Is there an MD5 hash for JBS 5.4 and White Magic Gapps files?

Wifi on 5.4 quit again today. Wipe & restore 5.4 Nandroid didn't bring it back this time. Wiped & restored 5.2 Nandroid & Wifi came back. If it stays, 5.2 will be my rom until S4 or next version of Os.

Haven't had any WiFi problems on 5.4 yet, but have had System UI crashing fairly often. System UI also takes a long time to start on boot. Been stuck without any means of navigating a few times already.

@wtherrell, what gapps are you using with 5.2?

I can connect to other wifi networks both open and with the same security keys that my router has. Comcast tier 1 couldn't fix it but tried to send me to a pay service to get it connected but I refuse to pay for that.

So I just don't know what to do because I can connect to wifi networks on 5.4 but not my own.

The non-inverted ones that were recommended with 5.2 originally. Been back on 5.2 several days now with none of the problems that I had on 5.4.

Is there any way to force the SystemUI to restart? Maybe a command for the terminal emulator (never used the terminal before really though)? Still having issues with SystemUI randomly crashing and either taking a VERY long time to start after a boot or it not starting at all on 5.4.

Is anyone else having trouble with Google Play after clean flashing 5.4? I get errors every time I try to install or update anything!

I suppose I could dirty flash the ROM & Black Majik Gapps again, just to see if that hung up or something... not likely but I'm running out of tricks here.

EDIT: Dirty Flash didn't help. Nothing installs or updates from Play.

"(app name here)" could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]

I am bummed. I have been using sourcery for about as long as I've had my Nexus.

With the last two versions I have had system ui crashes and it renders my phone nearly useless. I have not had navigation buttons going on nearly 4 hours now. If I want it if an app I have to restart, and still no nav buttons.

I clean installed, used super wipe, didn't use tibu.

I have used ROM toolbox because it has a system ui restart option, but that doesn't help. It's maddening.

Anyone have any advice. I'd really hate to leave sour very, but I have to have a phone that works.

i had those on 5.3 but when 5.4 dropped I wiped everything like 4x individually. flashed rom and kernel reboot, market restore, reboot, set up phone settings, reboot, flash mods, reboot, turned out good for me.

Having no issues with Play updates on my install, but I'm using the White Magic Gapps (still having issues with SystemUI though, so I'll probably have to reflash anyway).

Got it! Figured it out. Simply had to remove the Google account that Play was synced to, and then recreate the account. Bam! Downloads and updates. That was my main issue... 5.4 is great now, thanks!

Gonna try a new kernel fit the system ui issues. Don't think it's going to help, bit I am willing to try anything.

Yeah, I had a few errors on mine when I first flashed to 5.4, but I chalked it up to that I was bouncing between service areas and stuff, and I assumed that it was just data interruption that caused it. Wish I had come across your post earlier, since that's what I ended up doing when it happened to me, I could've mentioned it lol. Glad you got it sorted!

5.4 is really a sweet build. Strangely having the Google now search crash like in 5.2. Anybody else?

I've been having exactly the same problem with 5.4 and also had it with 5.3. I keep going back to 5.2. I've tried many kernels, wiping & reflashing several times, but the system ui doesn't start at boot most times. Every once in a while it loads and I can't figure out why. I'm out of ideas.

I appreciate the continued support for JBSourcery, folks! Here's something that has persisted from 5.3 to the Encore:

Panorama camera mode. Didn't read anything in the known issues about it, but my panorama mode is borked. I hold my camera horizontally, but the image on the screen is a stretched-out vertical image. If this can be duplicated (I trust it can, it's been on my phone across 2 JBSourcery ROMs), I would really be grateful for any effort or advice to correct it. I don't use it often: but when I need it, it's nice to have it there.

Thanks

Default Hallelujah! (Keeping Fingers Crossed)

Well, maybe I finally have a fairly stable 5.4 Encore that keeps working on WiFi and also does not crash System UI. Doing a clean flash of 5.4 did not work for me at all even though I tried several times.
I went back and did a complete wipe (TWRP) and restored my nandroid of 5.2. Problems went away. WiFi OK and no UI crashes where nav buttons and notifications were lost.
I then dirty flashed 5.4 Encore and White gapps on top of 5.2 letting google restore the apps. I then disabled the 180 screen rotation and auto rotate functions in the settings menu and rebooted.
4 days in and So far, so good. No UI crashes and wifi punches thru to the web. I really like 5.4 and want to keep it but know I can go back to 5.2 if needed. My upgrade is due in August but now my GNex is so good I may wait for a NExus 5! (Hope I didn't jinx it by saying that. )

I tried all of this and still had the problem with the system ui not loading. I finally ended up restoring 5.2's system ui on a dirty flash of 5.4 and the black gapps. Used Titanium to restore the older system ui. That seems to be working ok. The ui starts on every boot now. So far everything else appears to be working ok.

Just flashed the new JBS back onto my device, love it, anyhow, my gmail isn't up to date so I am assuming I just need to manually install that apk.

yeah, what does that mean? I was afraid I was going to have to move on, as I haven't been able to get rid of the system ui crashes that render my phone inoperable. The quickest way I have found to bring it back, is go into recovery and flash something like a kernel. But I have to do this sometimes a couple of times a day.

I hope it's a new version, or an update or something.

Yeah, any update that takes care of the system ui problem would be awesome. That's the only problem I have with 5.4.

Anyone try this? Is this a ROM that wasn't built by eagle? For whatever reason IRC isn't letting me log in, so haven't been able to check there.

Currently rockin' Sourceress and it seems like a great ROM! Panorama mode is still borked, but I can live without it (for awhile) until a fix comes in.

Another classic, Eagle and crew (or whoever did it)!

EDIT: Uh, does anyone know what this "Crystal Ball" is and what it does? I'm trying to figure it out...

This is a smooth build. Chief I played with the Crystal Ball and it adds a floating notification on your screen.

PS... don't know why CWM vs TWRP would make a difference, but I have used CWM for the last two installs and have had no system ui crashes. FYI, may be worth a try if anyone is still having this problem. Make sure after installing CWM, that you immediately make a backup.

Yeah, I'm figuring out this Crystal Ball thing and it IS pretty clever

However, I have noticed that it is a persistent little booger! For example: I use the Bedside app as my nightstand clock at night. After a few minutes it blacks out into screensaver mode, only to display if I touch the screen or move the phone. But sitting in that nice black screen all night is the Crystal Ball! That's gonna be trouble (i.e. screen burn) if it doesn't follow the screen blanking.

Just a thought...

I don't know what is up, but my phone has just not liked these last 3 ROM's. I didn't even get through loading my apps from play store before it did a systemui crash, and then it kept crashing every free seconds.

I factory reset 3 times, wiped cache, dalvik cache and system 3 times, and used super wipe 5 times prior to loading.

I don't know if it's a rogue app that is doing, and not sure if there is a way to tell. Found it interesting that I didn't even get my apps loaded before it started.

Lol. I could have written your post word for word. I'm still having exactly the same problem. I did manage to get 5.4 working with an older SystemUI.apk, but I found a few problems with that. I finally just gave up and restored my 5.1.9.1 backup. That's the latest version that doesn't give the UI problems. It's frustrating, I want to play around with some of the stuff in 5.5 I'm starting to suspect one of my apps too, just have no idea what one. I never had a problem until 5.3

I'm on another rom (heck, I'm on another phone!) but without throwing rocks at any devs, I'd check what 3rd party browsers you may be using. For example, Boat Browser was causing a lot of issues for me. Took a while to find that.

If you get time to run this rom without extra apps installed, you'll know that your suspicion is correct, an incompatible app somewhere.

Best luck, just 2 cents, hope it helps.

Oh, I hope it wasn't coming off as I was throwing rocks. That is about as far from the truth as can be. I have been super happy with this ROM. So much so, that I just keep living with the systemui crashes, that cripple my phone, because I don't want to leave.

You weren't, I just didn't want to sound like I was at any app devs.

Sorry for that.

Thanks, The only 3rd party browser that I have installed is Dolphin, but I have a ton of other apps that could be causing the problem.

I probably need to start with a new install and stop the play store from restoring. Then just install one app at a time and see what happens. Just need to find time to do it.

5.5 now for 3 days and not a single UI crash. This thing just WORKS for me. My only issue is the panorama mode. And if that's the only thing I can find wrong in a ROM of this magnitude, it's an awesome ROM

Well 5.5 had its first UI crash for me today. I was really hoping Sourceress had it fixed. Guess not. Could be an app conflict but if so why doesn't it happen in 5.2? Not related to screen rotation as it is locked. Just randomly quits.

had a weird one myself. Went out sailing last night, phone battery died during the night. However, afterwards, it simply would not boot past the animation (I have the boot ani disabled so it's just the Android text. I let it sit there for almost 15 minutes. Figured that maybe I just hadn't let it charge up far enough. Let it charge fully, battery pull, nothing. Booted into recovery, wiped Cache, it updated apps, but then on stuck on "starting apps" or whatever, never booted. I ended up backing to my 5.4 Encore version from June 21st, and it loaded fine. Was the first time I had let the battery die completely on Sourceress, so I don't know if it was a coincidence, or what, but,....was strange.

Clean installed the latest version and my phone and contacts would not show up anywhere. I guess it's time to move on after many months loving this ROM. Best wishes to the developers and many thanks for their efforts.

Yeah I did. I think the problem happened when I tried to change the layout/colors of the dialer.

Correct. The only things that disappeared were the phone and people icons. Drag & drop them from the app drawer to the homescreen and all will be well

First of all, thanks to the developers of this ROM and all of the hard work put forth. It's the best!

I'm still running 5.2 which is the best ROM I've ever used. It's absolutely perfect. But like always, I want the absolute best performance and battery combination I can achieve so now I'm focusing on kernels. I've used several kernels with it (for several days at a time), and I always come back to the stock Sourcerizer kernel. FWIW, my favorite kernel besides the stock was the Fancy kernel. My battery has never lasted longer and the performance was great. That came after some tweaks to the settings. But for some reason, my Bluetooth streaming to my car suffered. I switched back and forth several times and it was always a problem.

I'd like to know what settings people are using on the stock Sourcerizer kernel and what those tweaks accomplished (better battery usage, performance, both). BTW, my goal is mainly better battery with the kernel. Performance is already great.
