I really like the LG alarm and wanted it back. Something that I use on a daily basis. I grabed the .apk file from another rom and tried to install it through astro and it just said application not installed. So then I tried to install it through adb and I get an error: Install Parse Failed No Certificates. Can you help me out? Thanks
Edit: Nevermind, I figured out how to sign it.

Sorry it took so long to post back. Just wanted everyone to know the install went fine. I didn't hit the very top option in ROM manager (flash clockworkmod) before flashing velocity. Told you I was new It works fine now and I love it.thank you trident.
I am having a problem here. Got the original velocity installed fine (0.1) I am currently running 0.1.1 aloha, but now when i try to install 0.2 i cant get into recovery. If I reboot through rommanager it just hangs at the lg screen. If I intall the file to sd card then hold down send menu pwr to reboot inot recovery it again hangs at the lg screen. Ive let it sit 10 mins but no action so i have to battery pull then repower on to get the phone working

I liked it too and was somewhat upset when it wasn't there but Weather Widgets (yn.no) app by Thomware, available in the apps store, is a simple time and weather widget that can still access the stock alarm function from the widget itself. Also the Clock app in the Apps Drawer can also get you into the alarm clock functions. I just noticed that. I see you've got it now but maybe someone not as skilled can benefit from this.

I had the same thing happen and what I did was freak out! I just couldn't believe that I did something wrong or that I bricked my phone. i couldn't even remember how to get in to the recovery menu! I pulled the battery and then pressed call, menu, and end buttons at the same time. This enabled me to get into recovery boot. After that I was able to recover to the stock rom (always make a back-up, mine's on a separate sd card), copied the V0.2 to my sd card, went into Rom Manager, reflashed Clockwork Recovery Mod and selected "reboot into Recovery". Once it did I went through and wiped everything, data/facory reset, cache partition, went into advanced and wiped dalvik cache, hell i even wiped the battery stats (just for good measure)! once done I selected reboot recovery, again for good measure, and chose "install zip from sdcard". "Choose zip from sdcard" and selected "velocity_0.2_release.zip". After it installed everything was A-OK!!! I love this rom!!! I think where I screwed up was by trying to do just the Rom Manager install rather than from the recovery menu, mostly because I think it doesn't clear all the data and caches, specifically the dalvik cache, properly. I hope this helps you out because this rom is "awesomazing"!! All I ask is that when you get it up and going toss Trident a bone for all his hard work! Donated today myself, hope it helps with V0.3...?

Hey Trident, recently this rom started becoming reallly slow on my phone. I don't get any Force Close errors, but its been lagging pretty bad. What do you suggest?

bugs
I have to say that this is a great rom. Never before have I had such responsiveness on my phone. That being said, there are a couple of bugs I have noticed, both of them really minor. The first one I noticed is when the music player app is going, I can't read the artist or song name when I pull down the status bar. The other thing is the battery indicator seems to be stuck at 60 percent. It may just be a glitch, I will see after my phone gets plugged in and charges a bit.
All in all though it is damn amazing, and I have no real problems with anything. Thanks for the hard work on a great rom
I'm somewhat confused by this 2.1 update. I saw this and maybe I'm just clueless but I have no idea what this time table is supposed to convey:
"SW update start date: 9/17
Schedule: Day 1 - 10K, Day 2 - soak, Day 3 - hold due to weekend, Day 4 - 100K, Day 5 - 400-500K (remaining)
So by the schedule above, all Ally’s should receive updates by next Friday."
And, aybe I'm just too new to all of this but, in order to recieve the update doesn't that mean that Velocity will need updating as well? If so when does that look like that's gonna be available? If I'm being a pain I appologize it's just that I really enjoy my Ally with this ROM and don't want to have to go back to the stock ROM.

To put it simply, once you get the update don't install it. If you install it you will lose root and your custom recovery.
Now that I've stopped being lazy and made an account, I wanted to say:
Nice work on Velocity, Trident! Velocity 0.1.1 was my first custom rom. Currently running 0.2 of course. Installed both times using Rom Manager. Haven't had any problems and things are running great.

Sorry, I just read this. Didn't know if you wanted a copy or anyone else for that mater. This is a copy of the LG Alarm widget. Put it on your sd card and use astro to find it and install it. You may have to enable 'unknown sources' in applications settings to get it to install.

Not sure if this is the place for this but i wanted to share my experiences. I said to myself, "Self, V0.2 is awesome, it's fast, it's snappy, responsive, and it all works reliably but........ what about overclocking"? Drellisdee's oc kernel was what i tried to accomplish this. I backed up my current config wit Rom Manager and installing the kernel was easy, then just a couple quick tweaks through setcpu app an viola, 768mhz! So what is the overall gain here... none! I tried the highest oc setting but it kept giving me kernel panic, dropped down the 768 and was running ok but the heat from oc'ing the cpu was too much. Upset, I reflashed clockwork recovery and restored my previous configuration. I was surprised to find that V0.2 was faster in stock configuration than with the oc kernel. Great freaking ROM Trident, only thing it needs is app2sd oh and that onscreen keyboard issue with thinkfree office documents fixed but surprisingly well done none the less!

Also, every 3-4 hours of use, Activity Clock has to force close. (clicking wait, causes the phone to freeze). After force closing, the phone runs sluggish until a restart
Hmm.... is there a "Install Velocity" for Dummies thread? I think I need one. I am too afraid to attempt installing this because I have no idea what half the terms mean
It's getting really annoying telling this update to wait till later to install. I was reading Drellisdee's update install, has anyone else seen/done that whole process? If so could you share your experience so I know it will install the update yet keep root and Velocity (or at least the ability to reflash Velocity back to the phone) afterward. Or is a Velocity 0.2 update with this ota update included coming soon? Just hate the reminders that keep coming up screwing me up while I'm working on stuff. Thanks in advance.
I don't suppose anyone has this rom saved on their computer they could shoot to me? I tried going to the site and I keep getting an error messsage, and now I think I've flashed my phone so many times it has bits and peices of different roms. I cant even download this rom from ROM manager; on either 1 of my ally's. Both are rooted to velocity v0.1 aloha...want the new one ...PLZ help.
Yea would someone make a youtube video or something on how to flash the rom onto your phone. Compared to windows mobile this crap seems more complicated.

First things first. You need root access for a detailed list of instructions check here: How to "root" the LG Ally
Next you'll need an application called Rom Manager, this is available through the market.
Once you have root and have Rom Manager installed it's fairly easy.
1: Flash Clockwork Recovery in Rom Manager
2: Once flashed make a back up, make a back up, I can't stress it enough, make a back up!!
3: Using your computer download Velocity 0.2, here's the link: http://bit.ly/aBFm7z
4: Once downloaded move to your phones sd card, don't put it in any kind of folder, just leave it in the root directory of the sd card (ie. e:/velocity_v0.2_release.zip where e: is your sd card)
5: After it's been copied to your sd card go back into Rom Manager and select Reboot Into Recovery, this will reboot your phone into recovery mode.
6: Using your physical D pad with the keyboard slid out, select these options, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced, wipe dalvik cahce.
7: Next you hit the back button on the keyboard and select from the recovery menu "install zip from sd card", select the velocity 0.2 .zip file and watch it go.
8: After it reboots and loads up, the verizon logo splash screen won't have that red smokey animation, it will be static, meaning it just sits there, then the old "Droid Eye" logo will be animated till you get to your home screen, VIOLA, you're now running Velocity 0.2.
Hope this helps, let me know if there is a step I'm missing, I'm 99.8% sure that's that all you need though.

The key issue here right now is that Trident's web server is down. I found it on my SD card, so I'm currently uploading it to megaupload. I'm going to keep the kill download link though so it can be killed when Trident gets his server up.
EDIT: Just canceled the upload in thanks to the above post heh
OMG I'm so happy now. That was the whole problem. I guess I was downloading only bits and bytes (pun intended) of the update and it was acting really funny. It actually deleted all my previous ROM backups, had to revert to the original one I saved on the laptop to get it working.
Finally got the new ROM installed, thanks so much for getting it up and running. IM lovin it.
I just installed the Rom. it looks great; However, five minutes after i got the rom installed, the android update came. I clicked ignore it. I wasnt thinking and i went back to my old backup in order to go back to unrooted and get the update. well when i went back to my original backup, it started the update on its own. this is not what I wanted. my phone is still rooted and it is updating as we speak.
Will the Velocity 0.2 still work after the update?
will the update fail if i am still rooted?
if the update wipes my root, does dresilles universal androot still work?
From what has been discussed in the ally section of this board, if you still have clockworkmod installed on your device, it will actually block the installation when the device reboots and you can then install rooted roms again.
ok so i noticed that i have to choose to install and reboot. so if i did that, clockwork mod would actually block the update from installing?
what if i did go back to unroot and installed the update, would Velocity 0.2 rom still work?
ok thank you, it works now.
any input on what i should do about installing the update? it keeps telling me to install but i keep telling it to not install. it will get annoying. does anyone know if v0.2 will work with the update? or the universal androot?

I have just a few questions before taking the leap.
I am currently using drellisdee's 1.2.3 recovery console, do I have to switch over to rom manager to install velocity or will I be fine flashing it using drellisdee's? I tried Rom Manager/clockwork in the past and it just didn't work on my phone always crashing.
Above shows native launcher2 in the feature list, but I would assume I would still be able to use an alternate launcher like dxtop or launcherPro, is that correct?
I hear that velocity .3 is in the works, generally speaking how far along is it? If the new version has just started being coded and is a long ways off I might as well go ahead and get .2 now, but if it's right around the corner I would rather wait for it and see what it brings.
I currently use Titanium Backup would I be able to restore my 3rd party apps after applying this new rom or do I need to reinstall everything from the ground up?

I first tried the update with ROM Manager and it kept getting hung up during the first boot after the update. Fortunately, Clockworkmod Recover always let me restore the backup I made just before the attempt, so no harm done.
I then switched to the recovery console, manually cleared all the necessary caches, and applied the update from a zip file that I put on the SD. Worked like a charm.
> I would assume I would still be able to use an alternate launcher like

Yes, I switched to Launcher Pro without any trouble.
> I hear that velocity .3 is in the works, generally speaking how far along is it?
I'd also like to know that. Given how easy installing 0.2 was, I'm not concerned about doubling my effort, though.

Titanium Backup restored all my apps and settings to how I had the phone set up before the update.
The only extra step I had to take was to redo placing all the widgets on the desktop, but that was easy, too.

Yes you can flash velocity using drellisdee's recovery.
