First of all I searched and didn't see a thread about this.
This is mostly for those who have unlimited data, but how much do you use per month? Just curious. Feel free to post screenshots of your My Verizon so we can see.
I use about 5-10GB per month, depending on if I'm travelling a lot or not.
I probably use between 50-100MB per month on 3G. I spend most of my time on wifi.
Wifi sucks compared to 4G LTE speeds, I usually get about 30+mbps and on wifi I get maybe 6mbps. Also having Wifi turned on without turning off your data will drain the battery quicker.

Wifi is much more energy efficient than is cellular. I get much better battery life when I am on wifi than when I am not. In fact, I had some Exchange syncing issues while on my office wifi, so I had to turn it off while there. During that time, my battery would be at ~40% when I left the office. I have since resolved that issue, and leave wifi on all day. Today when leaving the office, my battery was at ~75%. Huge difference.
And my co-worker who has a Rezound saw the same battery issues when he turned off his wifi (he had the identical Exchange issues).
And as for speed, I have 30Mbs internet speed at home, and 15Mbs at work, so speed is not an issue.

Better than 30Mbs? No need. Especially since the 802.11G card in my laptop can't even keep up with what I have now. Until I replace my laptop with one that has N, faster internet would be completely wasted. Even then, I can't think of anything that would require faster than what I have.
I don't have the unlimited plan, having my phone going on two months now, but I haven't cracked the 1gb of data usage. I'm currently around 400+mb for the current month. I have the 4gb plan and use wifi while at home.
It seems my battery will drain before using too much data.
You can still use WiFi. Since it's a University, shouldn't they have an insane connection?
not when there's about 4,000 people connected 24/7 during the days its worse, about 10,000 people are on it. I get better connection when I am wired into the network, but not that great.
Jeez, I'm seeing people use 5GB on a given month, I barely use 1GB. This consists of reading news and blog apps, Facebook, and some browser use. I hardly ever use my 3G for Pandora, or video, which I know are the largest data gobblers.

Currently on day 28 of 31 on the hot Verizon 4G LTE network:
phone 1: 5.099 GB of 12 GB plan (this is 1GB higher than normal)
phone 2: 1.064 GB of 4 GB plan
phone 3: 1.428 GB of 4 GB plan
(Previously I used 0.3GB average per month on an AT&T 3G pda/smartphone. They were so slow that i can't or didn't wanna look at anything ha ha)
bye.
Device(s): The Droid Bionic......
OG Droid - rooted,
Nexus 7

A lot of the variations happen based on the apps used. When I use netflix for myself or the kids during the month I can burn through data like a sailor on shore leave can go through rum.
Other months I use much less.

I've seen on XDA where some people have used like 100GB per month, they are probably the people that made Verizon go to the tiered data plans.
Sadly, I think it's those people who ruined it for the rest of us. Unlimited doesn't mean you go ahead and abuse it!
I barely go over 3 GBs a month with streaming radio and occasionally some NetFlix but I have Unlimited Data so I really don't worry about it. I went over 3 GBs one month but stayed under 4 GBs.
I try not to be a data hog and I save most heavy downloads to be done on Wifi at home where I have my big fat TWC Wideband 50 Mbps connection.

I would say that using LTE to Torrent (which in of itself is highly illegal, at least the major of the files being downloaded via Torrents are illegal) and using your LTE as a permanent home Internet connection is classified as abusing Unlimited data.
There's a reason why there's something called a Home Internet Connection such as DSL or Cable.

Now, if you somehow use 10 GBs of data legitimately on your phone, as in you don't use unauthorized tethering techniques, then that's not something I'd classify as abusing your Unlimited data plan. Even using 20 GBs of data legitimately wouldn't be classified as abusing your Unlimited data. But, the emphasis is on legitimate use of that data, as in no unauthorized tethering.
Those who use unauthorized tethering techniques are the ones abusing their Unlimited data. Those are the people who ruined it for the rest of us.
I'll hold onto my Unlimited data as long as I can.

I actually agree, I have only used 3.1GB in the first two weeks of this month. And I only tethered for about 30 minutes which was just a bit of surfing so nothing to big.
Normally, not even 1GB. But, I just took a road trip to Colorado to go snowboarding(24hr drive), and my GPS, Pandora, and Barnacle Tether were on 90% of the driving time. I used 2.2GB in 5 days. . . I have unlimited data.
I usually use more than 2GB. Last month was 4.2Gb, but I have never reached a 5Gb month. And I don't believe I have ever been throttled. I'm also on a 4g phone, the Razr, but live and work in a 3g area.
Might be a little off topic, but I'm currently on 3G with a Droid X. Planning on upgrading within 2 weeks to 4G. Will my unlimited data plan carry over?
We actually have unlimited data plans. So it's not specific to 3g, or 4g, or wifi, or any other network type. So yeah, you'll still have unlimited data when upgrading your phone. Just be sure that you don't change anything in your plan while upgrading. And be sure you communicate that you want to keep your unlimited data plan to whoever helps you at the verizon store (or wherever you go to get your new phone).
This month is as high as I have gone so far. I unexpectedly wound up in the hospital for a week, and there was no wi-fi there, so I ended up watching quite a bit of streaming video. Then a couple of days ago my home DSL was down for 24 hours and I switched my computer to tether off my phone (Yeah, I know. I ruined the Internet for everyone else, blah, blah, blah.) Actually being able to have a tethered connection available when the land line goes down is exactly why I rooted this phone. I might rarely need it, but I want it to be there when I do.
Oh, yeah - the Total: 4.161 GB of Unlimited used on day 26 of 31.
Wifi might not even exist for me on this Dinc2.
I don't have my own computer or internet at home.
Wifi at work is locked down secured with wep. I don't have any valid reason to ask for the password.
Really I don't get wifi I can connect to anywhere.
If I did I would certainly use it for battery saving aspects...

I used to use ~3gb a month, all 3g, downloading apps, playing games on phone, streaming music/video. lately since I moved and switched jobs I've been using 1.5gb a month. In a few months when I have 4g and netflix streaming capability I think I can reach 8gb easy w/o tethering. If I ever lose unlimited data, I may cry.
Girlfriend uses 150mbs - smallest plan

I never said you need 4G. I tend to have buffering issues over 3G, even screwing up the file sometimes (causing skipping). It doesn't seem like 3G around here can really keep up very well with music streaming, unless its in low quality, and even then I have had issues. Its about the same way with Amazon MP3. I have had the same issues with 3G on both my Eris and Nexus (and the data speeds are nearly identical), so it seems to be network related.

Interesting, I don't think I've ever had an issue with GM via 3G.

Probably because where your at, 3G is actually competent. 500 kbps here is considered pretty good, with 200 kbps about average. And even then the speeds aren't really consistent. They kinda go up and down at random.
Ok i guess im a data hog. But im a computer tech and i use hotspot for repairs and updates. well. here is a shot of my monthy data usage.
I havent seen anyone come close.

171 GB's of data in one month and you only GUESS you're a data hog.
If you're using your residential wireless connection for business, I'm guessing you should get a business account.
