the movie, as a matter of fact i was rooting for him through out the movie.

The most overrated movie are:-

1. The English Patient (1996)

2 Blade Runner (1982)

3 No Country for Old Men (2007)

I think all highly rated movies are overrated to somebody. They're usually good movies though.

I agree with most comments. Maybe I think most movies are overrated.

For me The Dark Knight is overrated, particularly because of the 9+ rating on IMDB. As already mentioned I think it's a case of the emperor's new clothes. Yes, Heath Ledger was great, but the film is flawed. Nolan shouldn't have crammed two stories into the one film. It is weakened by the secondary Two Face plot. I liked Batman Begins better. It's a complete stand-alone movie that isn't weakened by being an origins film, where something like Iron Man was.

The Dark Knight is still a good film, mind. Part of one of the best franchises ever.
