just want some feedback from anyone that has went from the eris to a droid. which do you like better? why did u make the change?
im only considering going to the droid because of the longevity issue, its going to outlast in terms of hardware than the eris. plus verizon seems to be much more dedicated to the droid itself which will make it worthy of a two-year contract with all the other android phones coming out..
need some help deciding here.. appreciate any feedback.thx

All of this is my opinions and are in comparison with the Eris. I have had both, and currently am using the Droid. I'd never go back to the Eris. I use the browser a lot, and text a lot. This phone, for me, is better in both areas, as well as all I listed before.

Again IMHO the ONLY real reason not to get the Droid over Eris is form factor....you don't like the look, you don't like the feel, you don't like carrying it. Otherwise the decision is quite simply Droid
Anyhow, maybe you should wait a year for a better phone. Or maybe 10 years. I mean, you wouldn't to miss out on the new technology, right?
My point is, pick a phone that you like and be happy. If you're constantly concerned with being on top of the tech curve then you better be rich or you'll always be behind.
For me, the Eris is perfect in any way. I have no issues with it all at this point.
FYI: I'd like someone to explain to me how "the processor is faster" when the Moto has Android 2.0 and the Eris has 1.5. Do you mean to say that when the Eris is updated it will be then be faster considering the Moto's slower processor speed? Because that's what I would expect to see..

Um, unless of course you like the user interface of the Eris. Oh and if you're going to get apps to mirror Sense UI it means the Droid already failed in that area.

Oh, and the part where Motorola is crap. I have a good friend who works for Verizon ... he said they have more Motorola's returned than any other phone brand. They have great ideas and can never folow through. My buddy said they have had Droids come back at double the percentage than Eris's.
But in the end, everyone have their own likes and dislikes ... I can respect that

I wonder if that's because the droid outsold the eris 2 to 1? I'm not throwing out facts, just wondering if maybe there were twice as many droids sold than eris. I don't see where the droid has bad build quality, which is what I interpret "motorola is crap". The Eris is extremely well built, but the Droid feels pretty damn solid to me. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, just looking for more input/facts.

Having had quite a few Moto phones over the years, I know from personal experience that, IN GENERAL (yes, I'm capitalizing so that isn't missed), Moto has had suspect build quality in the past. I have not and will not be using a Droid or ANY Moto phone so I have no idea if it is a better phone than what I've experienced in the past. Who knows, it might very well be but, like most things, after having bad experiences I wouldn't bother with Moto again, at least until they've proven themselves to my satisfaction.
eris didn't handle multitasking as well as i would have liked and it just seems like the droid is where its at right now being the 'high-end' android phone from verizon. motorola has a lot going on in terms of android and i think a lot of big things are on the way. to add to the 800k droids sold, another 100k were sold for xmas. i returned my eris because of the slowdowns and the hardware (or maybe its just sense that was causing the problems).. i dont know but i wasn't happy. i just simply think the droid has more going for it, and after playing with my uncles over the past few days i couldnt put the thing down.
and i also found the build quality to be very solid. in terms of weight and such that people complain about, it feels the same as my blackberry so i have no problem with that. i loved the eris, for a little while, until i recognized the slowdowns and such (and a lil jealousy of what friends were doing on the droid). oh well, ill be getting one within a week if that stupid opus is all thats coming in the near future.

What BB did you have? Even the Eris is heavier than my Curve and the Droid is significantly so. The BB feels like a toy compared to both of them.

Well their past seems to still be haunting them as the Droid has had issues with the back panel. Hasn't Verizon resorted to a bandaid on the panel?

I have had the Eris since Black Friday and I continplated returning it. I decided to keep it because I am hoping that it will receive an Android update in January or maybe another phone will be introduced at the CES on January 5. Even if none of those happen, i will most likely stick with the Eris is a phone that is well put together. What I feel the Moto Droid has over the Eris, aside from the full qwerty keyboard, is the fact that it is running a new Android system. Also, you can format it to your liking as far as installing the Nexus One 2.1 system. If I switch, it would be for the opportunity to learn how to breakdown the Android OS and remove and replace files.

I currently have the eris, but yesterday (day 29 of 30 day guarantee) I called and started the exchange process for a droid (should be getting it early next week). Its not that the Eris is a bad phone. Its quite nice actually, but after getting a chance to really check out a co-worker's droid, I felt that it better suited me. I came from the mytouch 3G and really like the simplicity of standard Android UI over the Sense UI. Don't get me wrong, the Sense UI is nice but there really isn't much more to it that I use that the plain Android platform already has. Plus the Droid screen is just awesome! I'm also one of those people that really likes having the option of a physical keyboard, and to me the Droid's isn't all that bad. I don't have a big problem with Motorola. I had some motorolas way back that were kinda lame (T730 for example). But I have an E815 and 2 V3Ms that still work great and always had great signal and call quality.
I will mirror other users' comments though, you have to try them both out and see which better suits you.

(and no doubt, people are selecting as many as they can get)
rather stupid to have 3 doors, but people are saying they're gonna send them to friends and family lol. i dont think verizon intended this?
