Default Towelroot Method (4.4.2)

Hey guys I just wanted to update the VZW 4.4.2 Note 3 users about this Root Method.

It comes from a trusted Dev on XDA meaning that this root method does indeed work.

I wanted to mention to members that this method has a chance at tripping the Knox counter on your device. Geohot, the dev behind it, says that he cannot promise that it won't.

Here is the link to the XDA thread talking about Towelroot

However

This root method will void your warranty of your device and trip the Knox counter, but if you want root that bad it will work.

I used it today and my KNOX is not tripped.

Yeah good, good. I have been reading up on it and there is a chance that it will trip. (Not 100%)

I just wanted to make users aware!

This should work on the VZW Note 3.

Are you on 4.3 trying to get to 4.4.2 or already on 4.4.2?

First off welcome to the forums

I would suggest to download Odin v3.09 and flash the stock firmware back onto your device.

Just make sure you download the right one depending on your android version.

You need to be in download mode to do this, you can get there by turning off the device completely then holding volume up + home button + power button.

If you need anymore help just let me know.

I would definitely suggest to have someone help you who has a PC with Windows on it, as it is your best and easiest method to unroot your device.

Feel free to come back to us if you need any help.

I would say try to manually unroot but I know that wont be a good side to that . the note needs a windows as digital just said . nothing half way will do the job .

I tried this method earlier today and I did have success with it. I followed the instructions via :

How to Root AT&T/Verizon Galaxy Note 3 on Android 4.4.2! | GalaxyNote3Root.com

I was successful.

I started having problems when i started trying to toy with ROMS. It was suggested that I install Safestrap once i was rooted.

How to Install Custom ROM using Safestrap on Galaxy Note 3! | GalaxyNote3Root.com

I couldn't get this to happen i started to panic and did a hard reset. I wanna give it a try again but don't feel confident about it!!! This is my first true attempt. The site above has been the most simple one i have found that makes it somewhat easy for a newbie such as myself.

Any Reasons why i was having trouble with the ROM/safestrap part of it?

Did you follow the installation of safestrap to the end . I know ss aka safestrap needs to be installed a special way and you need to make a backup and put into the correct slots . ROM slot one is for cm ROMs after its set up .

I'm not sure if I did or not.

Right now I'm still rooted.

The only thing I have download is SuperUser. Apk

Do you have a link. So I might be able to properly do it?

Here is where I am.

I did this time successfully install SS.

At first try after installation I hit reboot to recovery. Phone totally flipped. Powered down. I had to remove battery to get phone to turn back on. Which it downloaded SS again on its own and I again installed. But haven't taken it further.....a bit spooked to after the previous power down.

LOL I'm so probably gonna jack me phone. I'm a noob. But yah gotta start somewhere right?

I hate to keep being a Thorn over this.

I removed the 3.71
Went back to link. This is where I am ....

Clicked DL 3.75 and takes me to XDAs Devs. Site

Arriving at the site I am offered to pick from 3 types of DLs. Which is the right one ?

Thanks

I"m back again with more questions.

I have downloaded hltevzw_jellybeans_b1.zip

I reboot in recovery.

Boot Options/ >>> Stock ROM on right and on the left 4 options ROM slots 1-4

Toying around with ROM Slots one and two. I created "ROM" i suppose prior to having DL Jelly Bean. I have tried to delete these to creations by :

selecting ROM slot 1>>Menu>wipe>>slide bar for factory reset>>Menu>>select ROM slot 1

it does not appear to have changed

I have did the same process then rebooted phone and came back to the same thing.

Am I doing this correct? If not , what is the proper procedure?

Yes its correct and it did change to ROM slot one. What you can do is rename slot one to something you call . next make a backup and set to stock ROM slot.

I have already backed up my stock ROM.

Ummm this process for installing

Boot>> rom-1>> menu>> install>> *find jellybeans*>> install>> reboot system

This should start me into the newly created rom right?

If so , it's not doing it. It's powering down and not powering back without removal of battery

custom ROMs (at least Hyperdrive 8) wouldn't boot in any slots except the stock. it's also confirmed you must use stock in the XDA thread, even with Safestrap 3.75. trying to put it into a slot makes the phone boot to a black screen of death. have to pull battery, re-enter recovery and then try stock and it willl work fine. not sure why that is.

I have downloaded the safestrap.apk noted above, but it will not open. I can get to the open button, but then it says Safestrap has stopped.

I'm using a Verizon Note 3, and have root and supersu installed.

What am I now doing wrong??

If I understand your question, when I ran supersu, I picked normal. Other than that, I do not know, sorry. How can I tell?

When I boot in recovery, the screen goes to the android on his back with the red triangle, with black !.

It says Android system recovery at the top and has blue options beneath.

Does this help? I'm really lost here.

I have done something wrong I know, but I have done this before on other phones with no problems like this. Each is different I know. Thanks for your opinion and I will keep working on it.

I have to do this so I can get the correct terms and problems you are having something is going on and we can't see . so if you know more about rooting you can say things for example : my supersu app wont update. Or mg CLOCKWORKMOD recovery wont update. And to help us out when one say flash the supersu app zip in twrp or cwm you would no exactly what we are speaking about . don't feel ashamed cause we all had to learn someway . funny is that I will brick it and unbrick to learn when, how or what to do to fix it. ... For example you say the android is laying on its side with a red x . you can help us point out how this happened
