#1 Wiping the phone doesn't mean to lose the gapps, just the configurations.

#2 Installing the gapps on a rom that lacks them is pretty easy rightnow

#3 personally, although my two main mailboxes are both managed by gmail, I don't mind to use the gmail client. I access them via the exchange protocol and the email app, better if the cyanogen style email client: custom color for each mailbox, availability of a single place to read the email from multiple mailboxes, etc... (that mail client is included in the ROM i published, but you can get it from any cyanogen 7 ROM)

There are users who have commented on their site that they were unable to add gmail accounts themselves, and I don't have the technical experience to know how Etotalk have done it.

I had the same issue when i got my phone. Wasn't sure about deleting the gmail account as i wasn't sure what would happen if i did. i got fed up getting email notifications and restored the phone to default. once the phone rebooted i had to setup my own gmail account and everything worked fine. all the google apps were still there and working.

Also in reply to the sim1 3g not working mines is i have my meteor sim in slot 1 and the 3g works fine on it

I contacted a TaoBao agent and he told me this

"the seller told me they don't support cracking for Europe use, because they found that the system wasn't stabilized after cracked, and there were customer service problems.and now they cancel this kind of service."

in your opinion, is it true?

is it difficult to settle as WCDMA?

Thank you

Lorenzo

I know what Meteor is. It's an EUROPEAN provider who use the WCDMA network, how is possible it is working using the TD-SCDMA slot ?

Is something like putting gasoline on a diesel car.

Afaik the WCDMA bandlock is only for the chinese territory, I'm not sure if there is an additional sim lock on sim 1.

It's note easy to have this info, as all the seller are located in china and consequently they are affected by the WCDMA lock.

Default data access problem

1) I have the problem that after some time the data access over the mobile network is no longer possible. After turning on the phone I can use the 3G data transfer. But after some time (and switching the data access on and off as needed) it no longer turns on the data access. Rebooting the phone or selecting anew "preferred network" as network operator solves the problem.
Anybody already had this problem? How to solve it?
I am still on Etotalk's B13 V.1.4.

so, if i want to buy a zte U960 by TaoBao, a cheaper one than Etowalk version, what must I ask to the TaoBao's supplier?

It must be unlocked.........but unlocked to use WCDMA or not? Only two GSM lines?

What does it mean "unlocked"?

Only unlocked by Unicom or something else?

Thank you

Default How to flash ROM?

I want to give The Solutor's ROM a go but I never flashed a ROM before. What is the best way to do it? Is there a program to backup my current ROM (Etotalk v.1.4) and install the new one?

Thanks

With the included recovery (you need to install it only once, if not already installed)

Is there a program to backup my current ROM (Etotalk v.1.4)

You can backup and restore the whole phone with the recovery (some thing of Norton gost, or acronis drive image on PCs) and/or use titanium backup from android to restore just the data and the downloaded apps (something like the windows backup program).

IMO is better to backup in both ways to be more sure and to have two different way to restore.

I believe there isn't a good way rightnow, likely they just don't know exactly how (and if) the phone is locked.

Quote:

That's the problem, there are a number of different possible locks on phones, and a phone can be locked in one or more ways.

#1 SIM lock: the phone will accept only one SIM

#2 Operator lock: the phone will accept all the SIMs from a specific provider, is the more common kind of lock

#3 Band lock: the phone will limit the network functionality depending on the sim inserted and/or the region.

For example: my Droid 2 Global (which is a dual standard CDMA/GSM phone ) had two kind of locks, GSM/WCDMA are working only outside the US AND the phone accepted only SIMs from Verizion.

I removed only the latter because the former doesn't affect me (I'm not in the US).

With a dual standard AND dual SIM phone the 3 kind of lock can be applied separately on the two SIMs, so both, asking the question and replying to it, are more complicated matters.

I'm sure the ZTE is band locked for WCDMA on slot 2 for chinese territory, this kind of lock doesn't affect the people living on the rest of the world.

I'm not sure if there is an additional SIM lock on SIM 1, if present this will be a problem (likely a problem easy to solve, but surely a problem).

For the record I have an updated baseband that fixes the problem with the Vodafone Italy SIMs.

I packaged it with the needed drivers and flasher SW, and I translated the instruction in (poor ) english.

Possibly that baseband could fix other network problems you may have.

Should work with any ROM.

Download U960-Fixed-Baseband.7z

Default RAM Hack

Hi all,

Found this RAM hack with a Chinese 2B03 ROM I downloaded. I have flashed it on my B13 rom (etotalk 1.4) and it seems to work fine - boosted my avalible memory (RAM) from 370 MB to 397 MB.

It can be downloaded here. Simply flash the .zip from recovery.

Note: Make sure to backup first, and apply at own risk!

Yes, still not solved.

Don't hold your breath for this, on many CDMA/GSM Motorola they aren't fixed after two years...

Tried to use Handcent. It shows sms from Raiffeisen, but it's not English letters. It's something unreadable...

Additionally, it doesn't let me choose from what sim I would like to send sms

Yes, I told before that Handcent fixes the problem completely for SIM2, and only partly for SIM1, the message from Vodafone.it are 99% correct for me, but some of them are unreadable.

I believe it has something to do with the title truncation, likely depending on the last letter the wrong character set is chosen (plain ascii, vs unicode, I mean).

Again is something that is almost surely related to the baseband, so hard to fix.

Quote:

That's easy: just let the notification disabled on default sms client, and enabled on handcent, disable also the handcents popoup

Then open the default SW when an sms is received and use it to reply (if you have to).

likely there is a better solution as there are a lot of SMS clients to experiment with but, for now, is an acceptable solution for me.

Default some help needed...

Ok, I downloaded both files from The Solutor.
U960-B13-TS-v0.1.7z.001 I extracted using 7-zip.
U960-B13-TS-v0.1.7z.002 however I cannot extract (cannot open as archive error). So, what am I doing wrong?

In the ...001 there is a recovery folder and a ROM folder. I put both on the SD card and run adb.exe?
Do I need the ...002 files?

It's a split archive, you have to place both on the same place and then extract just the first one, what's in the second will be extracted automagically.

Quote:

The update.zip file is meant to be installed from the recovery.

turn on the phone while pushing the volume+ button.

if you can see the recovery menus (in english) you have it already installed (use the install zip from SD card menu)

If you can't see anything or if you have the recovery in chinese, just install the english recovery included in my package.

Assuming you have all the drivers installed and the phone in usb debug mode, you have just to click on the .bat file.

The recovery part is a one time only operation, you install it once, you can use it anytime in the future to install any updated rom.

There is already the lenovo A750 based on the new mtk CPU, surely will be an huge upgrade if you compare it with the standard Chinese clone, or with some cheap brand offering from samsung, motorola and LG.

I dubt they will be any better than the U960.

In the best scenario just a good alternative.

Default data access problem

Alas, the data access problem persists. When data access is turned off for more than about 2 hours it won't turn back on. Only a complete reboot or re-registering on the network (by selecting network operator) will turn the data access back on.
Anybody an idea what causes this and how to solve it?

This kind of problems are often caused by baseband problems rather than Android problems.

have you updated the baseband to the latest version ?

The baseband for SIM 2 is U960V1.0.1B13W. Is this the latest version or do I need to update with your previously posted version? I thought it was for SIM 1 and not advised for newbies so I didn't do it...

This is only a row written in the build.prop file, not the real version of the installed baseband.

On some android phones the baseband is updated when the rom is updated, in the U960 it isn't.

You have to install it manually via a different procedure.

There are two updated baseband, one included in my initial package, and one released later that I posted later.

I said it's an optional upgrade, following the standard rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but if you have connectivity problems, like you said, upgrade it is worth.

The instructions in english are included on the latest I uploaded, you need an XP 32bit machine to upgrade it.

I tried to modify the boot.img to add the init.d support. I tried to unpak and repack the boot.img, but after repacking it was't work. The U960 freeze and I must take off the battery to reboot the device. I think that the problem is that repacking with the "cpio" the header of the ramdisk, it become different from the original, also repacking the original ramdisk whitout modify nothing, and trying to use the repacked boot.img with fastboot the teminal freeze.
Had someone tried to modify unpacking and repacking the ramdisk with success??? How is the right option to repack the boot.img??
Thank.

Yes, it is the kitchen, with some adjustement, that we used to try the boot.img unpack and repack, but the problem, we think, is in the repacking with the cpio ... (to repack the newramdisk and then the boot.img we must use linux ... the repack is not working on win)
If you repack the boot.img-kernel and the original boot.img-ramdisk.gz with the mkbootimg to a boot.img it is working, but if you try to repack the ramdisk with cpio to a newramdisk.gz and then the newramdisk.gz and the boot.img-kernel to a new boot.img, this one is not working ...

I tried It briefly (after some adjustments) I noticed that the included mkbootimage.exe doesn't accept the --pagesize command.

The line should be, more or less

mkbootimg --kernel boot.img-kernel --ramdisk ramdisk-new.gz --cmdline "console=ttyMSM1 androidboot.hardware=qcom" --pagesize=4096 --output boot.img

Not sure if this is the problem, but the first thing to do is surely to get a new windows executable for mkbootimage or use the linux version.

Hi The Solutor, the line is the similar to that we used, but the problem is already repacking the ramdisk with the cpio before repacking the boot.img... but Topogigi has found an other kernel that is working... when we have a few minute to spend we will try to modify the ramdisk to see if it is possible to have better perfomance, then we will tell all the news to you... Bye

Default kernel source code

I'm searching for the kernel source code ...
I wrote to ZTE asking for the kernel source code of the ZTE U960 but they answered thet they can't provide it now.
So I wrote that I think that the kernel source code need's to be on ZTE website because it's a GPL requirement! Why the kernel source code of the ZTE U960 it's not available but the kernel source code of the other phone like V55-Blade-N860 ecc. it's?
Is there someone that know if there is the kernel source code of the ZTE U960 around???

Phone just arrived ...... taken on Tao Bao intermediated MeBuyy

The phone is fully unlocked and already rooted !!!

The girl who followed me (cindy) was very kind and extremely available to all my questions and were able to not overpay for the Customs.

In the final package I paid almost 310 euros (+ 350usd shipped with UPS customs almost 40 euros).

Now the price is falling on Eto, but I think it will be lower even on Taobao. I should have saved almost 40 euros compared to the price of Eto (when I ordered it), it's okay ......

if interested, this is cindy's email and msn address : cindymebuy at hotmail.com

Hi! I have already got this phone from my post office. Do someone know how to increase volume level of earphone speaker and microphone? Does this phone have "service codes" for control volume levels? Speaker is not enough to hear the subscriber in metro.

Default new rom ...

After a few days of testing I decided to publish the modified rom.
The main changes are:
- Enabled adb unsecure;
- Enabled init.d (you can then use V6SuperCharger for example);
- Added battery indicator circle with decreases-increases in step 1%;
- Removed Chinese applications;
- Changed back to original bootlogo ZTE logo.

The Rom performs a wipe of the phone, so it is recommended to perform a backup with Titanium or similar if you need to have a successive restore.

One more question to all ZTE u960s users...
Please check if your phone have the same IMEI for 2 radio modules. I've found out via engineer mode, that SIM1 and SIM2 have the same IMEI codes.

What's up? How to change IMEIs?
