Default Next rumored "Superphone"?

Hey all - I have an S3 - but - am already getting antsy - IF I do it - it's going to have to be off-contract (first time ever), so - I need it to be the "right" phone. Not thrilled about the DBA (questions about battery life, and no expandable storage), or the SG Note 2 - a better bigger S3.

I'm guessing I'm looking for something from Moto (or maybe even LG - they seem to be getting better reviews).

I know - that there's always going to be something better coming out tomorrow - but, I haven't seen any rumors of
"what's next.

Anyone?

Well I haven't seen anything after the Note 2 personally... Although I just picked up the Droid DNA yesterday, and I must say, the battery life is fantastic. I am at 10h4m and still have 58% left, with light-moderate use. Also it supports OTG cables out of the box, that is a way to deal with the low onboard storage.

The only phone that "should be" announced at CES or MWC is the Samsung Galaxy S4. Like AntimonyER stated, any rumors about new phones is scarce.

Congrats on your new phone! Need to go check out that section to see your experiences with it. I am still waiting to compare the HTC Droid DNA and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, whenever that is released.

Well the Samsung Galaxy Note II is on its own in terms of phone size and utility. I mean you've got an intuitive stylus which is home to its device. I feel that you won't be bummed with the Note II but that's just me.

Also I predict more 1080p phones after the DNA just like how the One X came out the SGSIII came along after it rivaling it. But here the Note II is still by itself and the difference is that Samsung was first to innovate its kind.

I like the size of my GNex. What's the next, non-phablet, smartphone coming to Verizon?
I like the optimus g. The S3 seems good, especially with the unlocked bootloader. I'm up for upgrade in March, and I don't have unlimited data, so that won't be a problem for me.

The next phone is the Droid DNA, which is currently available i believe.

Otherwise the Galaxy S4 will probably be released around Q1 or Q2 of next year.

I pray to the Gods of wireless telephone technology that Verizon doesn't try and request an encrypted bootloader.... again.

It sucks that they do that on every phone, but I fear that every phone released on Verizon from now on will be encrypted.

My contract is up in March. I desire optimus g or nexus 4. Verizon has neither and if the top spec phone on Verizon is locked down, I'm jumping ship on them.

Sidenote: how can I port my number off of Verizon? I called AT&T, they said my number couldn't be ported. I called Verizon to find out why, they said they'd look, and then their answer was I don't know why. I called T-Mobile and they said they can pull it right over. But T-Mobile's plans cost just as much as Verizon, and I'm looking for cheaper.

I'm saying in March. Let's say the galaxy s4 comes out. Verizon says, hey Samsung lock this bootloader for us again, and this time don't let some asshole release the key.

Without an unlocked bootloader you don't really OWN your phone.

On the Verizon you don't really "own"your phone. You can only use it on Verizon.

I'd try AT&T again as your number so be able to go with you no problem. Also, beware Consumer Reports just ranked AT&T dead last based on customers responses. Also, double check AT&T prices; when I looked at switching last year, AT&T was going to cost me MORE than VZW for the same services.

I'm thinking about going the prepaid route. Getting a nexus 4 or better that has dev support and an unlocked bootloader.

Edit: if Google releases a 32 GB N4

This might be a good question if I have it right. And I'm going to assume the answer is no.

If I'm on CarrierX on a post-paid program, can I port my number to CarrierX's pre-paid program?

I know with Verizon I can keep my number moving to their prepaid. But only certain phones can be used on Verizon prepaid. So I couldn't take my current phone, VZW GNex, and use it on Verizon prepaid. At least that's what I understand from talking to the rep on the phone.

As far as the phones for pre-pay go you can't use any 4G phone at all on pre-pay, only 3G. As long as the phone is not on contract and is only 3G it can be activated on pre-pay.
I had looked into this recently and was told that numerous times.

VZW specifically?

because you can get 4 or 5 Gigs for $30 on Tmob prepaid 4G (hspa+ 42), after that it's 3G. Just can't remember the exact amount of consumption right now.

That's $30 and includes unlimited txt and 100 voice minutes.

So that's why I couldn't take my current phone, galaxy nexus, to prepaid on Verizon? Because it's LTE capable?

Verizon won't let you use the galaxy nexus on prepaid. Nor the droid DNA, Galaxy s3 or note 2. You can only use what they offer when you sign up for a particular prepaid service. They'll show you all what ever phone is permitted on prepaid.

You can use any Verizon 3G phone on pre-paid, no 4G/LTE.

So could I port my number to Google Voice and use that on the prepaid Tmob plan? 100 voice minutes isn't much, but that's enough data for my voice and data needs.

Of course, now that I have my network extender, we're just going to stay with Verizon.

Since it's Motorola, I would say that this rumored "X" phone will make its way to Verizon at some point. How far we are from this idk. I've also heard rumors of a droid razr m hd as well.

grooveip for voip (xmpp) calls using your google voice phone number.

You can't port numbers to/from prepaid in most cases, but that's the beauty of GV. You can't get MMS on GV, just plain SMS. Someone is going to figure out the gaps at some point.

I would love to see the Motorola X on Verizon... but after the Nexus fiasco and Moto's penchant for locking their bootloaders, I'm on the fence about it. As long as there is a toolkit to unlock, root & ROM that puppy, count me in.

I've been setting aside money every month so that I can buy a new phone at full retail every 2 years or so... that way I won't lose my unlimited data. And while the Nexus 5 would be a worthy successor to my Galaxy Nexus, I just can't see Verizon carrying another Nexus phone

But the next superphone? With Key Lime Pie? BRING IT

Awwww just wait til VZW changes it unlimited data plan policy. But 10 bucks a month should be sufficient to pay for a full retail price phone every couple of years.

BRING IT
I wouldn't count on a tool for unlocking the bootloader, based on what Motorola has been doing with this current generation of Verizon phones. I do expect them to have a developer edition similar to what they have for the Razr M and Razr HD. Why they don't have a developer edition for the Maxx HD, I'll never know

I don't know about t-mobile or any of the other big companies but US Cellular will port your number on prepaid plans.

I kinda want the DNA, but checking the forums I don't see a ton of developer support like I do for the GNex. Granted, it is a brand new device, and I didn't get a GNex til it had already been out for six months. I just love the support that exists for the nexus devices.
I'm not due for an upgrade til March, and I might hold off on that.

One thing that I don't get is these top end devices only having 16 GB storage and no expandable memory. I'd dump Verizon and get a Nexus 4 if it had 32 GB. The Droid DNA, 16 GB.

Conspiracy theory - force people off unlimited data. Cut storage options for phones. Profit.

It's not a theory, it's the truth. It isn't coincidence that the international version of the DNA, the butterfly J, has a sd card slot and it was reported that Verizon specifically requested that HTC remove it for their variant.

I got a SGS3 while I like it I really wanted a Note. I got the SGS3 before I knew the note was coming. Also my girl has a DNA, really REALLY like that phone. Also the DNA seems to have a lot better reception then my SGS3.

Guess Ill wait to see if Moto does a 5inch 1080p phone. Id like that as long as it had capacitive buttons.

I want a phone that doesn't require a backpack to haul around.

I remember the days when I could put my phone in my pocket

Moto actually changed the boot loader on the last official droid X update preventing owners from going back to previous versions. So I'll think twice about ever getting another Moto phone.

I desire.... Nexus 4 w/LTE and 32 GB or HTC Droid DNA with 32 GB.....
What's that you say? Neither of those exist?
Well I'll just hang on to my GNex another year.
