yeah i wiped the cache before i flashed the baseband but you have to do it afterwards. thanks.
I'm having the same problem not being able to download from the Market. I wiped the cache partition and dalvik cache both before and after the baseband update. Any ideas?
Would it be possible for someone to mirror this in a format that can be downloaded straight to the phone. Or explain why rom manager gives me an error when I try to download roms through there? "Error processing the list of roms" or something. Thanks.
Thanks Trident, I had to reroot and then do the recovery for it to work!
I have another question though, its states that this rom has Netfilter Support and that IP Tables Enabled, yet I cant use wireless tether from the market - isnt that whats required? What do these two things allow me to do that the stock rom doesnt?
I recently install Velocity 0.3 +GNM_TURBO JIT + OC and totally love it. I do have a quick question though, see all these apps listed but I see no icons for them how would I go about getting the flashlight app, the tethering, rom manager, and astro?

Thanks for making such a nice ROM! I upgraded my girlfriend's LG Ally last night. I blogged about it here: Wrightrocket: LG Ally ROM Update. Benchmarks for the ROM itself did not show improvement, but after loading the Turbo kernel, wow! Quadrant scores went up about 14% and Linpack scores went up about 70%!
I don't get this. when you flash new roms and stuff, where does all the other stuff go? my phone was acting up and I formatted my memory card then followed death2all's thread on flashing back to stock. I flashed back to the stock recovery, waited for my updates then re-rooted and went back to v0.3. I didn't have to flash the baseband because when I went to phone info, it was there. I thought maybe it was in the rom that way and waited for errors with the market, but never had any. now with my phone plugged into the computer, every time I touch the screen, it freaks out and jumps around (the display) and random things are activated. I can't even pull down the notifications menu. when it's unplugged, it works fine. do I have some sort of communication problem with my computer? It also does this when plugged into the wall charger, but not the car charger? can you actually format the phne and start over? It seems like bits and pieces of everything stays on the phone. Help me please.
Edit: The weird freaking out of the screen stopped for no reason I can see. I didn't change anything, but I still want to know what happens to the old stuff when you flash the new stuff.

Reason: some stuff changed
First off, when you format, everything that was on that partition gets erased. I believe that when you install a rom form recovery, it automatically formats for you, and thats why everything needs to be reinstalled. the reason you dont have to reinstall the baseband is because it is on a seperate partition; one which is not touched by the installer.
Could that partition develop problems that need to be cleaned out periodically? Because if it can be written on then there could be stuff put there that colflicts with the system...right?
Hey I'm new to rooting and just flashed velocity 0.3 and it works great but I was just wondering what the gnm turbo4 is and what a kernel is. If anyone could help me with that it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you

if one was to specifically put something there, then yes that could happen. but none of the current roms (dapper duck, velocity, raptor etc) happen to touch it as far as i know. another possibility is that the baseband is flashed into the firmware, and not the OS. a more experienced user should be able to help answer your questions better, as my answers are just theory based upon my knowledge of linux and portable systems
So it's been a little while since I've installed V0.3 without the turbo or OC kernel and there are still no problems! I can't believe how well it's all working! My sister has a Droid 2 and is jealous of how well my little Ally is running (well that and the keyboard HAHAHA)! Great job Trident! Super excited about the "Are you ready" V0.4 update, though I haven't done the back up yet, I want a class 6 SD card for V0.4. Which is why I'm writing today! I want to copy my entire sd card over to a Class 6 one but I don't know how to view the files and partitions on the sd card I have. Does anyone have a decent method for "ghosting" an SD card using windows (windows xp pro)?
I have a big problem, I installed the GNM OC Kernel and started getting constant kernel panics, and I decided to start from scratch, I had a back up from BEFORE I installed the kernel, and decided to start from scratch. I rebooted into REcovery, cleared all cashe, davik, and reinstalled Velocity, and the turbo no kernel, then the oc kernel then the stock them (i liked the white, and i found a few apps that didnt change notification text to white, so couldnt see) i restarted the system, it booted fine, IT DIDNT DO ANYTHING! same exact install was on my phone, and bam kernel panic, i reinstalled recovery, then rebooted. them i did a data wipe, and reinstalled all the above. now its in the velocity loop and wont start. I cant boot into recovery by holding send and end. what do i do?
EDIT: ## I started holding random boot combinations at boot and finally got Send, Menu and End to work! Now to see if I can get it to work right!
EDIT 2: ## The phone still gets caught in boot loop at velocity after trying again, Im going to try the working backup to see if the problem persists.
EDIT 3: ## The restore worked flawlessly, so I know I didnt cause a hardware problem. Im going to wipe the EXT partition now and see if that reso.ves the problem.
EDIT 4: ## I cant wipe the ext partition of my mem card, says /dev/block/mmcbl0p2 cant be mounted cause it exists. So it skips the format...What the heck?

Ghosting an SDcard does not work in xp. The partition you want to ghost is a ext3 partition. You may be able to use a linux live (ubuntu) cd but there is a more trusted method.
Guide to update SDcard from class 2-4 to class 6
1) Go to ROM manager and reboot to recovery or Power off phone then boot holding SEND+MENU+PWR and let go when you see LG Logo.
2) Backup your NAND and ext3 with clockworkmod NANDROID. You now have the ext3 partition backed up.
3) Goto partitions menu -> mount USB storage then backup SD card to XP then end USB mount
3) Use power button to turn off or just pull battery
4) Put SD card in
5) boot holding SEND+MENU+PWR and let go when you see LG Logo.
6) Goto Advanced -> Partition SD card (if partition setting is not there then turn off phone reinsert old sd card and use Amon-RA recovery which can be found with ROM manager)
7) Goto partitions menu -> mount USB storage then restore SD card from XP then end USB mount
8) Wipe Data/Factory reset and do advanced -> Clear Davlik cache for shits and giggles
8) Restore your NAND and ext3 with clockworkmod NANDROID. You now have the ext3 partition restored.
If you have issues or bugs then I guess you should just restore your nand with old sd card and backup apps with titanium or velocitys new app backup tool and just reinstall the rom.

I don't have nandroid as a choice I have CWR 2.5.0.5 and it offers a backup but it says it can't mount ext3.
I've downloaded some of the LG apk's that are in the OP and have tried to install them using Astro and they all come back saying application not installed. Any clues on how I can get these apk's to install?
What is more stable and has less bugs Velocity 0.3 or 0.2? I don't really care about the app2sd feature. I just want stable and no bugs for very thing to work... Also should I do turbo4 or overclock?

Make sure Settings > Applications > Unknown Sources is checked if you are trying to install from sdcard.
Yeah, I did that and still no luck. Anyone else have any suggestions out there?
The directions are in the first post, but hidden. Took me a while to notice the button that said show. Here's what you need to do:
To install these apps back to the system/app partition, simply do the following:
1. Place the desired app on the root of your SD card
2. Launch Terminal Emulator
3. Type "su"
4. Type "sys -rw"
5. Type "cat /sdcard/example.apk > /system/app/example.apk"
6. Type "sys -ro"
ok so when i try to boot into recovery to flash v .3 my phone gets stuck at the lg scree, but when i try and just regular boot, it goes right to the phone. any ideas?
I have teh same issue...did you get it figured out?
So, if I understand correctly, Velocity v.03 has a2sd built in, yes? some of my apps are installed in the a2sd partition (verified with Ti backup), my newest apps, about 30 MB have installed in internal memory.
Did I do something wrong? If I reflash the Velocity ROM will it move the currently installed apps to the a2sd partition? or do I need to install the a2sd flash from Killertones thread?
I did that. But, thank you for attempting to help.

What i have done is re-flash Velocity: cleared cache and dalvik and I wiped the ext partition. When it booted all of my apps were gone. Then i Nand restored.
I tried reflashing Velocity without clearing the sd, all apps appear, but they are still on the internal memory (verified with Ti backup).
I had the exact same problem. I couldn't get a2sd to kick in with velocity .3 and got the same error message you did. I ended up just flashing "a2sd_ally_OC.zip" which i got from another thread here and it worked great and was automatic. I'll try to dig around and find the thread I downloaded it from.

This was gonna be the next step.... very glad to hear that someone else did it and it worked.

I tried using the multi ROMs method to no avail. Ultimately i did get the apps to SD to work but I had to flash to a new ROM first, then partition the SD again, move the back up of the SD back to the card, reinstall Velocity .03, clear data and caches and ext. Thankfully, after learning a painful lesson about having backups handy (last month), i was able to download Ti backup, restore everything and all apps installed to the SD.
So far I have left the Dalvik on the internal memory as I can't see needing "more" memory on it, because i want to install apps to the SD.

After you flash it you might want to run this -
From terminal:
su
# /system/bin/a2sd cachesd
that will put the davlik cache on your sd card and free up even more internal memory. I tried it with the cache both internal and on SD and didn't see a performance difference one way or the other, so I'm keeping it on the SD card to free up the space. I also have a swap partition setup on my SD card which A2SD is apparently using automatically.
The Following User Says Thank You to dmoriarty For This Useful Post:
Did you partiton your sdcard after flashing velocity v0.3? If so thats the wrong method as i have encountered errors with downloaded apps. You should partion the sdcard before flashing velocity. You will not see the ext partiton in windows because windows does not support or use the ext file system, linux does. You will need some 3rd party program for that or install a linux distro.
...There is a free windows kernel mode driver (.."native" ext in windows) available for ext filesystems; I don't know if supports formatting, but it works great for the usual read, write, rename, etc sort of file operations (I'm a linux desktop user by default, so I use linux for formatting).
I've used it from XP and Vista, but I'm not sure about Win 7.
just flashed velocity .3 last night. checked my phones memory this morning and its showing i only have 34.71mb of internal memory available. I have a 4gb memory card in the phone that the apps should have been transfered too. how much memory does velocity take up and how much memory should i have around?
