Default [jelly bean] not sure how to work Google now

so ive ran Jelly Bean for a full day now, been playing ALOT with Google now, and im at a loss at how this all works. Like how it knows where i work, what route i take, i've also heard people saying that when going to restaraunts it pops up their menu or at movies it shows the show times? I've also heard that when people leave for work, it updates them on the weather for today.

idk, but anyway, ive noticed ive not recieved any notifications of that sort and what not. How does it learn where i work? I work at a restaraunt, what would make it think i work there and not just to eat? is there a setting to set my work location? my Home location?

I've looked into the settings and found nothing that could help me. This feature intrigues me very much but baffles my mind how to work it XD Im sure I'll get the answer "run it a few days and let it learn" but i want to figure this out and see if there's anything ive missed before Official Jelly Bean gets pushed out

Try using the Google search bar, or voice search. Or if you don't have a PIN or pattern lock you can swipe up to unlock and it takes you there.

This is a common problem. One thing you need to do is enable your Web History. Open your google browser in your phone and click on the "history" link at the bottom, and make sure its enabled.

Then go into google now, and toggle Google Now off and back on. then do a search, and see if the card pops up. It took me a few times, but I finally got a team of mine to pop up, and shortly after that, it gave me traffic status to my house. (P.S. I think Google tracks your location, and associates that with the time of day, to try to guess where you live and where you work. It may get it backwards if you work nights, that would confirm my theory on how they do it.)

Anyone having problems using Google Now entirely? Every time I go to use it, it says Google Search unexpectedly stopped working .

i can see the benefit of Google Now if you live in a big city or something, it is a great concept, but it needs more work. I believe with jelly bean it will be worked on better to prevent more problems.

I had the same question, so I looked at the XDA forums and found my answer there. Essentially the easiest way is to open up Google Latitude and when it finds where you are you tap the icon you have set for yourself.

It should pop up with a screen showing your name and 3 options, Check in, Location History and Location Settings. You'll want to click Location History. On that screen click the 3 little dots to bring up settings. That menu will have Change home location and Change work location. Essentially you'll need to have Latitude enabled for it to work (from what I can tell, and read about). I just did this, so I dont know that its learned my location or times yet.

Hope this helps!

Anti, are you referring to the stock browser or Chrome? I've tried Chrome and for the life of me, I can't find this setting.

I have no idea why I'm setting up Now. I live in a very small town and likely won't get anything more than weather anyway

Stock browser. Now is actually really cool. Whether in po-dunkville or not. Will ya need it ehh? probably a negative. Will you enjoy playing with it and watching the different cards come up after its gets used to your likes/searches/nav/sports etc...? I think so

Probably. As time goes by, we'll see if it does anything...

BTW JBDan, just curious as to what part of ATL you're in. I was born & raised there. Know it well

Awesome didn't know that! I'm a native (very rare as the ATL is so transient) and was raised in Sandy Springs, but have lived in Dunwoody, Buckhead, and presently Smyrna. About to move to Mableton, getting further and further away from the big city!
