Ive been eligible for an upgrade since august, and I just cant pull the trigger on anything. I have the DINC, that does everything I need, minus last all day on a battery. I was thinking rezound, but its not that big of an upgrade (plus no root yet). Dont want the nexus, too big and reception issues... So my question is, whats the next big thing coming to verizon, and when? Or should I just get the rezound and enjoy the 4g goodness?

There's been nothing in the rumor mill, AFAIK. Truthfully, the GNex/Rezound would be your best option if you are looking to upgrade right this minute. As with all tech, it is fairly outdated within 6 months, so if you waited this long to upgrade, why not wait a little longer for the next gen products?

I'm in the same boat...I've been wondering what to buy for a while but the Rezound, Razr, and GNex all have their issues and aren't that compelling to me (especially at +$250 each). I honestly love my Droid X so I want something that is really going to impress me. Unfortunately, the "best" phones right now aren't that great in my opinion. I've even tried the second-tier phones in hopes of finding something better. I bought a used Bionic and sold it after 1 week. I did the same thing with the Samsung Charge. I've played extensively with my wife's Dinc2, but it's meh. And I've spent way too much time in the Verizon store trying to convince myself to buy the GNex, but I just can't pull the trigger. I think if/when the Rezound gets ICS, it would be the best phone to have. And you can scoop it up for $150 at Amazon. But by the time it gets ICS (late Q1/early Q2), there should be newer phones designed specifically for ICS with better hardware. Unfortunately, none of this answers your question about what's next for VZW. And I don't have an answer for that besides that it seems pretty scarce right now.

RAZR Maxx and Droid 4 are rumored to be due out soon. RAZR Maxx is rumored to have a larger battery than the RAZR so it will be thicker. Droid 4 will be a keyboard slider like all the other Droid (1,2,3) phones but with 4G & dual core.
Hopefully quad cores will be here the end of Q1. I'm personally waiting on more info about the Samsung Galaxy 3. But it's still too early for any solid info.
CES 2012 is in 2 weeks and MWC is in 2 months so hopefully more info on new phones will be hitting the news then.

Meh, I wouldn't spend a penny on anything made by Motorola. At least until they change their bootloader policy. Now that the Google/Motorola Mobility merger has been agreed upon, I'm a bit curious to see what changes take place. Either way, I still wouldn't buy anything from them until the changes are in place.

Bump...it's been over 1 month and it seems like nothing new is on the docket. Does anyone have any thoughts? When is Google/Motorola bringing out their first device under the combined company?
Mobile World Congress is at the end of this month, then after that, some SGS3 news is supposed to hit.
Sure to be an interesting year, but no telling on dates from what little I've read so far. That's typical for beginning of year, though, as I recall.
Great info Early!
@OP: If you owned and modded a Nexus...you would feel different about it! No device, not even the Galaxy S III will lend itself to the infinite flexibility contained within the Nexus. I could go on but it starts simply with pure compatibility with the AOSP.
I wonder what the first hTC handset will be on Verizon released already running ICS/Sense 4.0? Has anyone heard anything?
I saw the leaked video of sense 4.0 in action (hTC Ville) & have to honestly say I was not too impressed. It didn't look to slick and polished & seemed to have a lot of unnecessary animations. hTC did say that they going to try to go back to the "Hero" days with sense. Not like that anyway, IMHO ... I don't think that the Ville will hit Verizon either, I think it is gsm... It is a nice looking phone though!
Maybe MWC will reveal something...

If I was to upgrade today, it would be a RAZR-MAXX..... but..... I'm not.
Not much was announced at the recent CES in Las Vegas, so the next big annoucements will come at Mobile World Congress later this month. It is more phone oriented than CES anyway, so I'm hoping for some cool superphones to be shown.
I bought my "X" on launch day so my 20 month upgrade becomes available in March. I'm hoping that some of the phones announced at MWC will be with the 2nd generation LTE radios, which are rumored to be much less power hungry than the current LTE radios. But then, whatever is shown at MWC, don't look for them to be released until 2nd or 3rd quarter at the earliest. That being said, even though I have an uprade coming up next month I'll most likely be waiting 'til the 2nd or probably the 3rd quarter to upgrade at the soonest.
Patiently/impatiently waiting for the release of my next phone.

I'm in similar boat. Came due for update in November on OG Droid. If I absolutely had to replace my Droid today, Razr, Rezound & Nexus are all pretty good choices.
My biggest disappointment is that these phones are all good but not great. That's what's making hold off on pulling the trigger (and I'm itching really badly to pull that trigger).
So as much as I want to replace my OG Droid, I'm going to wait a little bit longer for ICS to be stock on more phones.
What I did to fight the urge is to set my requirements down on paper: a) ICS, b) HD 4.3" min, c) dual or quad core, d) 32GB on board, e) 8MP+ camera with solid sensors, f) 2MP+ front camera.

Good action plan, 121GW...
I was at VZW this weekend and thought it was all the same, with barely much improvements from last summer. I need to get rid of my wife's OG Droid (she hates it), so maybe we'll upgrade hers and I'll get something new later this year. I have a DInc, so I'm not pushing to drop the phone in my drawer yet.
I'm waiting on the Droid 4. I know how most feel about their bootloader policy, but since high-end QWERTY LTE phones are few and far between, and said policy has never ENTIRELY squelched the dev community from rooting phones, I feel like I'd be very happy with it. Honestly, the solid Moto hardware is what attracts me, and I can always bury blur under some LP goodness until root is achieved, and I flash a stock GB or ICS ROM.

The edge is rumored to be hTC's first quad core phone.
The specs on this one look like this:
Early details include Android 4.0.1 with HTC’s Sense 4.0 UI, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, and front-facing VGA camera.

Unless it has a 2nd generation LTE radio that actually works - I won't consider another HTC phone. I'm pretty sure that they're concerned about MY opinion!! LOL

I really want my next phone (I have an "X" now) to have the 2nd generation LTE radio in it. They're rumored to be much less battery hungry. Dual core/quad core, either will work for me. I'm really hoping that some cool phones are announced at Mobile World Congress later this month. Of course any phone showcased at MWC most likely won't be released until 2nd or 3rd quarter of this year so I'll have to be patient.
Patiently/impatiently waiting for my next phone to be announced.
An unnamed motorola phone pictured above might be the first to have ICS and use Intels Medfield platform.
Was first mentioned at the pocketnow.com website. It is expected to be shown at Mobile World Congress later this month.
No mention at this time which carrier might get it but Verizon could possibly be the one. I would expect a 2nd quarter release at the very soonest.
I have been waiting for something like this to surface out of the google/motorola deal.
A motorola Phone running ICS with the on screen buttons/no capacitive keys with light Ui customization.
This phone actually doesn't look half bad...
Now, I just need to take a look at the specs...

Yeah, me too. I'm hoping that Motorola as a few phones to announce at MWC. This phone is missing the camera "hump" which I am now used to, but that wouldn't stop me from trying it out.

Isn't LG threatening to have a phone more powerful than the Spectrum? I've loved each of their feature phones that I had. Maybe it's going to be a WP7 device. I'm still interested.

I used to feel the same way about the onscreen buttons of ICS. I've been running the EncounterICS ROM on my DX for a while now with the onscreen button mod and I gotta say I've changed my mind. Granted, the buttons are modified and the space they take up is only slightly more than the status bar so the space is smaller than what the picture shows. The "recent apps" button alone makes multitasking an absolute breeze.
What is the next "hot" phone that everyone is waiting for for use on verizon?
It is almost upgrade time, and I want to know which phone to wait for.
Thanks
Well, I have just officially read that none of the
devices at MWC will hit VZW...shame. MWC is
mainly for gsm boys...
Have to wait for CTIA...
Looks like all we have to look forward to is the
Dinc3/fireball, lg cayman and Droid fighter,
whatever that's gonna be, hitting VZW...
Shame, none of the HTC one series will hit VZW...
I got an upgrade coming 7/28/12...
Droid fighter might actually be the Dinc3/fireball...maybe...
It was on hTC's code name list... Fighter that is...

You know what they say about great minds...
I would be cool if VZW would drop a hTC One S variant.
This variant is rumored to be the Fighter/Dinc3.
Dual core 1.5 GHz S4 processor with LTE chip built in.
I hope it is truly a variant with user replaceable battery and Sd card...
The Dinc2 first surfaced as the Incredible S at the last MWC and we got the variant of that sooooo, we'll see... ;D...C'mon CTIA in NOLA...

Yup, it looks like the CTIA show in New Orleans will the next place that the manufacturers smartphones will be showcased. It's May 7th thru the 10th. A long way off for me, I have a NE2 (my last, I'm guessing) available on March 15th.
Luckily my "X" is still doing a "bang-up" job for me. (he said with his fingers crossed)
Hopefully there will be some new smartphones announced or at least rumored before CTIA. There was nothing from Motorola at MWC, so I'm hoping that Google/Motorola Mobility have something coming down the pipe that will absolutely blow us away. Hopefully anyway.
My DH and I are both up for upgrades within the next week. Unusually (because I'm typically the must-have-tech-geek in the family) he's asking me when the quad core phone are being released at VZW!! I promised him I'd check but it doesn't sound like there's any info on when that is, correct? To make things crazier (as in, I really want a quad core LTE phone NOW), even though our city isn't anywhere on the LTE list, I was told by a mobile phone sales person at Costco who had VZW herself that she started getting 4G in the area in the last couple of weeks and that they are testing for a release in a few more weeks.
Slightly on and off topic, am I correct that if I have an unlimited data plan that VZW will grandfather that in on an LTE phone? I'm keeping fingers crossed for that!
My wife and I are coming over from Sprint and need to do so by this weekend in order to keep our numbers. I'm looking at the GNex and RAZR (not MAXX) on Amazon and Wirefly. The RAZR was just reduced to $35 on a two year contract. I really want the GNex and ICS, but it's priced at $99. We don't want to spend alot on phones since we're already taking a jump in the monthly bill. My wife just want a 4G phone and to be off of Sprint. I'm either going to get the GNex and her a Bionic (free this weekend), or two RAZRs... What should I do?

well it seems the price would even out which ever way you choose, so its all about the features you want. i dont know much about either phone (though people really seem to like the GNex). my dad has the bionic and he says its ok (came from the OG Droid). compare the features each one has and go from there. If you really want ICS, then GNex seems to be the way to go.

Of All of Verizons current offerings, I'd take a Gnex or Rezound. Both have developer support with great roms. Much better than stock. Increased battery life etc. Between the Razr and Bionic, get the Razr. Better phone.
You get stock ICS on GNex, and you can install really good working ICS Roms on the Rezound. The RAZR is at the mercy of Motorola, probably without ICS till this summer at the earliest. There is NO development for the RAZR.
The rezound has a better 4G Radio than the GNEX. I have no experience with the motorola radio.
I don't think We will see a quad core phone probably till late summer.

It beginning to look like the Motorola Droid Fighter may be the next big phone from Verizon.
It may be a RAZR MAXX with a 4.6" HD touchscreen and no physical buttons. Also most likely will be released with ICS 4.0. Rumor is that it could launch some time in April.

Yeah, I hadn't heard about the Fighter till I read this article this AM. Looks like it and the Inc 4G (DINC3, I guess) both may hit Verizon next month. I might not be able to wait on the SG3 if the Fighter shows up!

Verizon has historically considered unlimited data as just that. 3G or 4G makes no difference. So going from a 3G phone to a 4G phone you retain your unlimited data. It may change in the future, but I'm hoping not, as I still have a Droid X.
