I don't understand. You said "here's a look " but I'm not seeing any links or photos to look at???
Edit: this post was originally made from my Ally. On its screen, in Opera Mobile browser, I did not see that the word "Here" is a hyperlink. Actually, it is barely visible as such even on my PC using Firefox 4. When I still couldn't figure out where the thing was you were showing us, I hovered the mouse over each word in your sentence, and doing that picked up the hyperlink.

Sure it does! I had to tether to the computer to take the screen shots, though. So of course the percentage wouldn't show while connected to the computer.
1.2 looks great. I love the new battery icon...1.1 version is a bit hard to read. And ADW on board?! nice.
As for the Google patch that someone mentioned, I read something today that suggested the "patch" is actually being done on the server side, not to the phone OS...anyone confirm this?
On a side note, when attempting to access Google Navigation I am immediately prompted to install text-to-speech for turn-by-turn navigation, which I like. However when I click OK to install the text-to-speech I get a market screen saying no package exists. Has anyone else encountered this and more importantly know where I can get the files for voice navigation?
Not sure if anyone's responded to this yet but try the protected Apps thread I started last week in ally-all things root. Try the build.prop sdkversion edit I noted to show apparently that aren't compatible with versions of android higher than 2.2.
It's hard to share links with the phandroid app, ill post it once I'm at my pc tomorrow.
SICK! You guys work your ass off, I'll be donating again for sure. Thanks to all of the devs for listening to our feedback and most importantly fixing problems on the fly!
Thanks Trident for letting us know the numbers will still be there in the battery icon. I'm quite excited, as I've been following Velocity for quite some time. You guys really make the Ally the best phone I've ever handled. You devs are the best.

I was reading an article about it earlier, saying that it was patched in 2.3.4, so I am assuming that this implies that it is client-side, not server-side. Additionally, I read that Google is annoyed that phone companies and phone manufacturers are taking so long to patch software, that they are going to start working to expedite manufacturer patching procedures (thank god for that)
The Vel1.2 preview looks great. Has there been any development to make terminal emulator functional as a normal application (with shortcuts on the desktop) because it's inclusion in the toolkit kinda neutered the app outside of the toolkit, IMO.
I love the script's options for changing anims, themes and other options. Really great for making someone's phone, their own. Keep up the great work, devs.

issues with velocity
hi, i am a newbie to custom roms, and it even took me over 3 months to figure out how to root my ally, but then after a lucky try got it on the first attempt. any way... i installed velocity (before had 2.2.2 on my ally). followed all the instructions (backing up and installing rom manager, etc). on first boot after installation got stuck on the velocity (vertical) screen, freaked out but finally got it to work after reflashing. now i seem to be running into these issues: music stops playing while listening, or the volume is all jacked and keeps going all the way down (to combat this i have installed a smart volume free which lets me lock the media volume at the desired level), also i get fc with many apps i have installed, im not sure if its cuz i changed my default install location to sdcard, but even have tried changing it back to auto and reinstalled the app and still having the problem with fc. also battery seems to be draining even faster than before i installed velocity... not sure if its cuz i am oc at 729MHz interactive gov. other than these issues i have to say BRAVO! LOVE VELOCITY! props to the devs!
I'm pleased to share with everyone that Velocity V1.1 has been downloaded approximately 1466 times since release. This is not including downloads via the script's OTA system. Impressive, eh?

That is pretty awesome and should feel very gratifying.
Has anyone had the phone status stay "charging" after unplugging. My ally does this 8 of 10 times and it takes a restart to clear it.
Also if I use the flashlight app, the LED indicator keeps flashing red/blue/green until I restart.
Any ideas?
I have cleared and reflashed 3 times. Only thing I haven't done is completely format the SD card.

I've had that problem with the charging status, I never found a fix, but it doesn't bother me too much, and with the flashlight app you must open the app, and hit the back button for it to turn off. hope this helps!

After creating the Nandroid, check the SD Card/Nandroid/mem=223M folder to note the file name of the new backup (if you have multiple Nandroids).
Then go back into the Recovery 'wipe' menus and wipe the cache and Dalvik cache. After that, use the Flash Zip menu to locate the Velocity zip file you placed on the SD card, and flash it again. That should get it reinstalled.
Then you can restore your apps with Titanium Backup, if you backed them up.
ok so I didn't die to today and all set to do this. But when I boot into recovery all I get is a blue screen and I have to pull the battery out to get it back. something is wrong I imagine. Help!
Ok another bug. Right now I am typing by my on screen keyboard because the slider isn't working.
This has happened a few times and is only fixed with a restart.
When this happens my home button also has no function. It has happened on 2 different installs.
Just a heads up.

If you can't get to recovery, you may need someone to help you use ADB and flash a copy of recovery. I don't have the knowledge to do that. If you would like faster help, check the Ally IRC forum to see if someone will help in real time. (There is a thread for Ally IRC if you are not familiar with it).

Are you running overclocked? If so, have you tried setting it back to stock 600 MHZ to see if things improve?
Thought I would mention a very minor cosmetic issue in 1.1. When using non-stock fonts, if the phone is turned on from standby in landscape mode (i.e. keyboard slider out) the date/time stays in its portrait position and the time is chopped off at the top of the screen.
The position of the stock font is the same, of course, but it manages to squeeze in just under the top of the screen.
Again...totally minor, but since my phone is mounted landscape/keyboard out when I am driving it is something I notice often.

I saw a similar issue while playing with the home screen icon layout in ADW, but not with the fonts being changed within Velocity Scripts. I am using a changed font and it works OK (forget the name, but I think it ended in "AA".)

Hey start off by downloading ROM Manager, give it root access and scroll to the very bottom of the page, there should be an option to "Flash Alternate Recovery" Flash the Amon-RA recovery, I would recommend flashing it three times because (in my experience) the first two flashes don't always "stick". Then try to boot into recovery (hold down the end button and choose the "Recovery" option). Scroll through the menu using the up and down arrow keys, pressing enter to access a menu, and the down volume button to return to the previous menu. Scroll to Backup/Restore and make a full nandroid backup.

Well late last nite I finally got around to reflashing Velocity 1.1 but it didn't go as smooth as I had hoped. My recovery kept booting to a blue screen after I solved that problem and reflashed I was stuck on the Velocity screen. But searching the forums helped me out and after a few hours I was back in business. Just finishing up the last of restoring apps and trying to get my phone back to where it was. And message attachment now works. Thanks Zoandroid and all the posters who's information I used to rescue me.
I've had this issue too, are you using the charger that came from Verizon, car charger or a microusb charger from a different non smart phone? Whenever I'm not using my Verizon smart phone chargers that can sometimes happen.
Just plug in the phone again wait a second and unplug it and that should clear the issue up.

You're welcome. I'm glad you got it working again.
Does it specifically spell out an error message? If so what does it say? I can't recall what happens the first time wifi is turned on if you have not put in the right settings yet.

If the Ally wifi never comes on no matter where you are, and if it has not ever worked since installing Velocity, it sounds like an internal problem. Have you tried going back to stock ROM at stock clock speeds to see if it works that way?

I hate to suggest this but it may be a hardware issue. If it is, only replacing the phone would work. If you have not had the phone long, while you have it back to stock you might want to talk to Big Red and see if they will warranty-replace it for you.
Did the wifi work OK when the phone was new? When did it stop working?

There is a file in the system files which holds the assignments for the QWERTY keyboard and the buttons on the face of the Ally. There is a discussion on another thread, in which I took part, which details how to re-define keys, such as the home key placed on the QWERTY slide out board, which many users find to be very inconvenient, as it is too easy to bump when typing. Anyway, I am wondering if that file may have become corrupt on your Ally? When you flash a ROM, such as Vel 1.0 and 1.1, that file gets over-written back to "stock" again. I think I would re-flash the ROM to see if that made the keyboard fully operational again.
Here is the other thread if you would like to read what I discovered about manipulating that file:
im afraid my phone is bricked. it was working today till on the way home from a movie it started freaking out (i.e. the camera was turning out, it was taking pictures, phantom touch screen presses, screen would turn on and off randomly, etc.) i eventually managed to restart it normally, but when i did it turned on in safe mode and the slideout keyboard doesnt work. i thought i would just reboot into recovery and either install the backup or reinstall velocity entirely. however, heres the catch: the slideout keyboard doesnt work in recovery either, so i cannot install anything at all through that. and as the keyboard doesnt work when it is booted up anyway, the terminal is useless as well. is there anything i can do to save my phone? i tried doing the hard reset through privacy settings, but that didnt do anything either and the slideout keyboard still does not work. i cannot get safe mode to go away either.
i have been running velocity 1.1 since may 3rd i believe without any issues at all and have been using velocity as a whole since 0.2. i am at my wits end as to do with the exception of getting a new phone
edit: to clarify, b and left arrow work on the keyboard. nothing else does

Did it get wet? Good drop maybe? Ive killed a friends phone by taking it for a swim and it was actin crazy like that before dying. If you have fastboot you can try flashing velocity from the 2.2 root guide. That would allow you to do a wipe and reflash from the pc. I think you can restore and such from within recovery via adb, i only say this because ive gotta an error trying to restore telling to run nandroid-restore.sh or something like that. Vauge i know but thats all i got. If you dont have fastboot but the phone still turns on try LGNPST. Itll take it back to stock V6 and if neither LGNPST or fastboot work then its probably hardware
