Surprised Problems with SD card change

I have a Vibrant running cyanogen 7.1, and was using the original 2GB card that shipped with the phone. I just recieved a new 16Gb card, that when I unmounted the original card, and swapped it for the 16Gb, it never registered the swap. Even after several reboots, it would show me what look like a cached copy of what was on my old card. I decided to unmount the 16Gb then format the card in the phone. Everything is fine. However, I missed backing up some of the contents of the original card, but once again, the phone is not recognizing that it has a different card. Every reboot, mount, unmount, usb, recovery, all of them show what is now currently on the 16Gb card. Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on here?
