Did you flash the 1.2.1 update along with the 1.2 ROM? The update fixes Gmail as well as some calendar issues. The only thing I have seen regarding Google accounts is that the Ally has repeatedly asked me for access permission. Probably twice more since the first time I gave permission. But aside from that Gmail is fine for me. Haven't used Google Docs.

Thinkfree Office VIEWER is free on the Android Market. But the full Thinkfree Office app is $10. However, if you have a Titanium Backup from before you flashed Velocity 1.2, you may have the files needed to restore it. I found it under the rather cryptic name:
"com.tf.thinkdroid.lge-20110321-211025.tar.gz"
So I was able to restore it from Titanium Backup Root.

Hello all. I am getting the same issue here. I did notice when I flashed them both at the same time I was getting the calendar issue. I redownloaded the patch and flashed and the calendar is working. However gmail fails to update with the error mentioned. Google Reader did the same thing but I uninstall/reinstalled it and it works.

To get Docs to update, this is what I did...
Used Titanium Backup to uninstall Docs,
rebooted,
installed docs from the market.
With Gmail, I was able to just uninstall and then get it from the market.
And you won't lose any of your Docs or Emails, since both are cloud based apps.

The gmail app that comes with 1.2.1 is probably signed with a testkey. But whatever it's signed with, it isn't google's signature, so you won't be able to update to the current market version.
I don't know why you'd want to though. The bright white is bad on the eyes and isn't nearly as asthetically pleasing as the black version.

Worse case scenario, how would we go about loading up the stock app that is updated or having the present gmail application installed updated? No rush, just worse case scenario.

I removed the gmail app using titanium backup, rebooted, and installed stock gmail app from market. The reboot is important, it errored out when I tried to install without a reboot.
I know the dark theme is nice for some, but I find the white background of stock easier to read. Just personal preference.

+1 on the white backgrounds. I don't like documents or websites, for that matter, using black or dark colored backgrounds either. However I usually don't use the Gmail interface. I prefer K9 Mail.

Okay, so, I am having another small problem. I had this in Velocity 1.1, so it might just be a Velocity bug. Sometimes, when I dial a # in the dialer and then touch the green button to dial, it will keep say "dialing", the call will connect just fine, but when I go to hang up, it still says dialing and I'm not able to hang it up. The screen will just turn green (like when the call will actually say connected). I have to reboot it to get it to stop. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Very Very minor bug I am having that is new to me in 1.2.1:
If I try to move an app to SD card it will fail the first time, but if I try to do it a second time it works fine. Didn't happen on every app I installed but did on most. Not a big deal and might just be my individual phone but wanted to report it.
I haven't played with the ROM a lot but so far I do like it better than Velocity 1.1. Great job and if this is it for Velocity then it is a fitting swan song.

Hi, I was having the same problem too. The reason for this problem is because you already have the same app in the .android_secure folder. It's kind of like when you try to save a word document and the name is already there. Each time I upgrade to a new ROM, I delete what's ever in my .Android_secure folder. I think if you were to do that, you'd be fine. I hope this helps.

This has always been the case for me as well, when using the Settings/ Apps/ Manage Apps to move an app to the SD. Thanks for explaining what is happening. So what is the purpose of the .android_secure folder? I see lots of files in there with the names of apps, and then an .asec file extension on each one.
Interestingly, using Titanium Backup's batch process to move those same apps under the same conditions doesn't have any problems doing it, but it is slower than a herd of turtles. At least it doesn't nag you for acknowledgement for each app moved, like it would for each app restored. Is there any way to tell it "yes, restore them ALL" one time? That would be handy.
I hope this wasn't already covered and I missed it in this thread, but my calculator has no subtraction button now. I know that seems petty, but mostly its just an observation. I'm sure I can find the apk somewhere, so its not the end of the world.

Calculator has a - button on mine, and seems to work OK. But I have seen a similar anomoly. For example, when creating a new calendar event, and you want to set the time or date. Tapping on the time or date bar in that situation typically would open an interface in which the current numbers are displayed, with a + button above the numeral and a - button below it. Where the - buttons should be, only a tiny sliver of the top of a - button (so not showing the actual " - " character, is visible. Tapping the sliver of that button does work, but it's hard to exactly press on it without also tapping the numeral itself. This is evident also in the aftermarket calendar I use named PimlicalA,
It appears to be an issue of improper scaling. Like the characters and buttons combined exceed the vertical size of their 'window'.
OK I am getting there
flashed stock mms replaced gmail with stock (I I thought we were just a but too dark)
where can I get the stock android froyo kbd (like the one in velocity 1,1) gingerbread has small letters (hard to see) and the android one is now dark. I can't find it in the velocity 1.1 zip)
changing the buttons int eh framework dosest actually change the kbd. how come.
I just needed to change some files in the velocity 1.2 framework
while I am there I may make a few other changes. (3 color honeycomb battery meter from UOT. ginger blue status icons in the new blue (they are a little less Glowey)
if so. how can I update the framework. people are saying that using a uot zip (messes up the sliders) it doesn't if you take the original sliders and move them to the frame work. ( i used the larger white padlock with the velocity 2 sliders.

Sorry, the uot zip works fine. I don't know what happened to me, just a freak occurance i guess. I redid the zip with the velocity 1.2 framework and it works fine.
My old one still doesn't though :/
My battery usage seems to be increased since I installed 1.2 (I was stock before). I thought it was because I increased the CPU speed to 768 but I changed it to 480 and it still seems to be using a lot of battery.
Anyone else having an issue?
Google Voice.
Yesterday I missed a call and only this morning did I get an notice that I had a Google voice message.
Calender Alerts
I had an appointment last night at 7:05 and at 7:20 I got the reminder about the appointment (it was my son's baseball game so I was there).
Last update fixed calendar. Am I missing some settings, or is this a different calendar than in 1.1? I cant get it to show the actual Google Calendar events in monthly view like 1.1

I have Vel 1.2 running on my retired Ally, and it is very cool! I'm having an issue enabling data via wifi, I can't log in to my google acct or any other data like I could before? Used to work fine? Maybe I'm missing something here? I can't really get "into" it without data connection!
If anyone can help me, I'd be stoked!

Here's how I got the calendar notification to work. First, let me say that I didn't apply the Velocity 1.2 update/fix because I don't like the dark Gmail app. Also, I use an app called Business Calendar which was a free app of the day from Amazon. I was having a problem getting alerts for calendar events until I downloaded the 3 files and entered the code in terminal emulator that death2all110 list from this thread:

Can't turn off email notifications
I have a mildly annoying problem with Velocity 1.2.1
I am unable to get the Ally not to play a sound notifying when I get new email.
I prefer to keep the Ally running all night (on the charger) in case I get an emergency call from a family member. So I don't want to turn it off, or use Airplane Mode at night. But since emails come in at all hours of the day and night, I get notification tones with them also in the middle of the night.
I use Gmail and K9 Mail for my email. So this makes for 2 places I 'should' be able to turn of email notifications. I set K9 to use a "Silent" notification. I can't even find a place in the GMail settings for notification tones. But the notifications play anyway. So I set K9 so the ringtone to use for notifications is a tone that is very quiet ( a wav file I transferred from my PC). They ignore that setting and then play the ringtone I use for calendar reminders instead! Naturally that one is plenty loud, so I can hear them when the Ally is in my pocket during the day.
In Velocity 1.1, I was successful by setting K9's email notification not to play and then rebooting the Ally. Even that doesn't seem to be working this time. Has anyone else experienced this, or better still, found a solution?
(Update - I was just going through K9's settings for the umpteenth time, and found it set, under Notifications, to "Use default". ?? I did NOT set that. Somehow it got changed by itself. So I have re-set the notification to Silent again, and rebooted. So far it is staying that way. )

So tonight I noticed a few apps 'auto-updated' on their own. SuperUser was one, I think Voice Search was another, and GMail keeps trying to update (and fails), tho I'm not seeing an option to disable it's auto-update "feature". Anyone else see these apps updating?
I'm having many problems now with this ROM, I love it, but I don't know what's going on. I've been noticing it a lot the past two days: when I go to send a message, it doesn't send, and it keeps saying sending. Also, when I'm in the dialer, it will keep saying "dialing" even when the call is connected. Why is that? I already relfashed the ZIP file. I'm still having the same issues though. What can I do? When I asked that right after the release of 1.2.1, Savoxis said there will be in a future update, but not now. The only way is either to restore a Nandroid backup of the newly flashed ROM (which I had failed to make) or re-flash (which I ended up having to do).

Well, this may be related. I have had some issues trying to send mail from K9 mail, where it keeps saying "sending" just like you mentioned. One of them never did send, and I had to delete it and send it from my PC. This had happened right after an "unclean shutdown" spontaneous reboot when I clocked up to 748 MHz. I used to be able to run at that, but now the Ally seems unstable higher than 729 MHz (which was happening even before Velocity 1.2). FWIW, I have installed 1.2.1 twice, because I wanted the original theme back. I did not have any problems flashing the ROM either time, and for the most part everything seems to run OK (except for the email notification issue above).
Hi, first off, I love the new ROM, kudos to the developers. I just installed it like an hour ago, I love it so far. I only have one problem: the Gmail and Google Docs are not updating. Make sure to do the same wipe when applying the patch as you did before flashing 1.2. Also, if you are overclocking you might want to reduce the clock speed a bit and see if that helps.
Wiped dalvik cache and flashed 1.2.1 patch, cal issues fixed. I am now a happy camper.
However Email, Docs, and Youtube still not updating in the market. It actually shows them as not installed, but when I click on their respective links in the market it shows "update" on their respective page. Not a big deal, I can live w/o updating these apps. They work just fine as-is. It just seems odd that they won't update.

Okay, so you're saying to wipe everything, flash the Velocity 1.2.1 ROM, don't reboot, then wipe everything again then flash the patch? I hope you see this before the end of the night so I know what to do. Thanks in advance!

What he said.
If you had started using the Ally and working with apps and files before flashing the patch, then I would re-wipe the stuff. But the second time around for me I did exactly as above, figuring if I do the patch right away no need to wipe anything. It worked fine.

I'd like to help you guys out, so I have made a Titanium Backup (PRO) of the Velocity Toolkit, setting preferences to 'no compression'. I have found the backup file in the TIBU folder on my Ally. Being a system app, I don't know if it even 'can' be reinstalled from this file, but perhaps someone else can tell us.
Is it permitted that I post a copy here, or is that not allowed? I don't want to break any rules in doing so, or make the devs angry. Someone of authority please let me know.

Thanks. I did a little digging last night, and the toolkit is actually still installed. It seems to be an issue with the shortcut in the Settings menu. Strangely, a reboot made it come back.
It might be worth noting that the two times I had this problem I also had an issue where the ROM didnt seem to know I unplugged it from AC power. The icon showed it was charging and the LED stayed solid green, despite About-->Phone showing that the USB was disconnected.
A reboot fixed both problems, and I have yet to be able to duplicate them.

I've seen both those issues with version 1.1 of the ROM, as well as a refusal to enter Airplane Mode. In the latter, the Airplane Mode 'button' becomes grayed out after pressing it, but the Ally radio stays on, at least according to the notification bar icon. In all 3 cases, a reboot would fix the problem (until next time). But I have yet to see them in version 1.2.1 (knock knock).

Hand your phone to strangers?
I remembered seeing mention of checking back to message #2 in this thread for mods, so I just went there and saw Ripple Lock. Looks cool. So I read about it on the Market. Here is the first part of the description under Permissions:
"
This application has access to the following:
Services that cost you money
directly call phone numbers
Allows the application to call phone numbers without your intervention. Malicious applications may cause unexpected calls on your phone bill. Note that this does not allow the application to call emergency numbers.
"
Seriously!? Call numbers without my intervention? Why would anyone ever agree to such a thing!? WTF!? I can't believe someone even made such an app, much less that apparently thousands of people have installed it. Be cautious folks!
