Thanks Ken and dots, I appreciate the help. My major concern was in using romcenter but since drellisdee's will work I am good to give it a shot. Downloading as I type this.

You can still use androot after the OTA update because I just did it.
Thank you so much for this ROM. I just rooted, downloaded and installed yesterday after doing some research for a few days to make sure I understand all of this lol. I'll be sending a donation in the near future, I really appreciate all of your hard work and I look forward to future versions =)
Any chance you'll be using the kernel drellisdee released a few days ago in V0.3, Trident?
I saw that you were one of the testers for it, so I figured I'd ask!
Ok. So I'm going to try to install the stock V8 rom from Trident through Rom Manager, then do the OTA 2.1 update and afterwards, try to root and reinstall Velocity V0.2. I have everything backed up but I'm still rather nervous. I'll repost how it goes or if I have to reflash a back-up. I just can't stand being interupted anymore with the stupid update message and having to tell it to install later!! Fingers crossed!!

You can't do the update. You have a custom recovery, and that blocks the instation of the update.
Hopefully someone can give me a clue about what I may be doing wrong. I've followed the above directions .....the V2 is installed and boots fine. Problem is, the Market app icon was there but when I clicked it gave me a message it was not installed. So I pulled it up through Astro and reinstalled it...seems it did not install somewhere along the way.
So all seems fine, except my physical "End" and the physical "Home" buttons do not work?!? I did a full recovery back to stock and tried the buttons...they function fine. So I completed the process again and the same thing happened.
So iptables should work now? Im trying to use droid wall and it wont work. Can anyone else verify? I don't have unlimited data. Currently i have all data dissabled. I want to use droid wall to just enable mms.
I've been running Velocity 0.2 for about a week and a half now, and I just wanted to come in and say thanks, Trident. This really is a huge improvement on the Ally. I've finally set everything (widgets, homescreens, etc) up the way I want, and I'm able to get a lot more out of the phone than I could previously. It's responsive and stable and generally a pleasure to use.
I have noticed one or two minor glitches that I wanted to mention, in case there is anything that can be done about them for 0.3.
First, the scripts don't appear to remount /system read only, as I mentioned in the script thread. I'm not sure if you are still checking that thread.
Second, I can use the Video player app you included (and it works very well - it's one of the things I'm most happy about), but it doesn't have an icon in the Application Launcher, so I can't launch it directly. The only way I've been able to launch it is by selecting a video in ASTRO.
As I understand it, this has to do with how the app was coded (no intent filter with the android.intent.category.LAUNCHER category), so I don't think there's anything you can do about that, but I just wanted to make sure that that was expected.
Thanks again for your work on this. It's completely changed my opinion of the device.
I already tried hitting install last week ... and it did not work, but ...
I tried it again today and so far it appears to have solved the issue as I am about 45 minutes in without getting that message.
I'm not sure what I did differently this time (or last time - perhaps I flashed clockwork first or something - I know I did a ROMMan backup before).
For anyone who does try it, it will look like it is upgrading and the status bar will go 1/4 of the way and then the Android with a big ! will appear. Don't panic - just hit the power button and the clockwork recovery will appear with the option to reboot.
hi im having a problem trying to install this through the rom manager. it tells me i dont have an installed app and i need to go download it, but it keeps locking up and asking me to force close it. i went to the app market and searched it up but the extra program costs a few bucks. am i required to buy this program or is there another way to do it?
EDIT: i downloaded the rom but im having difficulties copying it over to the root of the sd card through the adb tool. how should the command go?
adb push c:\velocity_0.2_release 'androidname' ? how do i find what the file path of the sd card in the ally is. i cant see it under my computer or anything.

Well, with all the people that are using Velocity, I was hoping someone could answer these questions or send me in the right direction. I've PM'd Trident a few days back with no response as of yet. Does anyone have any input on this or should I just wipe the Velocity and go back to stock and give up on it?

Did you try re-flashing a fresh download a velocity v0.2? Also are you flashing with clockwork? I've talked to various people that have encountered various errors with clockwork.

As i've said before clockwork has caused issues before with various things. Maybe you should flash drellisdee's recovery and then try re-flashing Velocity.
Skater, here's a description of what it's doing (or not doing in this case..)...
My physical "End", "Send" and the physical "Home" buttons do not work, Also the "end" button wont make the phone go into sleep mode so I have no way to shut the phone down other then a battery pull. I did a full recovery back to stock and tried the buttons...they function fine.
It was flashed once with Clockwork, then back to stock after it showed these issues...then I dropped the V.2 zip directly into the SD card....still doing the same thing. And yes, I cleared both the cache and dalvik cache.
We have 3 of these phones...one is my wifes and 2 are my employee's phones. I did the exact procedure using rom manager/clockwork on my wifes phone first and it worked perfect with no issues at all. I tried one of my employees phones a day later and I have what I explained above.
The only difference is I did my wifes phone prior to the update...and my employee's phone was after the update.
I flashed this for the first time yesterday from stock, and now i have to manually sync my gmail, although in the changelog it states that the sync bug has been fixed. Any ideas?

Yes you have to be rooted, so you can flash custom recovery image, make a backup of your stock rom, then wipe data/cache/dalvik cache, then flash velocity.
See this site for alot of info on what your asking Android Ally
Come back to IRC if you have any more questinons (you only stayed for 2 minutes. ) or just reply here.

First things first. You need root access for a detailed list of instructions check here: How to "root" the LG Ally
Next you'll need an application called Rom Manager, this is available through the market.
Once you have root and have Rom Manager installed it's fairly easy.
1: Flash Clockwork Recovery in Rom Manager
2: Once flashed make a back up, make a back up, I can't stress it enough, make a back up!!
3: Using your computer download Velocity 0.2, here's the link: http://bit.ly/aBFm7z
4: Once downloaded move to your phones sd card, don't put it in any kind of folder, just leave it in the root directory of the sd card (ie. e:/velocity_v0.2_release.zip where e: is your sd card)
5: After it's been copied to your sd card go back into Rom Manager and select Reboot Into Recovery, this will reboot your phone into recovery mode.
6: Using your physical D pad with the keyboard slid out, select these options, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced, wipe dalvik cahce.
7: Next you hit the back button on the keyboard and select from the recovery menu "install zip from sd card", select the velocity 0.2 .zip file and watch it go.
8: After it reboots and loads up, the verizon logo splash screen won't have that red smokey animation, it will be static, meaning it just sits there, then the old "Droid Eye" logo will be animated till you get to your home screen, VIOLA, you're now running Velocity 0.2.
Hope this helps, let me know if there is a step I'm missing, I'm 99.8% sure that's that all you need though.

I wish I read this before taking 30 minutes to figure this out myself. Can we get this on the OP?
Also I got the options to "Wipe data and cache" or something along those lines. I didn't get different options to clear cache, dalvik cahce, etc. It might be from a new version of Rom Manager (since it was touch screen options). But everything seemed to work.
It's funny, somehow after I posted about it not syncing, it started to sync often, I can see the arrow-circle in the note bar a lot now...i'm not sure why the first 12 or so hours after the flash that it didn't want to sync
I'm very familiar with flashing ROMs on my Droid with Clockwork Recovery, is there anything different I should be aware of with an Ally?
I tried hitting install last week ... and it did not work..

It's not all that different. Just follow the steps I've listed above and you should be fine.
Is it possible to add the lg calendar widgit back? Can I do it through the Terminal Emulator?
If you deleted via Trident's scripts, yes. Just have -cp instead of -rm. The other way is a little more complicated, and I don't feel like typing right now.
Folks, I do NOT proved support via the Private Messaging system. Please post anything you need help with in the forums.
Thanks!
Trident, I did post questions here...still waiting for a reply from you if you get a free moment. As of now I have non functioning hard keys on one of my work phones.
