Default Root Note 3?? Confused!!!

Hello all. Very confused. Also very new to the Android world. And loving it!! Anyway, I am on Verizon and have a Galaxy Note 3. I saw on XDA that there is a leaked stock kit kat update. So I want to do it. Only problem I'm having is understanding the steps. I downloaded Kingo to root my phone but I also want to back it up with Titanium or Safe Strap? I'm not sure how I do this. Do I root the phone and automatically get safe strap or is there other steps to follow??? I'm watching so many videos and reading so many posts that I'm all messed up. Any straight forward easy directions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Root the phone. Install Safestrap just like any other app. When you restart the phone watch the screen. The left "button" will get you to Safestrap (which is a modification of TWRP). There's a Backup button. Press it and go do something for a while (it takes around 5-10 minutes to do a backup IIRC - I haven't done one in weeks.) The right button will continue on to booting the current ROM and will save you a wait of about 10 seconds. Safestrap boots into the current ROM by default (if you don't press either button).

Make sure you understand the difference between installing and restoring. You install a zip file of a ROM, you restore one that you backed up. So you can have 5 (the stock plus 4 slots) ROMs in the phone at a time (on the SD card), but you can have zips or backups of other ROMs on your SD card and switch the ones in Safestrap. *(You'll probably find one or two that you'll settle on, and keep the stock one in the stock slot, and a backup on your computer just in case. (I flashed a keyboard zip by mistake, Normally that means a half hour or so of scary work to try to get the phone working again because there's no ROM, not even the stock one, left in the phone. With Safestrap? I booted into Safestrap, restored one of the ROMs I had backed up and was back in business. That's why I won't update to 4.4, Safestrap isn't only a great custom recovery, it's insurance if you do something stupid (which is what I did - a keyboard isn't a ROM, but I flashed it as if it was).

If you want to try a 4.4 ROM you have to use Safestrap 3,72, NOT 3.71 (which is for 4.3 ROMs).

If you accept the 4.4 official update, though, you're dead - no more root. So the first thing you do when you get root is turn off wifi and mobile data (you should already have installed Link2SD) , run Link2SD and freeze the update app. (On the AT&T version it's called something like AT&T Update <something> [it's not on the ROM I'm currently running] so on yours it's probably Update or Verizon Update blah blah.)

As far as I'm concerned, 4.4 isn't much of an improvement, and I'd rather have root and Safestrap. But you can run the unofficial 4.4 ROMs that Safestrap 3.72 can install if you want to see if 4.4.2 is worth losing root for.
