success, i now have this rom! looks fantastic. i sorta HAD to flash it, i mean i could have just restored a backup, but it was acting REALLY messed up, i couldnt do anything! it took me like 10 min just to turn on usb storage. ugh, also, since i had superuser before will i need superuser before.

UGH! you took out myfiles.apk! but didnt put in a file exploer! now i cant get titan backup from my sd card!
also, your market app does not load. it tell me there is an error and will now close.

stuck...swing and miss. i guess i will load a backup

also, incoming calls give me a fatal exception with google phone and closes the connection before any thing pops up to accept the call.

OK sounds like you may not have wiped everything before flashing. be sure to wipe data, cache,dalvik-cache and system before flashing. anything from previous install left over would cause errors. also the market/play store crash is probably due to same issues if that is what happened in your case. I have been heavily depending on feedback as I've progressed with this, none of those issues were reported by drac. retry the ROM but wipe and format everything first. hopefully this will resolve errors.

turn off verification and try it. if you still get this error, probably a bad download.

your final DL size should be 70.7 mb. or thereabouts.

Would you be able to adb install an APK?

Might be possible to do it from a command line (adb shell) too.

yea i did the full wipe, and the dalvic wipe....no worries, i just used the browser to find a file explorer. restored all google play required applications from titan backup, then it all works ok.
it was just really hard to get started because of the lack of a file explorer. and of the amount of bad/incorrect/malicious android file explorers there is on google.
also, i dont know what was wrong with the incoming calls, but i did 3 things, reset the phone, restored google play, restored the android id. and now they come in fine.
i know not the greatest trouble shooting, but i havent had any other problems since.
oh! one more thing
on the lock screen, everything is cramped and overlapping. i can post a screen if you like. just thought you should know. i think phone explorer has a function that would allow me to post a ss of the locked screen.
this wont be a problem once i restore widget locker, but hey, im loveing the blue! other random themeing.
thanks again for the upgrade to plus...you know what im talking about.

final thing for tonight then im off to bed, the system automatically activated the phone, as soon as it boot up it came up with the 3g icon and data and a voicemail....good work!

ill check in tomorrow early before work. thanks for all your help guys

oh, i c what happened. the overlap happened after u changed the font in the latest release. the new font looks way better than that tiny one u were using before tho!

hmm..odd the font would do that. may have to revert to fix it. or upload an alternative ROM for those who do not want the over lap.

I already know a fix that will resolve readability without the overlap. I used robot font..obviously it doesn't work well with this phone. I'll revert to stock font so issues are resolved.

I think varen had some residual data left over from previous install is why that install was wacky. even performing proper wipe/format can still leave crap behind on occasion. so I'm not thinking there's any issues to really worry about in that regard unless the issues become chronic with other users experiencing them.

could be. I think some remnants were left behind and caused things to get wonky. I will add a good file manager and change font.

ok for all intense purposes i consider this rom final. im going to post the final download here and in original post. with everything narrowed down to only a font replacement and readding a file manager. i consider this done. ive added root explorer as file manager and restored my sony sketch font (didnt revert to stock font because i thought it to would oversize with this theme, you can experiment on your own with various font types to suit your need, just backup current before so you can revert if need be).

edit: will add a new link for rom download.

awesome man. thanks a bunch! sorry if this is a basic question, but how do i go about playing with my system fonts like that? do u need to compile a rom to do it, or is there a way to alter that stuff without having to flash?

jrummy has a font changing app on play store. just search for font changer and it will show up. has a ton and you can experiment by changing them out to see what works best for you. if I recall it has option to backup current so you can revert. good app and easiest solution besides direct copying of fonts to system/ font.

Simple questions. Can I just delete the crap and then add googleplus, googlevoice, and my other can't live without apps like the walgreens app into the system folder? If i can do that I will be good to go. Scared to brick my phone I can't afford it and this is my first root so I need to know.

I am connected to the computer right now and moved the ROM and flash image and other file to the sd card but when i look in ROM manager it doesn't show. Where do i move it to on the SD card?

do be honest, if your careful, its quite hard to brick your phone ++ we have a stock rom you can revert to if needed. but yes, first thing first get cwm, and keep a copy of the stock rom on your sd card. you can find it in the sticky.
when you install a rom from cwm, there is an option to update from zip, choose you own zip, then choose the one you dl'ed

correct me if im wrong but this is how i think its done

THIS IS IMPORTANT, not saying rom manager is not realiable, but its doesnt work well for this phone, and can leave behind crumbs.

figure id say it again. cwm dude.

[Recovery]{CWM} Virgin Mobile Venture 6.0.1.2 <read this, and ask in there if you have problems. but read it all. im pretty sure 90% of problems that can happen have, and have been resolved

yup, most important step here is to flash cwm recovery and do a backup immediately after rooting! dont try flashing any roms until u have that backup made! also, if u want to bring ur apps to the new rom, look into an app called titanium backup... very useful. so, after u have rooted, flashed cwm recovery, and done ur stock backup, download the rom of ur choice (i suggest curtis's ICE themed rom, link is at the beginning of this thread) and save it to the root of ur sd card. turn ur phone off, boot into cwm recovery (keep home button held down while u turn on ur phone, dont release home until u are in recovery). go to "mounts and storage". format /boot, format /cache, format /data, format /system. press the back button to return to main menu. go to "advanced". wipe dalvik cache. hit back button to return to main menu. select "install zip from sd card". there is an option to find the zip on your sd card. select the rom that you put on your sd card's root earlier. wait for the install to finish, go back to main menu, and select the option to reboot. ta-da! u should have a beautiful new rom installed! enjoy!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. wow. I have opened up a whole new can of techie geekie worms. this is too easy, I will be up all night til i get this just right just like when i opened the phone then got mad about google books and the lack of space to add all my apps. CAN i upload a zip from my computer i believe it is called side loading. I have to get used to this new language?

Where can i find what each appelet in busybox does or how i can use it. do i need to install those to continue my own custom rom?

and what are the shortcuts to navigate through the menu when the boot screne comes up i got the home/power button, enter is obvious, but up/down? I am sure there is a glossary somewhere

check out the sdk program. thats gonna b ur basis for communication between ur phone and ur computer. commonly useful tools in sdk are adb, fastboot, and ddmb. do ur research, and always make sure to do a cwm backup before u try anything, especially if u arent familiar with what ur doing. i had to learn that the hard way. ;-) as for busybox, im gonna let someone else take that one, as im not super familiar with a lot of its use. ur navigation buttons in recovery are gonna b volume up/down to scroll, back button to go backwards in menus, and enter to select. have fun, and feel free to ask questions!

just a huge note, when you flash this rom you must change your default ringtones to something other then silent. THAT is what was giving me the force close when i was getting incoming calls!

So what are you doing for contacts you don't want to hear from, without being able to use the silent ringtone?

I'll check to see if there might be something wrong regarding the silent issue. but I never made edits in that regard.

im currently working on my first themed rom. im testing and working out every little bug i can find before i release a beta for public testing. so, in the next few days, keep ur eyes peeled for a new thread in the venture's all things root forum! i could use a few other testers to give it a go and give me some feedback before i release it as a final, so let me know if ur willing to beta test! thanks guys!

Default Download link broken?

Is this ROM still available for download? The link in original posting appears to be broken.

Thanks!

Default Link2sd?

First, thanks to Curtis1973 for the ROM, and thanks to Dracable for pointing me to it. I have my new Venture rooted and this ROM installed (went smooth as silk!), but when trying to install Link2SD, I am getting the "Unable to create mount script" / "Invalid argument" error. I have googled this quite a bit, and most things just say "Use FAT32", "reformat the card" ,etc. I've done this, but still same result. I have a 8GB card, and have 2 partitions (both FAT32) -- 2nd partition (for Link2SD) is 512MB.

Is there anything about the Venture that might be giving Link2SD issues?

Thanks again!

That's how the Link2SD docs say to do it, and that's the way I've always done it in the past (on 4-5 different devices).

I don't think link2sd can use a FAT32 partition. Use EXT3 (or EXT2 or EXT4 I guess). I use EXT3.

I think I've always used FAT32 in the past, but I tried EXT3 to see if that would make a difference. Same result ("Invalid argument"). Oh well, not a huge deal since I'm only using this (at the moment) as an MP3 player. Not a big need to install a bunch of apps (yet).

Thanks to everyone for suggestions!

I've tried both ways (#1/Primary-#2/Not -or- #1/Primary-#2/Primary). Still won't work. I emailed the Link2SD dev, but never got a response. Oh well...

Thanks!

both primary, and when you load link2sd for the first time it will askk you what kind of formatting it has(if you have already miss chosen, clear data, force close, restart) you MUST choose the type you formatted it to, i find it easier to formet the two into two different formats, main(for songs and data) - fat32 / / and the 2nd partition(link2sd) - ext3. then when you open link to sd as stated above it will ask you what kind it is. pick ext3. and it will write it scripts, then REBOOT you phone, then you WILL be good to go.

WORKING!

Thanks much, varenHjames! I think the key was the "clear data" step. My last attempt *was* actually FAT32/EXT3 (both primary), but it still threw that invalid argument error when trying to create scripts. When I did Clear Data and a reboot, worked like a charm. Thanks again! (And sorry for the delayed response -- I haven't even been back to these forums since back before holidays.)

I didnt realize the rom link had went dead. Ive been gone for a long time. I will grab a copy from links available and rehost it on a more stable host. And since I am at it,any thing extra you guys would like me to edit or change? I know there is a very nice update to adw ex i can add..and that should speed this rom up even more. I can think of a few other things I can do..may even add another seperate rom that is themed totally in the mixer jelly bean cm10 styling. Ill check back later to see what you think.
